In January of 2017, psychologist John Gartner started a petition titled “Mental Health Professionals Declare Trump is Mentally Ill and Must be Removed”. 26,000 psychologists, psychiatrists, and other mental-health professionals signed the petition. Deviating from the ethics of their craft, exactly zero of them subjected the president to any clinical examination.

In a letter to the New York Times, 33 prominent psychologists felt the need to voice their concerns regarding the “grave emotional instability indicated by Mr. Trump’s speech and actions”, which in their opinion, “makes him incapable of serving safely as president”. Zero of these mental health professionals subjected the president to any clinical examination.

Yale psychiatrist Bandy Lee (who, unsurprisingly, wrote an opinion piece for the New York Times about Trump) edited a book of essays called The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump, wherein 27 mental health professionals argued that, due to their supposed examination of Donald Trump’s mental health, he was an existential threat to not only the country, but even to the human species. They concluded that “anyone as mentally unstable as Mr. Trump simply should not be entrusted with the life-and-death powers of the presidency”. Dr. lee issued her findings to members of Congress. Zero of them subjected Trump to clinical examination.

In January 2018, Whitehouse physician Dr. Ronny Jackson gave Trump a 4-hour physical examination, and as a result, a clean bill of both mental and physical health. Perhaps to prove a point, Trump himself asked for a mental test. He aced it. According to Jackson, president Trump was indeed “fit to serve”.

Dr. Ronny Jackson’s examination of President Trump’s cognitive ability, physical health, and fitness for the presidency was the exact opposite of what the mental health professionals diagnosed from afar. What explains this massive disparity? Were they misguided or misinformed? In the absence of a clinical examination, in the absence of a patient, what did the mental health professionals use as their evidence?

Lance Dodes M.D., the doctor who penned the letter to the NYT, mentions that “as mental health professionals”, him and the 32 other doctors share the concerns expressed by NYT columnist Charles Blow, going so far as to reference Blow’s op-ed in the first sentence of the letter. When Dodes appeared on the MSNBC show “The Last word” to discuss the topic of president Trump’s mental health, host Lawrence O’Donnell asked him to comment on a small, quote-mined clip of Trump being hyperbolic at a debate, which he then used as evidence to support his impromptu diagnosis. He didn’t ask to see more evidence.

As for the writers of The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump, these doctors seem to utilize as their evidence the quote-mined phrases and tweets made sensational by the press, but not much else. Whether it’s his over-reported remarks on Mexicans, his “birtherism”, his remarks about Rosie O’Donnel, the fake scandal of him mocking a reporter, a few phrases from his books, or his twitter battles with Meryl Streep, their evidence is the same fodder made popular by election reporting, where one out of context, misinterpreted quote plucked from a torrent of speech, could fuel ratings for weeks. The ease with which they leave out the rest reflects exactly the one-sided reporting they took it from—not from friends, family, employees or colleagues who have spent the most time with him—but from a demonstrably negative anti-Trump press. It is no strange wonder, then, that their conclusions resemble the same conclusions of the same journalists. The portrayal of themselves as the protectors of the future, warning us about the next Hitler, was surely an added bonus.

It didn’t last long. A mad, delirious Hitler, complete with narcissism and signs of dementia, never arrived. In retrospect, their warnings resembled that of the boy who cried wolf, liscencing their credibility to sway according to the winds of propaganda. The clinical examination refuted their own.

Their diagnosis wasn’t of any flesh-and-blood Donald Trump, of course, but of the one-sided portrayal and caricature of Trump as it was disseminated by tabloid and public opinion. They went full Hitler, and missed, big league.

If the press could convince mental health professionals in relative positions of authority to make such wrong conclusions, there is no telling where it could lead their readers. Who else? (We know from the texts of Peter Strzok and Lisa page that their Trump ire was often drawn from the pools of their Google News feed).

As for their trusting followers, who still burn Trump in effigy at the drop of any sensational article, it is simply par for the course.

If I could have given your OP 1000 stars and 100 flags I would have.

Very well stated, well written, and it distills the whole "left vs. right" clown show into one post.

AND you used *actual* facts. Amazing...

Bravo!!!

Hate shrinks.

