I haven't kept up on that but if that's true regarding the Carrier absence than something very weird out of the norm was going on. I spent a few years in the PG and it always had at least one carrier on station along with it's respective battlegroup for decades. Most of the time a carrier is masked from radar. The ship I was on had radar cloaking device to hide the carrier and make 'us' look like a carrier (target) as a safeguarding measure.
