So this virus sucks but the fact remains we all are going to have to deal with it on way or another.

We all typically looks at this kind of thing from our own perspective lens and I have read many of us are frustrated about the family and friends perspective.

"your overreacting"
"what is that"
The list goes on.

Personally my girlfriend responds to everything with a "what the source" or "the source is whacked" blah blah blah.

Just looking for tips on how to inform those we love and care about to take this thing seriously?

Depends who you're talking to.

Some people simply lack the intellectual capacity to entertain a 'what if' scenario. Others can accept that things aren't always as they seem.

Take this site, a lot of the members adhere to a rigidly mainstream view of things and shun the supernatural. They're worldly people with a mindset that everything fits into a neat box. Others aren't and actually dare mention a 'shock' conspiracy.

Ncov 19 is one of, if not the biggest, conspiracies in years. NOTHING about the official narrative adds up, nothing.

Its airborne yet not that contagious (says the MSM)
It kills healthy doctors and middle aged people (yet only kills the old).
The death toll is about 2000 (yet there crematorium working 24 hours a day seven days and now there are MOBILE crematorium's)
It's just a common flu (yet China is spending BILLILONS of dollars on people they dont care about, and, apparently, spraying the streets with bleach for a laugh).
The doctor who warned about the virus was applauded (Oh, wait, no, he was forced to admit to being a slanderer and liar by a repressive regime).
The cases are dropping off (no, they're not, people are now qurantined and so will now die in their homes, unreported) ......

This whole thing STINKS. All of it. The MSM is now playing this down and economies actually ROSE!!!! Were living in insanity here. Denial everywhere.

Going to take a few close people dropping or no openings at the doctors to open eyes imho.
Once the fear kicks in it's contagious

Prepare in silence get what you think you may need, and when you need it they will be glad you did. I got a big box in our garage and slowly add to it. If we need it well that's what it is for, if not it's packed up until we may need it. Don't care to discuss it or have her discuss it with friends or family. Personally think we got less than a 10% chance it getting bad but why risk it get what you may need for a few weeks. I sleep better knowing I'm a little prepared, I got people that I will have to help no doubt.

It will run its course just like any other virulent strain that has emerged or managed to jump the species barrier to humans.

But it's not "The Stand" material.

Worst estimates place the mortality rate at 4%, probably more like 2%, which is around the mortality rate for any other flu-like ailment where old, infirm, infant or immune system compromised persons are concerned.

You can't with some people.
Try as you may, some people will either stay in denial or completely ignore the facts until they hit them smack dab in the face.
Present them with figures, statements, official requests for citizens to prepare, show them maps. show the statements from doctors - ranging from most pessimistic to most optimistic. Show various sources - try to keep the reputable (whatever the word means) ones, but add some conspirational ones into the mix as well.
That's all you can do IMHO. If somebody doesn't want to believe, they will not believe.
I've been that road many times. People in denial. Dying people in denial. Deny, deny, deny. It's not happening, it's a lie, it's all fake, it's overreacting, etc.
Unfortunately = or fortunately - that's the price of freedom - you cannot force people to believe. It hurts in some situations, but that's the truth.

It will run its course

I agree, the only problem we face now is what numbers we'll end up with once the last victory lap of the virus is complete. Or maybe it will become another strain to haunt people during flu season. Nevertheless, staying completely ind enial is IMO not the best course of action.

Well if 60% get it at 2% mortality
that's still 96 million
not exactly a low number
96000000
bound to raise eyebrows

I imagine if it got that bad it would indeed raise the odd eyebrow, for about 2 seconds, till "Love Island" or "Dancing On Ice" come on.

Not to worry, Brother. Best you can do is prepare for this one. Make sure you've got ... say ... 45 days worth of food in your house in case you're forced to self-quarantine. This is probably as prepared as you can be. Stuff that'll ease you through is worth considering (aspirin, cough syrup, etc).

I think you're gonna get it if it comes your way. Best you can do is be prepared to cope with being flat on your back for a few days. It's only killing like 2% of us on this pass. Way too early to be concerned with knocking sense into people's heads.

Have to say even though Im expecting the worse because it is not in my neck of the woods I have not gone full prepper....yet!

Have my leftover from Ebola scare for protection and added bleach, gloves, and cleaning supplies.

Im divorced and the ex and I have a 13 yr old daughter so trying to get her to get on board is a lost cause. live with my chic we actually havent got in fights cause I even bring it up.

What would be cool is a clif notes version including sources where the skeptics could read in 15 min and see what the heck is really going on.

Any takers for completing said dossier?

I focused on possible interruptions in supply for medicine and got some people paying attention, then touched on people in Italy said it was just a Chinese problem and now they have some issues.

dont point out how fast it can spread or any of that sort cause people shut down because nobody now a days wants to admit an outbreak can still occur.

I'm not sure exactly how you're defining "skeptic" here... but perhaps I qualify. I have a healthy respect for the CV, but I'm not going to freak out about it either. I already take reasonable precautions for reasonable risks. And I'm as prepared as I can be to nurse and nurture my health should I catch any type virus.

My gas tank is full. I have enough food to last a few weeks if necessary. I do need lemons though... and I could stock up on dog and cat food...

What do you think I need to know that I don't already?

I don't think my own husband really realizes how bad this is even though I keep telling him. He has a conference to go to in Seattle next weekend so he's set to get onto a plane to a major city, stay in a hotel, then be in a room with 1000's of people from all over the US. He's flying out early to hang with one of his best friends and they will go out 2 nights in a row and party it up like they are still in college (my husband is 50) because that's what they do once a year..... He'll be in several Uber's..... Unless they cancel the conference before Thursday he's not really that concerned. Here he is typically not around a lot of people. He mostly works from home and we don't go out much. Our typical lifestyle is pretty "safe" and we live in a city that is very sprawled out so him leaving for Seattle next week has me very uncomfortable. He'll be gone for 5 days and this thing is really taking off so who knows what could happen.

In the real world their are multiple perspectives.

Right now , those that are more prone to this being doom porn vs those that see it as no less impact then the flu don't have the facts or info to really claim victory one way or the other.

All you can do is inform those you want to and let them decide from there realizing that disagreeing with your perspective doesn't make someone right or wrong but just different.

CDC puts influenza at 2 deaths in 100,000.

Edit* actually this is just population related not per infected
