I think I've seen enough.

I don't think I could handle any more surprises.

Why don't you just challenge Shock to a speed-debate?

Get a thread.

Excuse #1 - After the card I just pulled karma is waiting!

Excuse #2 - I want to leave you with enough ranking points for the tournament.

That said...hhhmmmm...interesting....

I came across an interesting topic today, though I'm not sure if it's been debated before.

"The US legal drinking age should be lowered from 21 to 18"

That would be a much more balanced topic if it was "from 21 to 19".

So I'm sipping on Bacardi preparing a Syllabus for my class. Who here is up for a debate that ISN'T going to be in the tourney? Sadly I can't enter because of time constraints, perhaps next time.

Congrats ADB! An excellently fought match.

Peacejet, you win, too, in my book, because your debate re-inspired optimism in me. I'm so glad to see that a can-do attitude and clear vision of a better future are still alive in the world, undaunted by the muddy cover of cynicism this world piles on.

I'm a little sad right now, because I just went book shopping online (I've been hoarding gift certificates), and could only find a very few science-fiction books that I wanted. I used to be able to find tons and tons (literally!) of new, exciting, and horizon expanding fiction, but it seems the market has 'dried up'.
Is this because of the Internet? Do people not read anymore? Has the world given up on 'childish things' like speculative fiction devoid of the 'gritty realities' of compromised idealism? Sigh....

I want to echo this sentiment. PJ, you did a great job of bringing back a sense of hope and relevance that I honestly have not felt about deep space exploration for many many years.

So we're all agreed then.

FCP adopts peacejet and protects him from all the evils of the world.

Especially those yukky non FCP girls.

Edit: Congrats adb and great job pj!

I'm not sure whether to be glad that I wasn't here most of the afternoon/evening, or to be horrified at what y'all get up to when I'm not around and wonder if maybe it wouldn't have gotten quite as bad if I had been here to protest. Good grief.

Here's the topic I want pro on:

The US legal drinking age should be abolished.

Ask Orange what the drinking age is in Germany - there isn't one. And they have less problems with alcoholism and teen drinking/driving than we do. I had my first beer at age 4.

Hey, that might be good for a 3-way for after the tournament.
One argues for it to stay at 21, Two argues for lowering it to 18, and I'll argue for getting rid of it completely.

Might be interesting at that

It seems to me that the person arguing for abolishing the drinking age altogether would have a significant advantage in that they really would only have to make one case, whereas the other two positions have to both defend having a drinking age and prove that their proposed age is the right one.

In other words, I wouldn't take it on unless I could argue for no drinking age.

And drinking age or no, I drank from my dad's beers by age four
