What would a culture possibly MILLIONS of years more advanced than ours have to say to US?

I have been giving this a lot of thought as of late. With all the UFO videos and talk on the MSM, I started to think. Maybe the aliens ARE here, for whatever reason, but WE are not the reason. Maybe this is just a base out in the boondocks of the galaxy and we are just a very primitive, uninteresting, possibly BORING species they have little or no interest in. They may like our planet, but us, not so much. We may be as interesting to talk to as a squirrel, maybe even less so. Think of the technological change we have seen in the past 25 years. Now think of the amount of change occurring in an advanced society over a MILLION years and you start to get the picture. If they ARE here, they may have seen a decent portion of the galaxy already, and as species go, maybe we are just not all that interesting or useful. Talking to us, might be like talking to a chimpanzee, maybe you could figure out a way to make it work, but what would you really have to talk about? Its our own arrogance that drives the notion that advanced aliens would even want to try to communicate with us. Ok, that's my thought, wondering what anyone else thinks of this.

I'm inclined to agree with everything you said. Nothing further to add.

The only communication that they've made, that doesn't rely on word of mouth from human witnesses...

Is when they turned off the arming mechanisms for nuclear warheads.

My guess is that communication was "No." either a "This is the great filter." or "Don't use these, they're bad."

I could be wrong, and it could be something else entirely, but that interaction was communicating something, for sure.

For a start Vrillon, if he was who he said he is he was quite an idiot. Calling from the galaxy with a warning for the Earth.
1. Why didn't he break into all the TV stations around the world with his message.
2. Why only just England.
3.Why only speak in just English.
4. Him mentioning the age of Aquarius means he aint an alien but English because these "ages" are an Earthly human construct.
%. the only thing this guy is got going for him is that the authorities don't know how he did it and by extension he aint been caught.

Now before you try and think about any interaction between an advanced civilisation and us you must try and consider what an alien life is. IE. how do they feed themselves? Is their food free or do they have to work for it ? If they work for it do they have a "monetary" or "reward" system? How do they breed? IE. is there a male and female? If so is there any sort of competition for mates? The everyday tasks and interactions that every species, including those on Earth, have to go through.
In other words they may be millions of years in advance of us but the mundane of everyday life may be the same as ours.

One thing I've wondered about....

If Aliens were to make it here, they probably journeyed an extreme distance and may not be the one's who built the machine they're traveling in. In a perfect scenario, there would be multiple families, and enough of them to reproduce along the way and teach their kids everything they know, and that could continue for generations....

But what if they're a bunch of deformed inbred idiots by the time they get here...

Or maybe the survivors who make it here, are the offspring of a much less intelligent species who were aboard the ship as slaves, but somewhere along the way they had revolted against, and killed their former masters. They may know how to continue flying the ship, because they're descended from the maintenance workers who kept it running, but they don't really know how it works.

At least as far as we know, literally anything is possible, right? I just don't necessarily think the fact that they could make it here definitively means they will be super-intelligent. They probably would be, but I do think it is at least a possibility that they might not be as smart as most people automatically expect them to be.

Everything is possible, but most things are censored, and pushed away from public knowledge.

What would they say???

"Oh look, it makes funny squeaking noises when we stick the pointy probe into it. Isn't that cute! I wonder if it tastes good...Let's eat it!"

I think the aliens come to earth to eat the hippies. The "aliens" are not technically putting the drugs in their bodies. I'd like to think there is a space law enforcement.

Edit: we don't live on Earth. We live on drug world

Am imagining a rocky crag, with millions of birds on it.

Squawking and quarrelling endlessly.
One chases another one away, while another sneaks-in and steals his stuff.

Are we really interested, in the emotions and perceptions, of any single one of those birds ?

Gee : what what that fellow is thinking right now ?

Then they'd probably settle in the US and get on fine.

And start posting pro Trump stuff on ATS.

Joke. Before the usual suspects get their knickers all in a twist.

Our own human civilization is not even 15 thousand years old and there have certainly been changes (advances, I suppose). I'm with a lot of people who think humanity as we know it will be gone in another 1000 years or less as a result of a super AI singularity as well as people deliberately modifying their own genetics to the point where we're no longer exactly human. After a million years, it's hard to say what "we" will be capable of.

AI will physically explore the galaxy in our place. We'll divide ourselves up into different components. Maybe get our AI to help each new transhuman species move to their own separate planets to avoid culturally initiated conflict.

But there's also a very good chance that we'll sink further into virtual worlds and just give up on space because it's just an insanely vast, dead void with nothing our video games can't duplicate or surpass in our own minds.

Could be a lot of civilizations like that. At a certain point, they implode into virtual existence with a small efficient intelligent machine system keeping it going, keeping the last natural organisms alive as long as possible.

Difficult to guess what a non-human intelligence would do, because the only examples we have are the animals. We have a very difficult time thinking out of our own box.

Maybe the "aliens" listened to our radio and television
broadcasting and learned our different languages.Maybe
the "aliens" are telepathic and listen to our brain waves.

Maybe the aliens ARE our brainwaves, or at least a part of them. In a million years an intelligent species could go from creatures to machines to nothing more than patterns of energy that can exist without physical form. Living in your head as a thought.

one of the smartest men that ever lived seemed to think otherwise.

i think i will go with Hawkins on this

Hawking's warning is posted on The Mary Sue: "If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans." The guy's not wrong about that. Did Hawking even believe in alien life? Of course he did. The universe is a big place. There's bound to be life out there somewhere. As the BBC reported, he also believed it was perfectly rational to assume that aliens would plunder Earth's resources and leave us for dead. Such optimism. Read More: www.grunge.com...

to think other wise is nothing but foolishness, sure there maybe some but it's more than likely that they would do exactly as Hawkins said.

A civilization which is millions of years more advanced than us may not even be *able* to communicate with us. Not for lack of technology, but it may not be able to simplify itself enough for us to understand.

I disagree , it would be easy for them to study and translate all our languages as we've been broadcasting them into space for decades , if they have the technology to get here they have the technology to communicate with us .... or rather our governments.

Well, I agree with BlankUsername.

Learning a language without a reference in out own language is very difficult.
Watching TV broadcasts would show only a few common objects but those images are not good at transmitting thoughts and emotions, and they are big part of our languages.
Having learned English by watching subtitled movies I know a little about how difficult it is to learn a language with only partial references to our language, that's why my spelling is not that bad by my grammar is, as I never learned the rules of the English language (that is a very easy language to learn, at least for a Portuguese).
