NARA has been requesting documents to be handed over since January 2021. 15 boxes were provided to NARA in January this year. NARA then went to the DOJ to determine if any laws had been been broken. During the course of their investigation it was determined that documents were still missing. As a result, the DOJ sent investigators to MAL in June with a subpoena. Turns out Trump still didn't hand over all of the documents which is what prompted the search warrant.

So, NARA and the DOJ have been trying to get these documents for 18 months but Trump has decided not to fully cooperate. Trump has no one just than himself to blame for how this all went down.

the nixon tapes and papers fight went on for 25 years, well after his death. in 1998 a court ruled that over 800hrs of the tapes and 42 million documents were his personal private property.

and they new for sure that he was guilty and never raided his house or libray.

I'm aware of that. That doesn't address what I said in any way. Let me try again.

Where was the urgency? You have extraordinarily sensitive national security documents at an unsecured location and we are just going to ask you nicely for them for 18 months.

Even if you just count back to January this year. Okay he turned over documents. We let him keep them, supposedly jeopardizing national security, for a year. But he gave them to us. *looks and sees the super serious # we were concerned about wasn't included* and we take another 7 months to get to this point?

It makes no sense. There's just no way to spin it.

If they were really so sensitive, action should've been taken much sooner. This is either another stunning failure of our national security apparatus or the importance of the documents is being exaggerated.

I recall a certain unhinged liberal member here stating unequivocally that if Trump was ever impeached he would launch the nukes. He made the same prediction that Trump would launch the nukes if he lost in 2020.

there are certain materials that presidents cannot classify and declassify at will. One such category of material is the identity of spies.

Another is nuclear secrets. The Atomic Energy Acts of 1946 and 1954 produced an even stranger category of classified knowledge. Anything related to the production or use of nuclear weapons and nuclear power is inherently classified, and Trump could utter whatever words he pleased yet still be in possession of classified material.

Or because at first they were not aware of him having classified documents. First NARA encountered a long delay in getting documents. That took almost all of 2021.

When they did finally get additional documents after requesting them from Trump in February, they found some documents marked classified in the bunch.

Then, we could surmise that was concerning and they started inventory of what may be missing. As talks with his lawyers went nowhere, they did what they should and issued a subpoena. They may have also had a flipper at that point who gave them more info. Maybe they knew documents or the information was being sold or shown to those unauthorized to see classified info. The Counterintelligence team went, saw where he said he kept them and advised him to lock it. Maybe they surveilled at that time.

Something caused them to act within 2 weeks of the President's contact with Orban and the Saudis.

If they were aware he had them for a year without the government being aware, then a few more months to put together unrefutable evidence that he was accessing or allowing others to access the information for potentially money or whatever.

Just a theory, but why just bust him for the documents, a minor felony, when he's going to incriminate himself for espionage or selling info. No idea yet at this point. Have to wait and see. Again, a theory. Not claiming this is what occurred.

The first indication of a problem:

That is dated February 2022.
