When I was about that age I thought it would be neat to light a large cardboard appliance box on fire in the garage.Luckily mom got it put out before the whole garage went up. When my dad got home the belt came out and my ass went well beyond red into a deep purple. My mom felt so bad for me she never ratted out my shenanigans again.

One day when I was about 8 or so, I got to telling my older brother that I was pretty much grown up. You know the attitude. He tells my Dad, and he calls me into his small man cave where he's working on his CB base station. I strut in there and say, "What's up, Chuck?"

I never saw the slap, but I felt it, and it immediately re-wired my brain. This man is either Sir, Dad, or Father, in that order, and his CB unit number was KBT-6944. Not sure why I memorized his CB number, but I figured better safe than sorry.

Funny how things like that turn out to be good memories after so many decades.

No kidding, right?

My Father would have either laughed or given me a very stern lecture depending on who I flipped off.

I've never shot the bird at my Father figures.

Just folks who think it's funny to blare their horns under underpasses when I'm walking on foot.
