This # is so misleading. He had a heart attack from complication from a surgery is what I read earlier. But last night when my wife read me the story, it mentioned nothing but Covid.

The spin is that the surgery is related to covid complications, therefore the heart attack from the surgery is a covid death....

We don't have the full story, but death of a 41 year old congressman elect makes for good headlines when selling fear.

He wouldn't have needed the steroids of he didn't have COVID 19. Ergo, he died from complications related to COVID 19.

The articles I read don't mention any other conditions that may have been a contributing factor. Sounds like he may have had a heart attack. So did he have a heart attack and just happened to be covid positive or did covid cause a heart attack?

Statistically, he is an anomaly. 41 year olds, much less healthy ones, already barely register in the stats of Covid deaths.

My younger brother had a heart attack around that same age. His eating habits played a huge role in it.

It's like the first COVID death in our area.

An elderly gentleman who was rushed to the hospital out of a LTC facility with a cardiac incident. That's what killed him, but while medical staff were treating him, they noticed symptoms, so he was tested posthumously. Guess what? He was positive, so he was then a COVID death.

Still not a COVID death. It's a side effect from the steroids and would be called such in any other instance.

Sheesh. You guys and your denial!

He had COVID 19. He was in the hospital ICU because of COVID 19. He was in surgery because of the effects of COVID 19. He died because of COVID 19.

COVID 19 is real, it's not a hoax. It is killing people, over 320,000 American so far.

This is a sad story because the guy was young and apparently otherwise a healthy young man. He was campaigning in Republican form, without social distancing and without masking up, and he won! Then he died....too soon...from something he most probably could have avoided had he paid attention to basic safety guidelines. Ask Chris Christie!

Steroids are meds that are used to, mask or reduce, symptoms.

Steroids are not cures and can sometimes cause problems worse than the symptoms they are trying to control.

COVID probably played a very small role, if any, in his death.

If Letlow hadn't have contracted COVID 19, he would be alive today.

Maybe or maybe not. If he had a bad reaction to a Covid treatment then the treatment is the cause of death, not Covid.

If you have a headache and have a bad reaction to Aspirin, the headache didn't kill you. The aspirin did...

There are too many details missing to know either way, but it is easy to just say Covid did it. However, we know from published data that is highly unlikely the sole cause.

That's a really dumb example.

No, there are not.

"Died from complications" is a catch all phrase when the medical community doesn't want the exact truth put out there.

Did you know, although it is extremely rare, you can die from a blood transfusion, the very thing that is suppose to make you survive whatever surgery or issue you are having. The medical community will never say this patient died from a "Blood Transfusion"; instead they will say they "died from complications" of whatever they were trying to treat.

It's very deceptive and it goes on more than we know, how many times have people put COVID on the death certificate but if they didn't have other major health issues they would have survived. I wish the reporting would be more truthful, a simple statement like this.

"Covid exposed an underlying heart condition made worse by the reactions of taking steroids with that"

Instead of

"He died 100% from Covid"

We can be more truthful in the way we report peoples true causes of death, but if we did, more more people would probably be getting sued.

"Died from complications"

The flu doesn't kill people, complications from the flu is what kills people.
Diabetes doesn't kill people, complications from Diabetes is what kills people.
Women don't die from pregnancy, it's sepsis, kidney failure, heart failure that kills them.
Cancer doesn't kill people, it's the complications from Cancer that kill people.

If you have heart problems, especially congestive heart failure, Covid sure is not going to do you any favors. He may have survived if he did not have those heart problems. So I cannot see them saying covid killed him, but it did increase the risk of death a bit.

Semantics, take the example of Sepsis or blood poisoning, you get a small cut or scrape on the foot, maybe only spill a few drops of blood, normally it's not an issue the body heals 100's of small cuts on our bodies in our lifetime. But one time it doesn't, something gets in there and we have a really bad time with blood poisoning. This time a person dies from that, they didn't die from a tiny cut they died from Sepsis, there were no complications.

COVID is the cut.

How much more forthcoming? said he died of a heart attack ffs.

So he didn't die from Covid?

Article claims he died from Covid. Then you read it says he died of a heart attack. They allude that he had surgery related to Covid which is what precipitated the heart attack.

My question is what covid complications require surgery?

Death from surgery is always a possibility, covid or not.

Yes, in any surgery there is some risk. The only thing I can think of surgery wise relating to covid, would be blood clots.

Since he was Congressman-elect and not sworn in, what happens to his seat?

Will Louisiana hold another election or will the next Congressman instead be selected?

I look at it this way. If you don't believe that covid 19 is real don't wear a mask, but if you should get it don't go to the hospital. After all it's all fake. Stay home and reap your rewards.

Likewise, if you have supported business closures and the joblessness that goes with it...then you should not get any stimulus money. Stay home and reap no rewards other than a sense of security.
