Since Disney is fighting this tooth and nail it's a good bet it will be a net negative to them and a net positive to the local communities.

It does impact how much they pay in state and local taxes. Why do you think Disney is fighting this so hard?

It's county taxes which aren't used for state-level programs contrary to what the other poster assumed.

No, they will likely pay the same or slightly more than they are now, the real difference is their ability to get municipal bonds will be dissolved.

This is going to do nothing or help Florida/local counties, and hurt Disney big time, which is why Disney is screaming no.

No, what? No this isn't county taxes? It is. The county tax burden has nothing to do with what they pay in state taxes nor does it increase or decrease what the state can use to pay for programs like the other poster claimed.

Florida is in the headlights of the new and improved batch of COVID they say. I believe that covid is a plan to shut him down. When the government and others say COVD will hit Florida hard you know it's planned. So Disney will close down again and the rest of the state will be punished for his actions.

There will be no impact to residents. Nothing. What is does show is that DeSantis is in no ones pocket. People who live here have wanted to dissolved for a very long time. The fact is they do what they want with little oversight. WD does not have to comply with any state or local laws either.

Another gem with these folks is in 1990 or 91 they were granted about 60 million in tax free state bonds that could have gone to 6 other local counties.

Look up what they did to Celebration and how it was annexed also.

Most Florida residents are very happy about this. When it was built it was supposed to be a future community but after Walt died that all changed. It is how the got the term EPCOT...

Look up Val and Jay Demings and you will have a better idea of who is creating this as a Progressive hit piece.

Let's keep an eye on it to see if that comes to fruition. That would be interesting timing wouldn't it.

No, you are right, they pay state taxes. All these hit piece articles are funny, trying to say how horrible this will be for Floridians, when it's the opposite, as evidenced by Disney's statements saying they aren't going to comply because Florida can't make them.

Well, it could be bad for the counties that have to foot the bill and ramp up infrastructure. I have a feeling that Disney is probably more efficient with their services than your typical public works department where it takes 10 guys to fill a pothole.

One thing is conveniently left out. Disney will have to pay taxes. Property taxes, hotel taxes, amusement taxes............ It goes on and on. Right now Disney pays NO TAXES.

They do that now. The property taxes go to the special district and they already pay Florida's other taxes.

This is a zero sum game, there is nothing to be gained or lost net, it just gets moved from one bucket to another.

In theory governments are not supposed to hurt people. That's what it says in the US Constitution and state counterparts.

In reality, government hurts people all the time, in too many ways to count, like injecting them with a dangerous drug.

The law prohibits government from hurting people except by due process. Government is above the law if you've noticed, it holds itself above the law.

They won't foot the bill or ramp up infrastructure, Disney already pays the bill to Reedy Creek, that money will simply be shifted to the counties.

Except there is a loss, the loss of Disney to get municipal bonds, which will cost them significant money in the long run.

Reedy Creek as a taxing entity would be dissolved and the municipal tasks it performs would need to be handled by a county or municipal entity. Disney pays the taxes to itself (basically) and does the work itself with it's own labor force, the county doesn't have that nor do I think they can easily subsume the Reedy Creek personnel.

Cost who and how?

Municipal bonds are tax exempt. That gives Disney a huge advantage in attracting investors, especially wealthy ones. So it will cost Disney by making it less able to attract investors. Why do you think they are fighting this so hard?

Huh? Why would Disney care about issuing bonds if the interest bearing burden of those bonds and the infrastructure they support are moved to a municipal or county agency?
