If I was an alien, I'd find the Miss Universe competition so offensive, because there are no proven aliens in that competition, and how do we know what tastes across the universe are?

I'm not complaining about any models or judges or whatever.

I'm merely concerned about human jingoism and arrogance of calling a competition "Miss Universe" (when we know this refers to space much wider than earth).

Humans live in one Universe, so it is not wrong to call this: Miss Universe

Only humans live in this universe?

Is that proven?

If not, that's just inconsiderate.

No, it is not inconsiderate at all.
We humans are only known to live in the one and only universe to support humans such as us.
And that my ATS friend is a fact as of New Year's Day 2020 or what ever year your country is in. Here it is year 2 of the Japanese Calendar.

It's like we have already colonized that space with our likes and dislikes.

Just this time it won't be the wind and the sea.

Why not be honest and call it the Miss Humanoid Earthlings of the Universe Competition?

My approach to get the aliens to trust us is to give them rights before we have proof.

So maybe we shouldn't refer to the "universe", before we have universal rights.

So far, the only legalities we have about contact with aliens is negative.
They don't exist, and you shouldn't have relations with one, not even a neighborly chat about sun-flares.

Let's just say our social and political arms are not exactly open.

Not yet.

Do you think if we open our arms more they (extra-terrestrials/aliens) will openly come?

I think we're at a stage where alien visitors would come if they had full legal protection and enshrined civil rights.

The only farce here is how rude all the alien species are being by not allowing their citizens to compete.

uhhh.... excuse me, but I'm pretty sure no aliens refer to themselves as "miss". Perhaps glig-glork of the universe is more their speed.

Which would be why they haven't bothered to submit an entry of their own, and given I have never seen a lumdeck assume the title of miss, nor attempt to win the pageant, I am pretty sure they don't care. Otherwise we would know all about it, and it would certainly make worldwide news!

Well, it's only like the Yanks calling the baseball "The World Series" when there's only them in it.

I bet half the universe thinks this slug is good looking.

www.youtube.com...

Well, it's all relative.

Actually they call it a "sea hare".

On earth humans are ugly and icky, but phwoar, you should see their sea-hares!

What makes humans think aliens come to talk to us?

I find her lack of tentacles and primitive eyes to be most dissatisfying.

I demand more of a brood-mother.

Can you imagine a beauty pageant with this as a contestant?

Or this?

Or this?

But did you know, according to evolution the sea-hare and the human being share a common ancestor somewhere?

Don't ask me what it looked like, but it existed.

My trainer says: "You're like Sheldon Cooper, you over-think everything".

I'm thinking, who on earth is that?

Is that a big intellectual?
