I hate those stupid bugs!

My milkweed is growing at a tremendous rate this year and I have been blessed with some monarchs stopping by for some grub.
They reach under the leaves and lay a tiny egg in the bottom side. After a few days the egg hatches and cool looking worms pop out. I wont go through the whole process here.

Anyways, just when I get 5 or 6 good size worms, they disappear. Wth?
Then i dig around a find a fat mantis lurking in the leaves. It's eating my damn butterflies!

This has happened several years in a row so now it's search and destroy time, no mercy....

Rant over....

They are state insect in Connecticut & south carolina. All my milkweeds at the pond died so my hope of ever seeing a monarch has slimmed down some.Sad.

Don't harm the mantis. This is an insect business. You need to stop getting in the middle like we do in Syria.

I thought you were going to post that video of the cowardly mantis that was supposed to buttslam the black widow.

Please don't kill them, I love praying mantises. I understand your reason for hating the mantis for eating your monarchs, as you said, they are cool and rather docile insect that feed on other insects. You can let them crawl in your hand and maybe relocate them to your neighbor's garden or the park?

No to mantis jihad, yes to Mantis force migration.

My very large husband is terrified of a praying mantis. He claims that they "are NOT of this world". He claims they are only on Earth for nefarious purposes.
About a year after we got married I found a dead one on the back porch. It was about 4-5 inches long. I used super glue to attach it to the steering wheel in his truck. Looked like it was just sitting there.....waiting. Him finding that bug at around 4 am nearly made me a widow. Funniest thing I've ever seen was him falling backwards out of that truck while screaming like a little girl.

Somewhere,a few years back there was a video of a mantis capturing a humming bird. I would not have thought that possible if I had not seen it myself.

In some states it's illegal to kill them. You might want to check laws.

I really don't like them either.

Tell that to the male who gets his head eaten off by the female. What all of these MLM folks SHOULD be talking about is the mantis-on-mantis crimes. If you're not, you don't really care about mantis lives.

It's like the Mexican border.
Take them across and they come right back.
