Interesting that poster mentions the date 1970. I was informed by some Britons I knew that the 1970s were a period of serious social conflict in the U.K.

I had heard about the miners' strikes, Scargill, and all that. But apparently it was a very serious situation and there were plans for martial law if necessary.