They should lay off their own stash.

They are only saying that so their snowflake patients won't beat them to death in their own office.

It sounds like 'someone' doesn't favor Trump in a position of power. Not Surprising.

I wonder how many of these "professionals" stating that Trump is unfit to serve also claim that parents who dont allow their children to be brainwashed by LGBT propaganda or who deny them hormone blockers are unfit parents?
I dont trust psychologists or psychiatrists 1 bit, its pseudo science at best and at worst is just a way of medicating the masses for non existent ills

Academia and the press have gone waaaaay past full retard and completely busted out the other side into god knows what

Psycho professionals are the biggest pack, highest per capita diabolical madmen as can be found anywhere. Typical with their crowd is an opinion that essentially everybody has "mental illness" (which happens to "require" pharmaceutical psychotropics [for life]). To them everything from sleep disorders, emotional responses to the crap life throws at you, being unusual or even exceptional, non-conformity, and so on are all "mental illnesses'.

This is the scene where people entering the field of medicine, whom happen to get off on arbitrarily locking people up, go to daily stoke their egos by telling everyone else they have this "mental illness" phantom that "requires" their services (not unlike the Scientologists and their Thetans) which generally comes in the form said mad science pills. The thing they keep telling everyone from their authority positions is that the drugs are to 'correct chemical imbalances', which cannot be measured or anything like that.

Children under the age of 10 are routinely prescribed said mad science pills daily from their henchmen. All too often this "diagnosis" and cookie cutter "treatment" comes in less than maybe 15 minutes of talking to one parent.

Perhaps no other profession, outside of certain specific areas of warmongering, has as dark and consistent across its entire history the worst in their general treatment of humans, quack procedures & methods, across the board ethics, and so on.

Damn straight, my friend.

As insane as Tom Cruise is, I'm gonna side with Scientology and their views about psychology and psychiatry. At least in principle.

Seems to be about as "Scientific" as alchemy.

What's crazy is they're so right to bring up the history of Psychiatry. But then they sell it back to people in other 'terms' and with a dash of religious stuff (the opiate for the masses). They get off on looking people up too. And echo chambers make them hawt.

That is a GREAT post. I don't think anyone could've nailed it better.

The weak-minded can be easily influenced AND controlled.

While I have a slightly better opinion of the profession than some in this thread, those "doctors" are not doing their profession any favors by making these declarations this way.

It's a shame there isn't a list of the "doctors" who signed this petition. It would be good to know who they are, so no unsuspecting patients put their trust in a doctor who thinks they can diagnose a twitter feed.

Stars and flags will not do this op true justice.
You sir are to ATS at this critical time in history what C.S. Lewis was to the world after the war.
Your use of language and sense of important details lying under the surface is razor sharp and poignant.
Just like Lewis you never have to use big words to illucidate your points speaking every word to all of us.
Just like Lewis you have this ability to put into words what most of us are thinking. Just as he did in trying to make sense of so much death and carnage witnessed by the whole world, you capture the things we all feel in these times of universal systemic corruption.

This topic right here is the most important topic of our time, imo.
This pseudo-science scares me to my core as this leviathon has the ability to consume all it desires with a simple addition to a book declaring what is and is not mental illness. No real tests needed, just a consensus of editors.

Glad to see this called out.

Diagnosing someone remotely and without their consent is 100% against the profession's standards of ethics. And obviously such DX shouldn't be taken seriously, since they can't possibly be accurate.

ALL of these are political driven... since no true psychologist would attempt such an asinine Diag.

Very good post.
Now are the psychologist really being convinced by the media or are they just a bunch of Marxists that adhere to the Frankfurt School of thought and were indoctrinated long before Trump came along, those who will just label anyone that threatens their political ideals with a "Mentally Ill" badge.
I personally believe that they know very well that their diagnostic is bunk and would not hold up as evidence of anything and that they themselves do not believe in what they are saying, but as some will say "By Any Means Necessary"

These very psychologists will be given power in the future. This is the modus operandi of the communist regimes. This is how they will diagnose and throw good upstanding Constitutionalists into dark dungeons and silence their voices. This is just the beginning all. Hang onto your boot straps as the deep state continues its assault on humanity.
