new reason for alien visitation, conquest

i was thinking about human history and aliens, and thought of a reason aliens may expand other than the usual.

the usual being power, and resources.

but what if its for religion?

what if they have a catholic church type mentality that's convert by word or sword?

it took a long time for the catholics, but aliens would be able to use advanced tech to say "all this is yours, just acknowledge our god, the god of all".

strangely, i find alien zealots much scarier than alien power mad overlords.

Then I'd probably jump on board.. because if they are a few thousand years or more ahead of us, and been around the universe, they may know a thing or two more about spirituality than we do

i think the majority of people would be the same.

however it would depend on the approach. if its the "convert or die" method, not so much. if its the "heres our holy text", it would have a better shot.

That has been done before and is nowhere near new. Even recently on SyFy channels version of "Childhood's End" by Arthur C. Clark. Rather than to spread a religion, they came back to fulfill our religion. Some were rather upset with the angles though. Some could not accept the horns, the hooves, the tail, the wings, etc... I speek of the characters in the miniseries and the religious in real life protesting the depiction.
