Looks like little Kim is at it again with a new 5.3 mag earthquake near their nuclear test site.

This also coincides with their independence day.He might be pushing his luck just a little to much.

I kinda hope that the blast was an "accident" that blew the whole complex sky high. (without any fallout in neighboring countries) it was at ground level, so it wasn't an underground detonation anyway. however, there is a slight chance it was a genuine quake, since there have been a lot activity around those tectonic plates in the last few weeks, though i doubt that very much.

Any radiation detected? Why are they calling this an "explosion" on the site?

H- bomb or fission?

NK having nukes, possible ICBMs, and stealthy subs is something most Americans are unaware of.

I see it all the time around my area. There are active quarries and despite relatively small explosives being used, they show on the seismometers and are reported as "Quarry Blast". So I'd venture to say, it is being classified as an explosion which registered equivalent to a 5.3 quake on the system.

And I've observed a heighten level of activity at a few bases.

Very little doubt in my mind that NK set off another nuclear weapon.

If it was a hydrogen bomb it was a weak one.

If it was a fission device they are getting better.

What i worry about is it a purely a NK device or are they working with IRAN.

Hitting the MSM now.

From Reuters via MSN:

North Korea suspected to have conducted fifth and largest nuclear test

SEOUL, Sept 9 (Reuters) - North Korea was likely to have conducted its fifth and largest nuclear test on Friday, South Korean officials and analysts said after meteorological agencies reported a surface-level seismic tremor near the North's known test site.
U.S., European and Chinese agencies reported that the tremor was recorded at 0030 GMT. The U.S. Geological Survey and European agencies measured the tremor at a magnitude of 5.3.

They can tell by the wave form that it was an explosion rather than a quake.

TrueAmerican will probably have a record of the wave forms to compare, hopefully he drops in and shows us what he's got.

"Shake, Rattle and Roll"

Most of the tests had them announce it prior to detonation.

Anyone know if they did made an announcement on this one? I'm assuming not as it seems to be a surprise.

No announcement that I am 100% about. I know a few weeks ago SK said it looked like they were preparing another nuke test. If NK did make an announcement about this test then it moat likely happened shortly after their 4th test.
