Hi. I see many people debating about the new Mexico's president and I just want to share my point of view.
I see a lot of people terribly mistaken and the way they think about Mexico, which is sad. They are misinformed, they only repeat and believe what they hear from the media that wants to make this guy look bad. But people that actually live, lived or were raised in Mexico know what is going on right now.
I am XBWOMPX 's wife. I am Mexican. I was raised and lived my whole life in Mexico until I moved to the US two years ago.

I have been watching and following Mexico's elections closely every day. I am so very happy that we actually have this new guy as a president. All Mexico is happy that he won, the only people that are mad is the people that work for the corrupted party (PRI, PAN), people that were waiting for an opportunity to get a position in the government if their party (PRI, PAN) won; sons, daughters, cousins, and relatives of the same people that are corrupted that are already in office, working for the city mayor, important companies like Mexican Oils (PEMEX). Mexico's politics is like a monarchy; is a regimen; the same political party (PRI) has governed for 88 years, so nobody but them (PRI) are the responsible ones for what it is today's Mexico. They always cheat and commit fraud on every single election because they just cant have enough, they want to keep sucking from the people and the country. Enrique Peña Nieto, our current president, was Governor of the State of Mexico before becoming president; his uncle was Governor of the State of Mexico also, today's Governor of the State of Mexico is now Enrique Peña Nieto's cousin. Do you see how they just switch places and power so everything ends up in the family? Well, the same happens in every single state and city in all the country. By the way, Alfredo del Mazo (president's cousin), current Governor of the State of Mexico, committed fraud too, everybody knows that he did not win the elections for Governor, the corrupted party imposed him because that's how they play. In Mexico, is very very important to win the elections for Governor of the State of Mexico because in that State is where all the money and all the parties are concentrated, so, if you get control of that State, is easier to commit fraud on the Presidential elections because you have control on all the money, just absolutely everything. Nevertheless, they couldn't this time. For once in a lifetime, this terrible regimen has fallen down and we're all super happy about this. I invite everybody to read more about this guy: Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
His projects are based on: corruption, economy, education, health care, better wages and salaries, getting back our natural resources, infrastructure, lowering costs to name a few.
All Mexico has faith in him because he has never been proven a single act of corruption since he started in the politics. PRI and PAN tried to play dirty on him making stuff up about him and lying to the people so we don't vote for him, feel hopeless, etc. This good guy ran for president the last 2 campaigns and he won them both, but the corrupted party stole it twice in a row. Andres Manuel is not a threat to Mexico, he is a threat to them because they know that he really wants to clean the country from corruption, he cares about the people, wants to build a good country for the citizens, he wants to industrialize the country and have a better economy so people dont have the need to migrate to foreign countries, etc. PRI and PAN started to making phone calls on the people and families to scare them out saying that he will turn Mexico into Venezuela, that he is a populist, that the country would just literally go down if he gets in office. But, how worse can it gets than what it already is??? They've been in office for 88 years and today's situation is all their fault. Obviously, they're not doing a good job. Mexico and the people wanted a real chance.

The government doesnt want a country with educated people, with infrastructure, a prosperous country because is not convenient for them. They want a poor country with ignorant people, poverty more and more everyday everywhere because thats how they can control. When there is poverty and ignorance where people dont even have money for internet to watch news about what is really going on, get education, study to stop being an ignorant, they can buy your vote for 15 dlls because people are desperate to provide for their families, and this is how they control and manipulate the people. But when you are not an ignorant, get informed, you cant easily be manipulated. They were giving distilled water to patients with cancer on the chemotherapy because they were pocketing the money; they didnt want to spend. The president has one of the most expensive presidential airplanes in the world but the country and the people are broke. This is how ridiculous this shameless government is.

