BTW...I disagree completely with 'hopenotfear's conclusions above, but I'll just save that for another day, in another life.

Just to be clear, that wasn't a conclusion I was just postulating the idea, which Is why i stated an argument can be made, but as we know correlation doesn't equal causation.

Thanks for the invite.

I was able to get into the room and see the chat as username "Arby", but it said I needed to claim the account to post messages.

My first attempt to enter an e-mail address and password returned errors that the e-mail was invalid and the password was too weak.

So then I tried a different e-mail and stronger password, clicked "claim account", and three dots appeared where the "claim account" button was to show it was processing the request. Then the "claim account" button re-appeared, this time with no errors noted like before, but somehow it didn't complete the process because when I return to the room it still says I have to claim the account to post messages. I tried 10 more times, no luck.

I saw your "welcome Arby" message so I thought I'd tell you what happened here since I was unable to reply there.

Its almost as if that graph provides evidence of the effect trump has on the population, his manner of speaking winds people up and it plays out in the pit.

That graph speaks volumes.

First post in over a decade. Wow. Old hand here. Seen the ups and downs. Serpo. Remember that?

Everybody who has come here and stayed knows this place is special. It comes from simpler times though and the world has moved on so, so much since Simon, Bill & co. first put pegs in the ground and fought to make a forum where ANY voice was welcome as long as it was civil.

Look at the fall of breaking news in that graph. Time was, any news article I read, next stop was ATS to get the 20 other angles on that story. From many points the truth would always shine through. What happened? Where did that go? Drowned in the sea of so many other clickbaity things perhaps? Outshone by well produced podcasts and videos which are more easily digestible?

Look at the core topics we loved ATS for. Aliens, strange beasts, ghosts. Every video I saw on Youtube, I was straight over to ATS after to see how long it would take one of the resident debunkers take it to pieces! The fun! The analysis! The camaraderie! Everybody is gone now. The content is no longer there.

I don't think it was politics killed us. I've been here through 3 administrations now, and while the current one draws ire the like I have never seen (and I suspect there is a conspiracy behind that - if only people would stop spitting in each other's faces long enough to look - and had a forum to do it in.....oh well....) - there was always fiery but respectful debate.

I think the problem is the old girl is a relic of a different age. Time has moved on. We had a monopoly on the conspiracy, weirdness, mystery and the unknown. Back in the early noughties there was few to compete with us. We even had a hearty podcast section before podcasting was even a big thing!! However, somehow the world has evolved around us.

Come read a thread here on a topic or watch a slick video produced on Youtube?
Wade through some awful tripe in the forums to get to that gem or listen to a podcast?

Folks, forums are dead. ATS was a mighty beast in her time. Time to move on. Time to evolve.
Backup the forums somewhere, post a link a memorial page with the domain name and leave it as a memorial to times past.

I agree with you, it seems ats is now all but a relic. I had missed the serpo stuff and you have provided me with quite a bit of reading so thanks for that.

A lot of people here seem awful eager to put the knife in and call it a day.

Nope, I'm saying "Evolve - or die"

I used to love watching movies on VHS. Watch them online now. Still love movies.
There are reams of great info on ATS. Note SO noting the big events over the last few years above. Many ears pricked up wanting to know more. The info here is great. Perhaps it could be packaged and consumed in a different way? Especially in a way that doesn't cost $25,000 a month? Maybe in a way that generates that much a month?

I'm saying shelve the info and data for now, cut costs, come back stronger in a different format, bring on people in a sustainable way on a sustainable platform. Park the forums. They're dead weight at the minute.

Too harsh?

Personally I still think long forum threads are really the perfect vehicle for sharing information and discussing topics.

Social Media is just not designed for any kind of nuanced back and forth or detailed responses.

And I have been pleasantly surprised by the restraint, transparency and fairness of the mod staff here over the years.

In my reality, I moved on years ago with making friends on here and moving to Facebook after bans and reconnecting and sharing. Even married one of my friends from here.

I spend my days reading many different sites , news and sources, cutting up with my friends on FB and playing games.

ATS opened my eyes to the hidden world, but it lead me back to a real life and a better understanding of the world around me.

I appreciate my real world so much more because of ATS.

But the world is not the same as it was 10 years ago.

Things change ever constantly, we just have to adapt without giving to much of ourselves away in the process.

Yep, things have changed.
All we got nowadays is the Epstein suicide conspiracy, and I don't think anyone wants to argue that one.

This truly sucks. I've enjoyed my time here so much. 10+ years and now suddenly it's ending. I mean surely it can't be that hard to start another forum. I enjoy the debates and bloodsports.... not sure where else I'd go after this.

Quite a few from here have gone over rogue nation 3, if you want to continue debating it may work for you.

Well, here's one.

It was discovered, today, that Ghislaine Maxwell was a longtime Redditor, curating content in several popular Subreddits under the username MaxwellHill. Senior ownership/management of Reddit gave her this control for over 10 years.

The account was active right up until her arrest and has been silent since. Her account was an ardent pedophilia apologist and even argued for the legalization of child porn. Since this became public, someone has bee scrubbing the account's posting history... and banning users commenting about it.

The real reason "they" want ATS shut down. Lol
