This school put "America Pride Day" up for a vote to the student body and the students themselves...by a ratio or 2 to 1 voted against not having "America Pride Day"..

The school activities director just speculated that they might have voted that way because some people felt excluded.

The students themselves decided to nix it.

"America Pride Day" came in 3rd amongst students..."College Day" wearing apparel of a College you would like to go to came in first.

Yes. That's why I said, how much of this backlash is really the kids or is it their parents fueling it.

How American is it to have something put to a vote, then throw a tantrum because you don't agree with the outcome.

On second thought

Stupidity on both sides of the issue.

First off, who cares if they have an "America day" at the school? This is America.

Also, who cares about "America day" to begin with? It perpetuates an ultra-nationalist mentality that I find to be quite dangerous.

What makes America day "ultra nationalist"? Do you feel the same about cinco de mayo? I'm guessing you have some rationalization for why that's completely different.

In the USA...

Cinco De Mayo represents...Drinking Margarita's by noon
4th of July represents...Drinking Beer by noon
Labor Day...Celebrating Socialism?..naw..drinking beer by noon

I appreciate time off work, but there is always something commercial and insincere about the holidays IMO.

Protecting the minority from the majority, for all intents and purposes, is what our Constitution does, yet so many on this site completely miss that as they run their thoughtless pro-Amerika ideology.

Just say that some many brains are in skulls but so few are used for thought.

Derek

Wasn't the vote pretty evident that the group wanting this pride day in the minority?? Seems like you are ignoring that.

How can you be PROUD of something that happened by chance?

Proud to be American...
Proud to be British...
Proud to be five foot nine...

Pride, especially national pride, is as dangerous a thing as religion.

And even religion teaches that pride is a bad thing...

I'll bet a box of doughnuts most of you upset about this
are from a certain faith that teaches...

Proverbs 16:18 "Pride Goeth before a fall"

meh

I just want to know why people feel bothered or upset about groups having a pride day this, or history month that?

Who cares? I mean it's just some kind of self-admiration for them and people like themselves. Why does it matter in the big scheme of things or bother people?

What is more interesting to me is groups taking stories out of context for culture war purposes.

But for Culture war purposes...ya gotta spin a story like it is the Socialist Anti-American education system vs Patriotic Youth!!

When the Patriotic Youth...decided to not have "America Pride Day"

The BS gets exhausting....

America pride day would make some feel excluded but college day wouldn't exclude those not going to college??? Problem with pride days is someone always will feel excluded. Get over it or be an emotional weenie your whole life. Whatever, students voted so be it. I find this director funny though that America pride day would exclude some, but unless all 660 students are going to college would any pride day not exclude someone?

I was not referring only to "America day" in and of itself. I find the entire notion of ultra-patriotism, American exceptionalism, chanting "USA" and other such actions/celebrations annoying. We are no better than anyone else in the world. Too much pride has led to arrogance, arrogance has led to the inexcusable actions we have taken across the globe.

I couldn't care less about cinco de mayo either, or the vast majority of anything celebrated on any day. When one of these "days" celebrates something with purpose I may join in.

I'm guessing you have some rationalization for why that's completely different.

Why would you think that? Perhaps you assume too much?

Yes, I put this in the political forum. There are not enough words that I can express my extreme disgust with this principal. I hope he is fired immediately.

Students at a Wyoming high school took matters into their own hands last week by festooning themselves in the colors of the American flag after the principal and an assistant principal canceled “America Pride Day” over concerns that some immigrant students could feel sad and left out.

Read more: dailycaller.com...

Are those immigrants not in America to become Americans? Why can't they take part in American Pride Day and hopefully be included by their fellow students?

Problem is most students outrage is kind of hilarious given the downward spiral of the USA. Not really a lot of pride to be had.

If they allow
anyone and everyone
to openly celebrate
their heritage
their religion
their ideology
etc.
and have a day for
everyone who wants
one, then yes.

There would not be enough days in the year.

On a side note, what is up with your post formatting?

A lot of people skip long paragraphs.
My formatting makes it easier to read,
as you probably know the average reading level in the US is around 8th grade.

I try to make my points in highlights for the reader
who is challenged by long paragraphs.

I try to make my posts as easy to read as possible
and not above the ability of the average American reader.

Just trying to be sensitive to the fact that most people
can't or won't read real paragraphs but
will read short pithy statements,
we have been well trained by the media.

you could always make it easier on us by not posting.

True but then without me,
there is no real fun.

Just everyone patting each other on the back.
How much fun is that to participate in?

I really spice up a thread
and get the old adrenaline flowing!

No one ever agrees with me and that's
half the fun of participating in the threads!

adrenaline is more useful for getting in a fight than it is for being rational.

with that said, the less adrenaline feeding this hysteria, the better.

Awww your'e no fun after all.

What's wrong with allowing everyone
their pride day
or
no one
in a school.

That's the ultimate solution.
The one that will hurt no one's feelings.

After all that appears to be the most
important issue here,
hurting people's feelings.

I imagine many people here would make
hurting people's feelings a criminal offense.

That is how we are raising our children,
if someone hurts your feelings,
cry and whine until people feel sorry
for you, and then get them to punish
everyone who hurt your feelings, no
matter how overly sensitive you are,
or how blind you are that you are
not the center of the world that everyone
must bend their will to.

Right. Go kids.

Even though a vote put American Pride Day in third place.

Just do what you want. It's the American way.

I'm a socialist, thank you very much. Liberals are "lite-Republicans". Not my cup of tea.

Why? Do you cheer for some college football team and relish in the bread and circus provided for you? I believe my position is one that realizes my country is great because I can criticize it and hold it accountable the best I can, and it is not great because the people chant slogans or sayings on schedule, as trained, over and over again.

That also goes to show how deep and effective the leftist NEA and values clarification has gone in indoctrinating our youth against their own country and their parents beliefs. After all, that is what values clarification is for and always was.
If even a handful of kids revolted, there's still hope.
Just because a majority were too brainwashed or had parents from different countries doesn't mean they are right.
The point of a representative Republic is to stop mob rule from destroying valuable principles and mores.

I knew that but thank you for spelling it out for me.
I don't generally cheer for sports teams, but if I must it would be the St. Louis Cardinals.

It's also incredibly sad and self-absorbed to feel your country is great because you can and like to criticize it. It's not the same as having the right to rise up against tyranny and have redress of our grievances, whereas leftist radicals simply hate America and want to radically change it into some unattainable utopia where everyone is taken care of by the Great Nanny in the Wh and no one gets their feelings hurt by partaking of being proud of the country that as another pointed out they ostensibly came here to be part of.
Strangely your comment reminds me of the sad and horrible statement by FLOTUS that now that her hubby is Prez she for the first time feels pride in her country.

I have Aquarius rising so I'm really not concerned that the majority doesn't agree with my worldview, except when the majority is being steered toward anti-Americanism and various modes of radicalism causing a steep decline in "American exceptionalism" and the Founding principles.
My point is that the majority isn't always right, as history has been wont to show us.

And I'm a Scorpio -- tell me I care.

But, you think you are right. And you think everyone else is just confused.

Oh, and please define Liberal for me.

That was in reference to you throwing in Aquarias.

Not the subject of the thread.
