Im a vet as well and everyone one that I know is also voting AGAINST Trump.

Polls seem to disagree with you on that...
morningconsult.com...

The news on Donald Trump and veterans hasn’t been very flattering this week, but recent Morning Consult surveys show that members of the military and their families largely back the presumptive GOP nominee in the race for the White House.

Almost half of veterans and voters who belong to veteran households (47 percent) picked Donald Trump as their presidential nominee in surveys taken from May 13 through May 24. Of the 1,668 military voters polled, only 38 percent support former Secretary of State and first lady Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee. Fourteen percent of military voters remain undecided.

Thanks for posting this. Everything this Marine says echoes resoundingly with me as well...also a former Marine.

Echoes resoundingly with me as an Air Force veteran as well.

You admire ruthless, authoritarian, avowed enemies of the United States?

Thanks for your honesty.

"Enemy of the United States" or avowed enemy of current US policy? There's a world of difference. I really don't care if a foreign country despises the US government because neither I nor my family are the US government. In reality, the argument can be made that Russia in 2016 is more capitalist and free (in some regards) than the USA is.

I'm not going to split hairs with you on Putin or Russian "capitalism" LOL.

The danger that Russia and her Leader pose to American interests on the world stage is one Google away.

Honestly though, between you and me, don't you find it even a tad ironic that so many on the American Right idealize one of the last authentic Soviet Dictators? It makes me smile, even in the worst of times.

I don't understand the point of the thread.

Does there have to be a point? I could list thousands of threads here that don't seem to have a point. I was simply adding content to the site to see what people had to say. Not different from any other thread. This is a discussion site.

I agree completely that his views don't represent those of all veterans. I thought that goes without saying, but I've had to repeat it several times in this thread already.

My only position here is that Vets have opinions and they support (and lambast) politicians from all parties and all backgrounds.

Absolutely.

You posted a letter that Trump does not care about Veterans. That is wrong.

Take it up with the author.

You cannot point me to the author of the article because it was you who chose to post this.

I have pointed to the author several times. I'm sure you could contact him through the Wounded Warrior Project to tell him that his opinion is "wrong", whatever than means. His opinion is neither right or wrong, it's an opinion...

Not sure what you mean by least authentic. The American Right generally gravitates towards basic displays of swagger, prowess, and arrogance when looking for qualified leaders. It also helps that Putin has made enemies out of many of the globalist cabals Conservatives hate like the UN, NATO, the EU, etc.

Personally speaking, I appreciate blunt force over nuanced diplomacy.

"Swagger, prowess and arrogance?" LOL ... odd how you would connect those to qualifications to lead ...

... sounds more like a flamenco dancer to me.

Putin is one of the last Soviet Communists now in power, who was groomed by Boris Yeltsin personally to become Premier.

I still find it humorous that you American Reds so love an old Soviet Red. No offense.

But the author did not post it, you did. Which means you endorse and/or believe in it. This is not a news blog, you are correct, but since you are in a forum you know the rules. Defend your OP as needed.

I would rather have someone who would say he would talk than a current POTUS who says I will have more power after re-election.

Calling John McCain a loser because he was captured as a prisoner of war would have been insulting to other POWs, I would imagine.

McCain being called a loser has zero to do with him being a POW. It has to do with his politics. He's played on it long enough and overstayed his welcome seems the growing consensus on the right. I happen to agree with it.

The author most definitely did "post" it to Huffington Post. Did you look at the source? His name is right there as the author on the piece. What are you saying?

I do believe that he feels this way. I have no reason to disbelieve him. I have no need to doubt that the opinions he's expressed are his own and how he really feels.

I have not broken any rules of ATS. There is no need to defend my OP.

I DO think Donald Trump would be a rotten president and would not help veterans. Those are MY opinions and I don't have to defend them, either.

LOL ...

Hmmm ... but you'd rather have a President who's so insecure he has to defend his penis in primetime?

Okay, if that's what you want.

Trump however was describing why he doesn't like McCain and he was referring to his being captured.

Let's at least deal with what the man said rather than trying to spin it into what you might say ...

Did you know he opens his Mar-a-Lago property to disabled vets? So they can come and relax? Nope, because he is not a hack. He just does it....

Why bring that into the conversation? Again, he did not say McCain was a loser and the POW comment at the same time.

Yes, he did.

Speaking at an event in Iowa, Trump argued that McCain — who has spoken out against Trump for his controversial comments about Mexican immigrants — was not a real war hero. "He's not a war hero," Trump said. "He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren't captured." "Perhaps he's a war hero, but right now, he's said bad things about a lot of people,' Trump added. The real-estate mogul also said that he didn't like McCain after his loss to President Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election. "I never liked him after that, because I don't like losers," Trump said.

Business Insider

If you want a more perfect quote, find it yourself.

Trump made the "loser" claim on the same day in the same speech about the same man.

Trump claimed to donate to veterans associations a penalty that Palm Beach assessed against his flagpole that had to be higher than everyone else's in town ... *cough* tiny hands *cough* ... but do you have a note on the details of Mr. Trump opening his doors to disabled vets?

Because, in public at least, he tends to make fun of disabled people ... and he tends to be a bit slow on following up on promises to donate to veterans groups.

Yeah he pretty much did, doesn't matter how many ways you spin it, Trump put his foot in his mouth, and continues to do so.

Trump wants to tear VA down, and feed more money to his for profit medicine pals. I rely on VA for my healthcare, had surgery there on Wednesday for a non-life threatening condition. I have no complaints with my treatment.

Huffington Post didn't write the letter; an American hero did.

Next?

LOL how DENSE you are

Of course the marine wrote the letter, but HP was quite happy to publish that quick. I can write a letter clobbering Clinton and Bashing Obama and any old news paper (take your pick) WILL NOT be so happy to do the same thing because of who it is about.

Take you tiny hands and small feet home if you cannot put up some real facts. You have been talking about dick size this whole thread. Calm it down man...

Make fun of disabled people? Let me guess. The one reporter who recanted his 9/11 story, right? Any others? Because I do not see him making fun of a disabled person. Nope. You can try to tie it together but, hey, for #s and giggles, if he makes fun of disabled people I am sure there are 100's of videos. Lets see them?
