Why would I make a bug out bag? To carry my house spiders to safety?

I agree... I have a "Get Home Bag". I am a "bug in" person.

We are prepared for an event here, we have food and water and alternative heat and supplies to go for three months of disruption. I built up on a hill, no oceans around here. If a Tornado came through it might trash my house, then we would have to go to a motel or take a trip till the house got rebuilt. Neither the wife or I want to start bugging out, but if I mentioned her going to bug out in Hawaii, she would be packed in two minutes.

You know that Hawaii produces, not a lot of its own anything. Right?
Live on mangoes and papayas? Is that your plan?

I take it you don't know how to fish?

I do, actually. In a variety of ways. Some quite specialized.

It takes some local awareness to be successful at it.

Keep that super spicy specialized talent you got. Maybe you should have mentioned that in your post above?
Are you saying that you can't catch fish in Hawaii or it's just mango fever for you?

I can catch fish. And other things.
The mango and papaya thing was more about coast haole perceptions of what to expect.

Actually I expect pineapples; I bet you did not suspect that?

Though that's what you might expect, that's pretty much defunct.

How so? Are you saying there in no palm trees with pineapples on them in Hawaii?

In that case, you need to replace that filter. It's gummed up.

Idiots abound, being gummed up by them isn't difficult. I'm almost certain there are people who actually think pineapples grow on palm trees.

And that people in Hawaii are Hawaiian and live in grass shacks.

Well, maybe not so many...anymore.

Not my plan, the wife and daughter could go. Hawaii grows MaiTai's and sunshine, they would do all right. I'm staying right here and going fishing and hunting. The wife doesn't care for trout or pike, she only wants whitefish. She does not like venison or partridge or rabbit either. Spaghetti does not grow on trees here.

How about, to carry your own ass to safety and have basic tools for survival when your house gets destroyed or becomes uninhabitable due to whatever disaster strikes it.

Thats the whole point of bug out kits. To have something to fall back on when disaster strikes your home. Which is the whole point of true disaster preparedness. When preparing for disaster, you prepare for everything, including your house and home getting wiped out or having to evacuate it.

Nobody wants to be a refugee, but you should damned well be prepared to be one if you are really covering all your bases.