This guy is not going to turn Mexico into Venezuela, he is not protected by the mafia, he is not inviting people to flood the borders and cross to the US, etc , etc; we dont believe that anymore. He wants good things for Mexico and its people. He already started to working on it. All these years have been enough to realize that PRI and PAN are the real enemies of the country and the people. They sold our natural resources to other countries and pocketed the money, They privatized every single resource in Mexico like water and pocketed the money, the beaches, our gold, our oil, etc. It's not easy to chance 88 years of corruption in 6 years but we gotta start somewhere and we will see it soon. Good things are coming for Mexico, is like a new era to us. We have written history in Mexico. This regimen had us eating breadcrumbs and I honestly believed that I would never ever be able to see this party break apart. But it happened.

I wish Mexico good luck and a brighter future. If the guy is half as good as you say I hope he does not get killed and can hang around long enough to make meaningful changes for the better.

Ask your wife, Mexico is corrupt and will never change.

Mexico is the one place I would be for military action, but when the CIA is in good standing with the cartels, I don't see any change anytime soon.

It's too easy in Mexico at the moment.

I mean this is just not an intelligent statement. It's like saying America isn't corrupt and will never change. Or water is a liquid and therefore can never be a solid.

Things change. Nations change. America was once an untamed land filled with savage hippies. Now it's a parking lot filled with uneducated zombies. You do the people of Mexico a great disservice by saying things like this.

By the sounds of it, he is Trump the 2nd. I mean that in a good way. But look at all the trouble Trump is having trying to do good and make good on his promises. I wish the Mexican President much success.

It sounds almost like the populist movement has reached Mexico. I hope so. The good people there deserve prosperity and happiness.

My nephew just recently married a girl from Mexico. At her wedding (and my mother's funeral) I got to know her a little and met her parents. She is as sweet as she can be, bubbly, vivacious, and apparently she is making my cousin very happy. Her parents... well, they are from Mexico City as I understand it, but they live and work (legally) in the US. They are proud to be Mexican, as is proper, but happy to be here and away from the corruption in their country. They are hardworking, hard-playing, jovial, compassionate people who I am proud to call part of my extended family.

I have a cousin by marriage who is from the Cancun area... he is half Mexican and half Mayan. He is a joy to be around, and one of the smartest people I have ever known. He retired from NASA as a lead engineer recently.

These are good people who deserve better. And better for them means better for us! MAGA is better accomplished by helping make Mexico great as well.

If this new President can pull off what it sounds like he wants to pull off, I am sure our government would stand by, ready, willing, and able, to help out however we can. I know I will be pulling for that to happen. I want to see the day when the Mexican people are as prosperous as the US people and we don't need no stinkin' wall. Maybe it can remind us of how far we have come when that day arrives.

Thank you, OP, for posting this inside look at a country we the people rarely ever get to see in a real light.

Oh, and Viva la Mexico! (I hope I said that right)

A Mexican, in the US? Wasn't your life ripped apart and your children, family, stolen from you? Surely the racist Trump has deemed you some sort of terrorist?

I have a hard time believing you OP. Speaking from the left side of my brain, that is.

... on topic!
He does sound like Trump #2. Popular for those that see there is a need for change, but hated by those who want the status quo, or think change is too hard. From the other side of the pond, hoping good things are ahead for the people of Mexico.

No They don't.

No one "runs Mexico"

There are only ever competing interests, not a cohesive cause.

Hello y'all, this is xbwompx. My wife wrote that last night, she wanted to just the fact she read what everybody was saying about mexico in previous forums and kept rolling her eyes. Everybody should know that our media is corrupt and so is theres so it's really hard to confirm what is real and what is not. I honestly would have thought differently about Mexico if I had never met my wife. I doubt this guy is socialist either, the way he wants things in mexico is far from socialist. He's not trying to create public welfare sectors, he's trying to help the common citizen rise and make a better business and money. Socialism is about big government and controlling everything. He's about power to the people and the people controlling everything. He even said he would step down half way through his term if the people were not happy, he said he will do what the people of mexico wants. If he actually does do it that way then he is FAR from socialist like everybody has been saying. But I am about as sure as everybody else here, it's unknown of mexico's future, but for once, somewhere in this world I would like to see just one country make it out of corruption, Mexico would be nice to travel through with my wife so I have hopes for its future. But like I said, we will see!

