My thoughts exactly. Seems pretty stupid to go to all that trouble ( im not sure of overall scope, or what it would to take to pull this off back then). Then to use a full on Queen's English accent.

If they were smart they would have used a different language and even a computer voice to throw people off. Who knows, if they had made a few tweaks it may still today be a rerun on "Unsolved Mysteries" .

It matters because if they were serious in hoping to make people think an ET race from light years away was jamming their tv signal to give them a message of enlightenment it seems awfully suspicious that the message is in a full on Queen's English accent.

It was an English TV station transmitting to an English audience. A local hoaxer ( also English) pulled this prank/hoax. they didn't make an effort to hide their accent which was of the local area. Which shows that it is not an enlightened alien from Zeta Retucli but just a local prankster.
