Wow, listen carefully to the chatter between cops as they discuss how they can charge him with a crime anyway, after taking him down and beating him for driving his own car. They even talk about the fruit of the poisonous tree thinking it would get a case thrown out if they charge him with a crime. Sounds like they know they messed up and are trying to get even with the innocent man for being innocent.

I can't defend this and I'm usually on the cops side. Why the hell they did not immediately release him is beyond reason.

Mostly very good cops I respect fully. This though, this is different.

The video in the OP is not that helpful. The long version is much better and more informative.

Not too long ago a Toronto Cop was seen tying a man's shoes for him...

Touching photo of Toronto police officer tying elderly man's shoelaces sends social media into meltdown

Can you imagine any Cop in the United States doing this?

More likely the U.S. cop is armed to the teeth, dressed almost like a soldier prepared for war, and tells the citizen "stand back" if the citizen gets too close.

Different cops in different parts of the world. They see their job differently.

One is there to help, the other is there to control.

Yeah but usually those people are wrong both in principle and in fact.

He might have gotten his amendments mixed up while he was getting roughed up, but he was right either way.

There is literally no way in hell you can say that it all started after 9/11 and the Patriot Act based on the “reality” TV show Cops, and how they acted in the 80s within the show.

That’s a heavily edited and absolute PR orientated TV programme, and not at all a representation of real life.

Rodney King’s incident was long before 9/11 and the Patriot Act.
& the only rare occurrence about that type of problem was the addition of a video camera.

I don’t want to appear insulting, but damn, it is pretty stupid to base that belief on the basis of very carefully selected footage from the show Cops.

One screams put your hands on your head.

Another screams put your hands on the car.

While another screams get on the ground.

Yes of course I can. I've been helped by cops many times. Far more often than I've had issues with them. People who are constantly having issues tend to leave out the part about how they bring it on themselves.

This is an anomaly and anyone who believes otherwise has never been to the US or are spreading propaganda on purpose.

I'm criticizing only this particular occurrence.

You are aware how many cops are in the US, right? That and the fact that these stories are rare, right? Please don't read falsehoods into my criticism of this one occurrence or pretend more than a small percentage of cops are bad, since they obviously are not.

How many time did I hear the police tell him to get down...and the driver just stood there grinning? He had it coming. He wouldn't have been taken down if he followed orders. His smirk got him in trouble...

For a PhD student he is a flippin idiot. You NEVER get out of your car, unless the tell you.

I used to get pulled over regularly, they claimed back tail light was out, but it was working and I would have loved to show them, but you never get out of the car.