NO, no family torn apart, her dad got his citizenship to the USA through his work, he's a truck driver, but he prefers to live in mexico he just likes the green back like any other mexican. But anyways, my wifes parents had there children in America so I guess they are anchor baby's. But everyone in her family lives in mexico except for her brother. My wife says she wants to move back but we are living in Ks. We just got back from Brownsville Texas a few days ago, Nobody in her family can speak English but my wife and her sister but they are very nice people! Anyways People have it all wrong on the immigration going on, I would say but it doesn't matter, people on here are bent on believing ICE and Trump is out to destroy families and eat babies I guess. My wife went through elementary, middle and highschool in mexico and attended college in the USA for translating and interpreting while living in metemoros mexico, she knows 4 languages and now wants to be a Spanish teacher in the states. I think she would be great at it, she is very sweet, soft, and very very patient. I am a lucky man, she cooks like my grandma, she keeps our home nice, she's honest and faithful. But as soon as our house is paid off I promised her we will move down by Brownsville. I like it down there, it's warm, no snow, the Ocean is 30 minutes away, i'll take it!

Hoping for the best for Mexico but Obrador will have his hands full. I spent a lot of time in Mexico and met some wealthy Mexican banking family members who own a ranch here in Texas.

Correct me if I am wrong but it seems to me that Mexico is basically run like the last Colony of Spain, ruled over and administered by an Oligarchy of Spanish Elites who own half or more of the country and have been strip mining it for generations all the while sending their kids to Spain, the UK or the US for college and then having them return to Mexico to take up the family business. Its really rather weird and archaic. And I dont see how Obrador is going to break their grip unless of course they just give up and go home to other countries where they have stashed their wealth.

Good luck Mexico.

I guess I'm a "reverse immigrant." My wife and I are legal permanant residents in Mexico (US born gringos) and hope to obtain citizenship in a few years.

We love Mexico. We love life here. I'm watching this guy and thinking that the crap I hear about him p probably comes from the same place as the crap I hear about Donald Trump. I don't think either of them is a savior, they are fallible men, they have self-interests; but I do believe their elections mark a shift in public sentiment and I hope that they can get on the same page and do the right thing working together

I heard an old saying once: When the water in the harbor rises, so do all the ships.

My hope is that they can work out ways that both neighboring countries can benefit.

Do heroes exist that are able to change the fate of an entire nation? Even if in some bizarro world, would that be desired?

Outside of fantasy and comic books, heroes can inspire but seldom change the course of the people. As it should be. It should be the people themselves that force change. They should develop a new ideology and way of life to change their own system. They should find a way over the power of material and corruption (selling your soul) that will have a lasting impact.

What happens when this hero is gone? Will everything just go back to business as usual? If the populace doesn't change, I have a feeling it will.

Heros are their tool against us. To keep us lazy. To keep us inactive, sitting back while pretending someone else is going to do the heavy lifting. I am starting to realize this reality isn't that easy or unfair. As it should be.

It is always up to the people, that's why Americas forefathers warned us that our leadership must be replaced every other generation by the blood of tyrants and patriots.

I completely agree. We are far far from those wise words in today's age, aren't we? We instead elevate up the few (heros) and pretend they are going to change our fate. A simple view of our political landscape here in the states should be a great example when we bet our future and prosperity on heros.

We are getting exactly what we deserve, as is mexico I suspect.

I find it more telling that he didnt address the Cartels, the Drug running, smuggling, and trafficking. That alone is a HUGE reason for the issues, poverty and corruption in Mexico.

Whats he plan to do about that? Platitudes are great and all, but what about actually tackling the source ?
