It's been happening for a fair few years now and I understand to a degree but they are taking it too far now.

I know why theres very few new movies and why everything is a remake, it's all about money and I understand that. Hollywood is a business, a cash cow as it were and investors need to get a return on there cash input. A new film might do well or it may flop, never a good thing for an investor.

Remakes(I hate the term "reboot" it smacks of marketing meetings and PR) on the other hand have a quantifiable return on investment, choose the right remake and the correct leading actor and you can figure out how much profit is to be made, I undestand this from a business perspective.

Roadhouse.

They are remaking Roadhouse, one of the cheesiest most awsome movies ever to be made, WHY??

The origonal movie was so good it defies explanation, it had everything a movie ever needed and more. I still watch it now and can pretty much quote the script word for word like all great movies.

Ok so they picked a good movie, they added a great up and coming star in Ronda Rousey( one cool ass lady with the fighting ability to match) but this really needs to end soon.

I am so annoyed about this it's beyond explanation and yes it may be one of those first world problems people keep banging on about but I live in the first world and this is winding me up to the max.

That's why they don't get a dime from me. Every month I look to see if any of the new movies look interesting. There might be something every 6 months if I am lucky. It's all garbage remakes and sequels. My desire for a movie with an original plot feels like unrequited love. Ok, so that may be a little mellow dramatic, but still...

I 100% could not agree more. I just heard about this yesterday. I will not watch it. I love the original.

Let's face it. Obviously Hollywood is just full of people with NO imagination anymore!!!!!
It's getting old.

I can't believe they are going to remake Roadhouse. That's just a really bad idea all around. I for one, refuse to pay good money to watch it.

Its all about the money, money, money!

Reboots make money so they keep dipping into the well.
I will grant you that most of them are terrible.
Karate kid
Day the earth stood still
Total recall
Superman
Spider-Man
Willy wonka
War of the worlds

But I think they all made millions.

What ticks me off is they have to remake the movie, but they change everything that we loved about the movie. Take Ghostbusters or even Road House, they had to change the characters from male to female. Why? What was wrong with the original material?

Anyone who dares to reboot Back to the Future should make like a tree and get outta here.

Yeah I hear they're making a reboot of Glengarry Glen Ross. In 3-d no doubt!
Highly disturbing.

A very good friend of mine has said for many years that if they ever do remake back to the future then he will go postal in such a way he will become more famous than Michael J. Fox.

If that sad day should and most possibly will, I fear I may have to join him.

LOL!

One of my favorite movies. If I catch it on t.v., I will always watch it if I can.

I didn't much care for the third one though.

I completely agree. I am a Star Trek fan and I hate what JJ Abrams did to it. I don't even consider the mess he made to be canon.

Stop with the remakes. Come up with something new.

It disgusts me that people make so much money off of remakes like this, and an original series like Firefly got trashbinned. WTF is up with that?

Blaaaaa!
They totally ruined gort.
Very few remakes ever live up to the originals. "The thing" did but they came up with a new direction for that one. Pretty origional.
I did like the first Star Trek movie, they came up with a good story and ran with it but they dropped the ball on the second movie. I guess that's the difference between a reboot and a remake.

One remake that was actually better than the original was True Grit with Jeff Bridges. I watch it every time it's aired.

Roadhouse?? Why did you think the original was any good. You're talking reboots of trash movies in the first place. NONE of them should have been made.

Yes, I'm with you on the remakes/"reboots." Very few are remotely as good as the originals (although a few are). And the fact that they want to remake some is just complete sacrilege: Nightmare of Elm Street??? Poltergeist??? The Crow???

When I saw they were remaking Road House I had to shake my head and pick up a copy of the original.

I think it comes down to two things: A) money (obviously, and BOX office money, since it's always about profit), and B) "some" films that are remade are considered "dated" by some standards, so to "remake" them is the attempt to cash in on a newer, younger crowd (and using newer SPFX), so again it's money.

It looks like we're in the same boat, man. I hate, absolutely hate, remakes. They've made so many of them and ruined most of them that it's pathetic. I really think that they've run out of ideas.

Which War or the Worlds are you talking about?

If you mean the one with Tom Cruise, I actually really like that one.

The rest of the ones you mention, agreed. Horrible.
