no, but they will take the opportunity to cozy up to them. And its a major win when the west is begging the Taliban not to do things. The UN is saying please don't hurt those females and the US state department asking them not to attack the US embassy because it would look bad as it burns to the ground.

This pullout was mishandled and now there is more blood on the streets.

I think they're just seizing on an opportunity.

They've definitely done all they can to nudge that opportunity forward in their favour.

Lot's of players involved, this is going to get very interesting.

Well, you have to admit, the Taliban do have a sense of humour.
Check out our boys first day on the job as traffic cop.

It might also be in the Chinese interest, if they had the power, to impose peace on all sides in the Middle East. Pax Sinitica.

M8, Afghanistan escaping overwhelming American influence naturally means some Americans -namely CIA- will consider it a great loss. Perhaps loss-of-access to lithium or some rare earth represents a significant ‘opportunity cost’ of not being in the driver’s seat.

But no business comes remotely close to the drug business for fun & profit, and over the past week you can rest assured those red-blooded American boys of the CIA (and their more pragmatic controllers) have hearts heavy with stagnating embitterment, and are grinding their teeth in frustration & humiliation at ‘them Gutt-dayam, backwards-ass, funna-mennle Islam rag-hayds’ who rode them outa town on a rail and didn’t even have the good sense to wear masks (not a single one it seems; a charge to which the response would be “We don’t have COVID here…coz we don’t watch TV”)

But seriously, As soon as the US occupied Afghanistan, the previously booming Indochina heroin business all but dried up, while production of the Afghan fields and profits from existing & new markets reached new highs (erm… scuse the pun).

If that cash cow evaporates, the CIA Drug Biz fall-back position will be familiar old Golden Triangle stomping grounds, where once again we’ll see unmarked AC dropping crates by parachute over jungles; Youthful, stern and impossibly-burly American ‘hippies’ (pretending they don’t know each other, as they wait for giant duffles of heavy equipment at the single baggage carousels of tiny mountain airports), who then head out to direct ‘cultural exchanges’ with marginalized border folk of 100 flavors.

…. (Just think of the Americans agitating from Peshawar Pakistan back in mid-‘80s, before the same Taliban handed the Russians their ass-on-a-plate…. Yep, exactly like that!)

The Chinese angle? They most probably regard Mr.Biden with a jaundiced eye as a 21st century Max Headroom of doubtful personal credibility, given the unfortunate circumstances of his ascendancy and his teleprompter difficulties. But they no doubt have a grudging respect for the intel org(s) pulling Mr.Biden’s strings. Today the Chinese remain astute as ever, but now are also rich.

I predict every index will soon record the Indochina smack biz rocketing to a new apogee, at the same time the USA -using CIA++ - will re-assert influence thru Thailand (literally & figuratively speaking) on areas bordering and inside Indochina and Myanmar with the acquiescence & help of their old pals running the Thai military. For the 1st time in 15 years the Thai generals will now breath easier when putting down domestic unrest of any kind, and will be the envy of everyone on ASEAN street; Just think of it: a California girl beauty courting them one side, and a lovely Shanghai skinny softly whispering on the other.

THAT is what a speedy US departure from Kabul means in my opinion. Love to know what y’all have to say on this.
Cheers,
Laodude

Every country and terrorist group with aspirations of conquest, are wise to implement them while America is leaderless.

I've been saying since Jan 21st, they're all sharpening their teeth, and drooling in anticipation of executing any number of plans, without fearing repercussions from the United States.

We need a REAL President / Commander-in-Chief RIGHT NOW.

China would only turn against the Taliban if fanatical Uyghur Muslims who denounce Beijing for oppressing their religion and culture are summoned by the Taliban to launch attacks on factories, military bases, airports, and other commercial hotspots in China.
