What lawyer in their right mind wouldn't pay their client's alleged mistress a few hundred thousand for no particular reason (as a "gift") a few days before an election? That's just being a nice person, not using money to sway public opinion before an election! The premise that she was on illicit drugs would be completely inadmissible, without corroborating evidence to back it up, such as a toxicology report, police report, extreme behaviour witnessed ..etc. None of that took place. Besides which, even if she was(unprovable) it doesn't really change the facts of said case, the lawyer has admitted giving her the $$..for what

If the payoff wasn't to cover up something illegal, then the payoff itself wasn't illegal, either. Of course it was intended to ensure a bombshell wasn't dropped days before the election... so what? Politics is not transparent, never has been, but the question "was it illegal?" is really the only one that matters.

I do find it fascinating that the same pundits who are taking this "OMG, it swayed the election by keeping a story out of the news, how horrendous!!!" stance are the same ones who flipped their snip over James Comey almost doing his job for once and sending a letter to Congress regarding the discovery of new Clinton emails 2 weeks prior to the election. That was actual, honest-to-God investigative action in a criminal probe, yet so many Clinton supporters screamed and hollered about it coming out immediately prior to the election...

Consistency matters.

I'll also say this much, so far this Stormy thing goes it doesn't seem to be having anywhere near the impact that was intended. In fact, "fart in a windstorm" comes to mind. We'll see where it ultimately goes, but this has all the earmarks of yet another failed attempt to attack Trump's position.
