No it's called being a good American and good human, help each other when needed.

This is a dumb thread and I mean no disrespect OP. Should be deleted because there is absolutely no validity behind what you are saying.

The only solution that will realistically end the need for fossil fuels is nuclear power.

Unfortunately that energy source has been subject to a decades-long intensive campaign of slander and propaganda. Helped in part by the fossil energy cartels no doubt.

I had my way every country would be running 100% on nuclear power.

Governments, in theory, exist to protect the people and their rights/property. The Federal Government is constitutionally mandated to provide mutual support to the states in emergencies.

Your socialism argument is nonsense.

trying to get your implication...the OP asked why Texas should ask for "assistance" for the storm damage, etc...can we interject "aid" for "assistance"...? What is the point of word play here?
States pay into funds so that they may receive aid when necessary...what fund do other countries pay into for aid...or assistance?
I suggest perhaps you have the notion of using "benevolence" or "charity" which is quite different.

Ahh, stuff it. This is just more proof of the fact that the entire US is coming to more resemble a third world country and a bannana republic. Its easy to hate Texas......jealous types have done so for decades.

Hey, smart ass.

Wheres my "aid" as an American citizen, diagnosed with a disabling mental illness, tested on as a lab rat for big pharma and I've spent the past 3 years asking for "aid"?

Where is it? I haven't gotten any "relief" funds. But the middle east can get billions for gender studies?

Where is Bidens unity? He can write a check to foreign entities helping grease the wheels in multiple countries elections, but can't get the government to "aid" their own citizens?

But let's open the flood gate for illegal immigrants, I mean "noncitizens" and house them, meanwhile I'm left in freezing Minnesota with no income.

Be straight with me, do you want me to die?

Thank god you're not a natural blonde. Though I'd be hard-pressed to write off the possibility after that OP. One difference between what you're trying to do, and me: What does the government already do that wouldn't be considered socialism by thou anyhow?

Aaand....GO! Answer quick!

Its a once in 30 year event - foolish and wasteful to buy and maintain equipment or spend mega bucks to upgrade grid for such rare events.

Premise of socialism is misdirected and doesn't meet food for thought level, not even close.

This cold might be, but as you see my link posted previously Texas has 37 PAGES of needing Federal assistance.

Jealous of a state needing assistance so often?

Well, you know ... if they didn't have hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, and now drastic winter weather ... pretty much every natural disaster known to man short of seismic.

Er, no, they get 'quakes, too. Edit: Mostly minor, little quakes. Not including the fault line out in the middle of the Gulf that made it's opinions heard back in '05 or '06.

Between weather and geology, TX is actually a pretty hoppin' state.

Ted Cruz Defends Vote Against Superstorm Sandy Aid Amid Harvey Destruction

Cruz is now dealing with hurricane relief efforts in his home state of Texas, after Hurricane Harvey made landfall on Aug. 25 as a category 4 storm. In the days since, the storm has dumped more than 50 inches of rain in some parts of Houston. There are at least 30 confirmed or suspected deaths due to the storm, reports The New York Times.

And what sorts of pork was stuffed into Sandy relief?

Was it larded down with all the hundred and one non-COVID related political items that were tacked on to COVID "relief"?

Maybe you don't remember, but even people on his side were mad at him.
Hypocrisy at it's finest.

There really wasn't a lot of pork, but questions on emergency vs. non emergency hurricane spending.

www.usatoday.com...

Cruz could have said he thought the Sandy relief legislation included too many non-emergency items. That’s fair enough, and his opinion. But he was wrong to specifically say two-thirds of the bill “had nothing to do with Sandy,” or “little or nothing to do with Hurricane Sandy.”

Do you think the aid given to Texas has non-emergency items?

37 Pages of aid that is.

Jealous? Born and raised in Texas but you couldn't pay me to move back. But thank the good lord for those natural gas leases that allow me to live in paradise. I feel sorry for my relatives in Lubbock and Amarillo; They need the govt. assistance.

Texas has always thought of itself as an independent state. They even call themselves their own republic.
The people sure are different there, not necessarily bad or good, just different.

They sure do have the most independent spirit.......until............weather.

Yes folks that’s right, as soon some cold, snow or rain hits TeeeHAw all bets are off.
abc13.com...

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Saturday warned that all of Texas faces an unprecedented winter storm and issued a state disaster declaration. President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration for the state of Texas and ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local response efforts

What do you call it when a state can’t take care of it’s own citizens and gets federal assistance? Isn’t that socialism???
That horrible S word...

Picking on Texas here, but Just food for thought..

Depends on what we're talking about.

It's like the COVID relief. Do you think a federal $15 minimum wage is COVID relief because it's in the COVID relief bill.
