That depends. The philosopher stone could transmute mercury into gold - well, physicists did build nuclear machines which can transmute atoms of mercury and make them atoms of gold. In which case the philosopher stone would be the formidable machine.

Some other people say that the philosopher stone gives you eternal life - but then one can have an entire lifetime yet never really live, whereas those who are wise enough can make each of their day feel like entire lifetimes, in which case the philosopher stone would be a state of mind.

Yes, sulfur (the "salt") and mercury (the liquid "blood"). The sun and the moon, the ever shifting and the ever calm.

But you need a catalyst for all these concepts or matters to form a solid tool (a metaphysical rock, a stone of a philosopher).

The catalyst is entirely dependent on your intention, on the purpose which you need the tool for. You don't use a laser to drive a nail into wood, and you don't use a hammer to write data on a CD.
