Title taken from the headline. It appears that not only have they locked down over a single positive case, but also that the population is only 20% vaccinated. This is a full on level 4 lockdown, which means businesses and schools will be closed.

The case was detected in Auckland, which will be in lockdown for a week, while the rest of the country will be in lockdown for three days.

For a single person. Does that make sense to anyone else?

There was reportedly a rush at supermarkets in Auckland, as locals anticipated a snap lockdown.

Apparently they've been trained to anticipate these lockdowns, I wonder if NZ is now the model of what they want the rest of the world to be. Oh wait, we have only 20% fully vaccinated that can't be right. Have to get those numbers up if you want to be a model for complete societal control in the rest of the world.

It's probably a false positive. I'd get a second opinion.

3 days only doesn't make sense neither.

Don’t worry a real New Zealander will be along to tell you how this is actually great and better then anything anyone else is doing. They will show you with Stats how this is amazing and effective. They will be happy about it too.

At this rate they might as well issue everyone a hazmat suit! You know just to be safe.

At the end of the first day, there are 10 positive cases and a suspected further 120.

The lockdowns have to be fast to be effective at all.

The guy tested positive and so was quarantined at home straight away. A couple of hours later, the country was under a 3 day level 4 lockdown (7 days in Auckland, where the man lives), the next morning, they had genotyped the full sequence and confirmed it was the Delta strain.

The national lockdown made sense because the guy had travelled around the country a fair bit in the preceding days.

The vaccinations are continuing, that hasn't slowed down at all. As are testing of wastewater and individuals who may have been exposed.

You can only get ahead of these sorts of things by acting fast. We have done this three times before, and it's worked. Let's see how things go this time?

The last lockdown was 3 days, and that worked. I suppose you go with what you know.

Wow, just wow, imagine what a power trip is to catch the cold and your whole country shuts down and everyone is sifting each others poop looking for variants or whatever.

Sounds super smart, god how proud i am of us hu-mans.

But this will never end, there will always be a case, from now and forever more. I dunno man.

Is NZ a totally socialist nation where the Government pays you and owns all your stuff, or do you folks have to work for your food and junk?

But only 20%, that's weaksauce. You do know that we have had vaccines for months now right? Are you people all anti vax, or is it the government holding out on you?

It's killing people all around us. It isn't a cold.

We have had hundreds of days with no community cases of COVID-19 because we did the lockdowns right. We can do it again and again. Are you suggesting that we should just not even try?

LOL

How can businesses survive there with lockdown after lockdown?

Not to mention people not working to afford to pay their bills?

I'm inclined to believe this as well. It's going to be an annual thing, much like the flu, and other cold virus'. It's not going to end, I just hope that we finally pull our collective heads out of our rears and realize this isn't smallpox or the 1918 flu. Are people going to die? Absolutely.

Yet we can't keep going around acting as if it's going to kill everyone, you can't protect the entire population of humans, people will get sick and die. Its only been happening for thousands of years.

It's an overreaction for sure, after all it's an island, by it very nature as long as people are not allowed in and out of the country freely, they are self-isolated.

To me it's like I stubbed my toe and cut it, so I am going to cut my foot off to stop the possible development of gangrene from setting in, it's way overkill.
