Ukraine wouldn't be today if it wasnt for the Russian assistance to the so called allies that became weak if not in their woke social issues.

In what possible way did modern russia ever help the west?
Other than selling natural resources and letting the entire german army invade russia of course.

They didn't and if it were not for the US and the lend lease act Russia would not have been able to hold the Nazis off. So I guess the US did make a mistake in that regard. Russia / USSR should have been left to their own fate with the Nazis.
I do think that giving russia the ability to advance beyond the russian border was a horrible mistake though, and directly led to both the cold war and russia's current invasion of Ukraine, among many other things.

The mistake was not turning Patton loose at the end, and then there wouldn't be any problems now.

Russia has scaled down its May 9 Victory Day military parade by almost 35%, according to Forbes.
The annual parade through Red Square, which marks the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, is usually a showpiece of Russian military power.
But Forbes reported that this year's slimmed-down affair, due to take place on Monday, will more likely highlight the country's military weakness in Ukraine.
There will be only 129 military vehicles and 10,000 personnel, compared to about 191 military vehicles and about 12,000 military personnel in 2021, according to information published by Russia's Defense Ministry, per The Moscow Times.
Wrecked Russian fighter jets are being found with rudimentary GPS receivers "taped to the dashboards" in Ukraine because their inbuilt navigation systems are so bad, the UK's defense secretary, Ben Wallace, said.

OK so it probably works but not as well as a REAL drone.
Civilian components are widely used for Orlan-10, which made it possible to drastically reduce its cost and produce more than 1000-1500 copies. The production of Orlan-10 is 200-300 copies annually.
Orlan-10 uses civilian imported components that have sharply fallen in price in recent years. In addition to the low price, they are also not regulated by the legislation on the circulation of military technologies like ITAR. All electronics and engines of the Orlan-10 are imported components, but the UAV designers made a "decoupling from suppliers", i.e. no imported part is critical and can be replaced with an analogue. For this reason, the study of the downed Orlan-10 each time demonstrates new configurations of microcircuits, optics and even engines.
Domestic in Orlan-10 is a rather complex software, taking into account a large number of options for Orlan-10 equipment with various equipment, as well as a huge number of options for imported components. Moreover, for many components, like the engine, the diagnostic mode of serviceability is maintained right in flight using special sensors. In addition, the drone software supports a rather complex orthomosaic mode glued from individual images. Russian-made is also Orlan-10 composite wings made of carbon fiber, which provides them with radio transparency. This stealth technology is "know-how" because It is usually difficult to use composite wings on UAVs due to the problem of icing and the complexity of mounting the anti-icing protection of the wing. For low-flying UAVs, this problem is critical, so Orlan-10 analogues are quite rare in the world. The fact is that when precipitation hits the wings of the UAV at a negative temperature, they instantly freeze, lose lift and stall the UAV. Heating even metal wings is not effective enough in case of direct precipitation, in addition, the UAV, by heating the wings, unmasks itself in the infrared range. Orlan-10 does not use a heated metal wing, but a special polymer foil on composite radio-transparent wings. In case of icing, the film separates from the wing along with the ice crust.

Once again for strange people:
In addition to the low price, they are also not regulated by the legislation on the circulation of military technologies like ITAR.
This means that these devices are freely available worldwide.
If they are not sold to Russia, then India, Argentina, Thailand (or any other country) will buy them and then sell them to Russia.
