Marvin Lee Aday was born in Dallas, Texas on Sept. 27th, 1947. He was a chunky baby and he claimed his father named him “Meat” when he was just four-days old. His father was also a violent alcoholic that regularly beat him, and things at school weren’t much better since his large size caused the kids to mercilessly tease him. Things turned around in high school when his stature proved to be an asset on the football team. He also discovered he suddenly had a three and a half octave vocal range his sophomore year after a 12-pound shot landed on his head during a track and field event. (For the rest of his life, he believed the accident somehow created his singing voice.)

Everyone should read his bio.
He worked with such a range of people in the entertainment industry. He was a close friend of John Belushi... and didn't die young because of drugs.
Kudos to a full life lived by him.

Heart is broken ... all through my life in my darkest hours , I could turn on Meat Loaf and make it through somehow. I am forever thankful for that.

I can just imagine the music in Heaven --- he and Steiman are together again .

This one breaks my heart! I remember when Two Out of Three Ain't Bad came out. It was my favorite song in 1977. Bat Out of Hell was likely the first album I bought. Was lucky enough to see him in concert.

Amazing, just thinking of Meatloaf today, wondering about his health, no reasons, just popped into my head
Truly one of my favourite artists

One of the best
Listened to this song once and had me tearing up all of a sudden

talk about a screen name misnomer...

His name was ROBERT PAULSON.

He later joined Tyler Durden and Project Mayhem and in his death we learned his name

Honestly, I don't know a male above the age of 40 that doesn't know the reference. Meat Loaf lived a helluva life, did a lot of stuff. It was definitely this part that I thought was so cool and such an iconic part.

Loved his songs my ex-wife and I used to literally sing "Paradise by the dashboard lights" to each other just to sing the last verse with extreme relish and enjoyment.

So now I'm praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive
'Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don't think that I can really survive
I'll never break my promise or forget my vow
But God only knows what I can do right now
I'm praying for the end of time
It's all that I can do (ooh, ooh)
Praying for the end of time
So I can end my time with you

Such a shame. He could tell a wonderful story through his music. Operatic Rock at its finest. RIP big fella.

I remember watching the World Series in the 90's. Meatloaf was singing the National Anthem. NBC was interviewing him and Yogi Berra. Berra said to Meatloaf "I've always wanted to meet you. I have one question. In your song, I gotta know, was the guy out or safe?"

RIP Friend!

So sad to see this. Me band opened for him at the Roxy in Hollywood in 88 or 89. He was incredibly nice, the whole band was nice. I met them all & we hung out bit before the concert, especially the drummer & I.

Cheers
Ektar
