en.wikipedia.org...

Cynthia Plaster Caster, nee Cynthia Albritton (born in 1947 in Chicago, Illinois) is an artist and self-described "recovering groupie" who creates plaster casts of famous persons' penises and breasts. She began her career in 1968 by casting penises of rock musicians. She later expanded her subjects to include filmmakers and other types of artists. She began casting female artists' breasts in 2000.

She has cast many well-known musicians' penises, including those of Jimi Hendrix, Clint Mansell from Pop Will Eat Itself, Brian St. Clair of Local H and Triple Fast Action fame and Jello Biafra of The Dead Kennedys.

Alright I finaly googled the artist and viewed some of his work. I found the statue of the virgin mary with the enormous hard on very interesting. Especialy the way her arms are spread and she seems to be staring at her gigantic manhood as if she were quite proud, heck I would be. Now why arent the christians wearing sackcloth and ash over this? Jesus has god like wood no way but hey mary has abigger one oh thats cool. I smell a double standard.

Well, I have heard of her. Very good question you pose. I suppose the answer would be, "The statue is disgusting and who wants to see that? It is tasteless and substanceless. Besides that, her work is not of Jesus, so we don't care as much." I think she is considered part of the porn industry so I am sure if you look long enough though, you will find some group that protests her work too.

It don't get more phallic or statuesque than this

In the middle of the forest, the horny pig

A garden of phallic symbols

Now please try not to injure yourself on your way to retard camp.

Check out this thread about an Islamic Jesus movie now in Iran. Is this not going to be considered art by Christians as well? This filmmaker wants to bridge gaps between Islam and Christianity. Is he going to hell for that?

This is pathetic.

This thread has turned into a 'laugh at Christians and try to piss them off' charade.

The only people in here championing this statue are obviously anti-religious and just want to see Christians get angry

Grow the %#*! up.

Out.

You are so far from the truth you do not even realize it! I for one, do not hate Christians or anyone for that matter. What I dislike is the fact that whenever someone questions them, they either do what you are doing and try to belittle the person, or they just plain run from the issue. I do not try to bash anyone. I just do not understand why you have difficulties explaining your reasoning. You just keep repeating the same lame answers. This thread is intended to spark intelligent debate about a subject that apparently even you get all worked up about. When you are questioned, you only belittle and use profane statements. Not very intelligent so I am glad you are "out" as you say.

I challenge you to find one anti religious statement that I've made in this thread.

Tic-toc-tic-toc

Thought so.

You need to grow the F up and realize not everything is about you, or your religion.

Yeah, because Jesus statues with a penis are highly intelligent conversational matter.

Man oh man... I'm just glad Christians and non-religious alike can see that this is petty garbage for the sake of shock-value.

I understand that it feels edgy and progressive to stand up for something that is supposed to offend people. I just don't see what drives you people to claim that a Jesus Penis is artistic or even valid.

To each his own

I'll try to break it down step by step for you... It might make it easier

Art is meant to evoke a response from the viewer.

That response can take the form of many feelings.

If it doesn't then it's not art. It's boring. I can't stand boring things.

If you don't understand that, then I suggest you enjoy your Norman Rockwell paintings and leave the rest to people who enjoy art.

Here you go again with the progressive rant again. Like I said, same old answers. Ras cannot explain our view to you any easier. Art evokes response, otherwise not art. This OBVIOUSLY is evoking response, hence, ART. We have not claimed that we love it or agree with it. We simply believe that it is art even if we do not like it. Why is your judgement of this artist, which you should not even have according to your beliefs, so apparently clouded? We explain our POV quite clearly, and yet you still cannot provide a reasonable, non-slanderous explanation.

I am also wondering why no one taking your stance has answered mine and Ras' team debate challenge on the issue. Quite interesting IMO. I believe it is still on the table if anyone is interested.

why can't you understand that art means different things to different people. you show 10 people the same painting or sculpture and they all get a different feeling from it.

personally i don't really like a jesus sculpture in full on erect mode but i would like to be able to see it if i so choose and i would like the ARTIST to bve able to sculpt it if he/she chooses....

again, what do you think about the plaster casters? this whole penis/art thing has been going on for years now...i suspect you are just bunged up cause this one is your imaginary friend.

i only hope things like this continue to get displayed. censorship is not a good thing. you don't have to like it. nobody has to like it. you also do not have to look at it....that is the beauty of it.

i would be lying though if i said i did not get a kick out of you religious folk getting all bunged up...i really do get a kick out of that far more than i do the art....
i hinestly think it is funny.

did you know there is a female artist that how should i say, 'inserts paint into herelf' and then 'splashes them on the canvas'...

it's her art.

people make statues out of hubcaps. others sculpt the human form out of ice. one guy covers things in cheese.

john lennon fell for yoko after he saw one of her pieces. it was a step ladder than you had to climb. when you got to the top you had to pull the chaim and the light popped on and you could see the word think.
that was it. her art and he felt so, 'whatever' that it struck a love affair....

just admit the problem is that it is jesus so we can all go to another thread.

Questions for everyone?

Theoretically...If the majority of people say that this statue is merely ART, how many would post a pic of in the ATS site?

Hmmm...got you thinking now.

What is the fine line between what is deemed as 'art', as to what others concider 'not art'?

According to TOC's:

1a) Offensive Content: You will not post links to images or use avatars and signatures that are offensive, abusive, distruptive and/or hateful. You will not use images, avatars or link to domains that contain gore, mutilation, pornography or illegal(2e) content.

We can argue til the cows come home, but as it stands right now, there will ALWAYS be those who concider another man's art to be trash, and vice versa.

We all have to take into concideration, that there are younger members on our boards reading these threads, and more than likely are awaiting the outcome decision of our adult discussions.

I know you ALL are passionate in your stances, however, let's try to be more civil to each other, and watch our words wisely.

Please?

Respectively,

~Ducky~

Good point, I doubt very many on this thread have actually seen the piece (
)

It's no more offensive than Michelangelo's David

or the Creation of Adam

Oh, and for those of you who believe that it was an easy piece for him to make, and that a 3rd grader could do it, you've obviously never worked with metal before.

The detail in this piece (
) is actually quite impressive. It took time, effort and a distinct talent to create it, despite you objections to it's content.
