Man doesn't get 1.6 milliion payout from casino

abcnews.go.com

For about an hour last August, Gary Hoffman was a very lucky man.

Hoffman was playing the nickel slot machines at the Sandia Resort and Casino on an Indian reservation in New Mexico when he appeared to hit the jackpot: the machine said he won nearly $1.6 million.

Also, Judge Napolitano from Fox News seems to agree with the Indian casino in this case. He says it was a software error and by law this type of slot machine is not allowed to pay out more than $2500. He says the man should sue the software devloper.

What do you think?

technical report said the slot machine's computer malfunctioned, and incorrectly made it appear as if Hoffman won more than the machine is able to pay out. The slot machine has a disclaimer that says it pays a maximum of $2,500 and warns that malfunctions void all winnings, said Paul Bardacke, Sandia's lawyer.

That says it all. The Casino did offer him 2500, the max payout, even when technically they didnt need to pay him

Sure does suck though...

\This is breaking news? A malfunctioning slot machine? Here is where we're supposed to start an elaborate discussion about the decay of society from gambling. Never get addicted to scratch-off tickets, you'll break out even should you be lucky. Can't believe horse racing is still legal, dog racing in some states/countries. Casios are being introduced to a lot more US states -- it does show the nwo slant -- more addictions.... at least this dude got his 2k.

He's being silly. He sat down at a machine that the top payout was $2500.00 that's it. Nothing more period.

The most he should get is the $2,500.00

He's lucky to get anything.
Typically a malfunction voids any and all payouts.

If it had been a networked progressive machine, some of which even take pennies, the jackpot could have been in a multi-million dollar range.
But this was a max payout machine. the dollar amounts are listed right on the box.
Wishful thinking on his part.

What should we all learn from this?

Stay away from the slots, stick to poker.

Seriously though, this person should have just took the 2500 dollars and kept their mouth shut. The casino didn't have to pay pay him anything. All jackpots and the like are subject to casino verification and can be voided by the casino.
