Turkey has agreed to a ceasefire in Syria, provided Kurdish fighters withdraw from a 32km ‘safe zone’ on the border between the two countries.
US Vice President Mike Pence made the announcement following talks with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.
He said US forces had already begun to facilitate the safe withdrawal of Kurdish troops from the area.
He said Turkey has agreed to engage in no military action against people living in the city of Kobani just south of the Turkish border.
“The President made it clear that we're not going to have military personnel on the ground, but the United States will continue to engage diplomatically, politically and, of course, in humanitarian aid and support to effect all of the people affected in this region,” Pence said.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said the reached agreement between the US and Turkey to suspend military operations in Syria is not a ceasefire.
" "This is not a ceasefire," Cavusoglu said during a televised news conference today."
“We will pause the operation for 120 hours in order for the terrorists to leave,” Cavusoglu said. "We will only stop the operation if our conditions are met.”

I always understood it the troops were leaving northern Syria but still serving their role as advisors in other areas of the country.
I think people ran with the "withdrawing from Syria", though to my knowledge, that was never the official narrative.

Pence steps up to the plate and manages to negotiate a 5 day cease fire. Very good news, hopefully we can use those 5 days to regain some balance and do some damage control.
Seems like Pence is showing people that he CAN do the job of the president, and that he is the real negotiating force behind this administration.
Not a fan of Pence, but credit where it's due. This gives us some breathing room.
One question remains: where are the 1,000 US troops that have been removed from Syria. Last count of US forces on the ground was 28, which means at least 972 of our forces have left Syria.
Where are they?
As far as I know, no left or right media outlet, nor the propaganda media sites, absolutely nobody has posted a video of US troops coming home, arriving to their families as we usually see.
Where are they if they are not in Syria?
