For a single person. Does that make sense to anyone else?

3 days only doesn't make sense neither.

The last lockdown was 3 days, and that worked. I suppose you go with what you know.

But this will never end, there will always be a case, from now and forever more. I dunno man.

So you just give up?

So much for 'true grit'.

chr0 it's not giving up mate.

It's understanding that doing the same thing in this case lock downs over and over again is not an option. Its not fiscally possible even you can see that mate .

I mean the " Vaccine " is out there and even still Governments are running for the hills at the first sign of Covid-19, and Lock downs cannot be maintained simple as that.

So the cold hard truth is , Covid-19 is here to stay and people are going to die every time it makes a pass .

The World must keep spinning .

Are you saying the "common cold" does not , or has ever , been the cause of death for people ?

Sure it has.

But has it ever killed 1/2 a million in the US in the space of a year?

We have had hundreds of days with no community cases of COVID-19 because we did the lockdowns right. We can do it again and again. Are you suggesting that we should just not even try?

LOL

I honestly don't know what to think. Perpetually shutting down over a case, seems unsustainable in the long run.

Why? Do you keep breathing again, and again, and again?

Some things are necessary if you are going to stay healthy.

I think it would be more like holding your breath. You can for a while, but to long and you die. Same with businesses, three days may not be long, but months like the first lock down can indeed bankrupt them. It's all a matter of measure.

So, how long do you think our lockdown is for?

Why did just three days work for us before?

Well, you keep doing your stuff, self-sabotaging any coordinated effort, we can all see how well that is going.

We'll do our stuff, because we think it will work, like it has done three times before.

Some things are necessary if you are going to stay healthy.

And some things are unhealthy for future generations .
Isolation is one .

You know, if you force someone to drink from a fire hose at full pressure, they'll probably drown. That's no reason to disallow people from having a glass of water occasionally.

You are acting like this is some permanent and continuous thing.

Once we have beaten this outbreak, we'll stop. We have reason to believe that it won't go on forever, because unlike in other countries, we have risen to the challenge well before it goes too far beyond control.

In the US, they waited months. In the UK, weeks. That's really, really, hard to step back from.

It's day two here and already there are 21 confirmed cases. It;s expected for cases to rise for the next few days. Most estimates are that it will be about the 120 mark.

I'd also guess that we will lock down for about two weeks because of the rate of infection of this Delta strain. But we'll still beat it. And our economy didn't start with a massive deficit. The government have passed bills already for contingency payments to tide us over. That also didn't take weeks.

All in all, we can do this.

If you don’t see that they are trying to make it a permanent and continuous thing, I don’t know what to tell you because that’s what they are doing.

Keep your head in the sand though.

It's an infectious disease, like all the other ones we have had all throughout human history. There's no 'they' doing it, and no one 'making' anything (except doom-porn).

Head is not in sand.

It's a Virus and no mate it's nothing like the other ones through out history .

Covid-19 is a Joke compared to the historical Plagues , Diseases and Viruses that are worth mentioning , Those Sicknesses killed out right millions of people no co-morbidity needed.

A half a million people in the US, I'd say either this virus is weak or our healthcare system has improved dramatically. I'm thinking a bit of both.

It's not as bad as the media makes it out to be, yes it has killed people just like a majority of new viruses. It will begin to lose even that much as people are infected and recover, just like the flu of 1918 and modern common cold viruses. I'm willing to wager that some of those common cold viruses that give no more than a runny nose were absolutely lethal to some of our ancestors.

This is just the next round of a new virus, unfortunately the governments of the world are taking advantage. It's hard not to see the insane measures they're going with, if you don't think they're insane that might say something.

I would suggest that it is insane that you can defend yourself, cheaply, easily, and in a way that causes no harm to others. And you don't.

Yet you also become all butt-hurt about those that choose to take affirmative action on it.

Current CFR in the US is that more than 1 in every hundred that get the disease, die from it.

Multiply that by your total population, and see if you are comfortable with not doing anything to stop it from reaching your entire population.

I mean, during Pearl Harbor only 0.00175 of a % of the 1941 population died, and you guys went to war over that?

The next flu outbreak, we should just shut down our economies and destroy livelihoods because someone may die.

Sounds super smart, god how proud i am of us hu-mans.

Yeah killing old and sick people, just like the cold.

No people are not dying around us, especially not if an as of yet unisolated virus.
I know a few people who had it, including myself.
Some had at their worst a ver bad cold, others loss of smell and taste and the rest didn't have anything at all.

That's the reality.
People in hospital are those that unfortunately would end up there during any winter season. It's called life.
Those people of course should take extra care, nobody else needs to though. Not necessary at all.

What's it like to be a frightened rabbit without any actual knowledge about the things you are so scared about?

You too could be free if you chose to get out of the cave of scary shadows and learn the truth.

Delta is killing younger and fitter people. In the news just yesterday was a young family in the US with a baby that is now an orphan because both its parents died from COVID-19.

Is NZ a totally socialist nation where the Government pays you and owns all your stuff, or do you folks have to work for your food and junk?

Of course not, we are as Capitalist as the UK or Western Europe. But we also don't think that some deaths in place of saving a few dollars is a fair exchange.

So when you all close down, you just accept that you can't make money during that time, and it's all good, you will just continue doing this for each new case that crops up. If that works for you, super.

But only 20%, that's weaksauce. You do know that we have had vaccines for months now right? Are you people all anti vax, or is it the government holding out on you?

Nah, yeah, nah.

At the time, since we had zero cases of COVID-19 in the community for more than a year, there didn't seem to be any urgency to get everyone vaccinated. And we were being cautious, only using the most effective vaccine and ensuring that people don't get missed out in the rush.

Oh, and vaccination here is entirely voluntary. No lotteries or inducements, no mandates - actual real freedom of choice, not like some of them 'other' countries.

Um, you have freedom to not get the shot, but you are forced to lock down with each new case. Yup, you got the freedom thing all figured out. Way better than most. Derp.

Sure it does, the news... Riight. They probably died of overdose and were marked as kungflu. People soiling themselves over some virus that in most cases does not even produce any symptoms. Well soon enough we will be having this same discussion, only difference will be that virus lockdown will be a climatelockdown. So see you soon.

Came into the country through Sydney tourist. Spread by fully vaccinated nurse. 18/21 current cases have been vaccinated.

Bank of NZ was required to raise interest rates on Wed barring a lockdown. Lockdown came at perfect time to kick the can down the road. Media was prepping public with reports of impending lockdown 2 weeks in advance. How much of it is theatre?

Disease is now endemic. Everyone will deal with this going forward. 7 caronaviruses in circulation. 3 new variations since 2003. In all of man's history on this planet. 3/7 arriving in the last few years.

You are wrong. In Fiji, there are deaths from COVID-19 of people who were younger and not otherwise sick.

In Australia, there are deaths from COVID-19 of people who are younger and not otherwise sick.

I can recall US Navy ships where just about everyone had COVID-19 and there were deaths from it. Were they old and sick?
