Personally, I don't have an issue with so-called 'Reboots'. I've found some of them to be rather well done, and I don't see much wrong with remaking a movie in order to make it relevant to a new generation (i.e. War of the Worlds).

Where I do have an issue is with period pieces (i.e. True Grit; it wasn't a bad film by any stretch, but it wasn't necessary in the least) being remade; there's no reason for that to happen at all, as the period they take place in will be no more relevant now, than they were when they were made, unless they were made during a contemporary era (WW2 movies made in the 50's).

When it comes to the comic movie reboots, let's face it, those are strictly about making more money on the same movie, a few years later (yet in most cases, I still enjoy them).

All of that being said, I'm afraid that we're in for many more reboots of movies, both good and bad, for the foreseeable future, and it has nothing to do with a lack of imagination on Hollywood's part; it's about creating a buzz that will translate into profit.

Get the hell outa my thread!

You better bring your A game saying that rehashing those three movies is alright by you unless you have a damn good reason to do so.

Why not watch the reboot and have yourself a cheap version of JD whilst you sit and "Enjoy" a cheap copy of a class product.

Roadhouse?? Why did you think the original was any good. You're talking reboots of trash movies in the first place. NONE of them should have been made.

Shame!

Shame on you! lol!

How dare you mock the center piece of swayze's acting career.

It was a masterpiece of direction, production and acting.

Shame on you for saying otherwise.

lol, I kid of course. It wasn't the best film but, it is a 80's classic for sure.

This is no different than theater.
Bring back the classics for the new generation.
Of course some of the magic is gone, but that depends on the talent level. I saw they are trying to remake Mary Poppins - that would be pretty hard to pull off, but it sure would be nice to give kids the same smile we had when we were younger.

Gerard Butler as the Phantom of the Opera -- now that was a pretty good remake.

Don't watch movies because you aren't interested, or write a great script and entertain us all!!!

Agreed OP

One of the only movies I never want to see remade because they won't do it justice is THEY LIVE.

The one with Keanu was The Day The Earth Stood Still. The only remakes I personally have liked are Ammittyville with Ryan Reynolds and Dredd with Karl Urban.

Only cheesy in parts (fight scene?). The rest is an accurate analogy...

"I have come to kick ass, and chew bubble gum.

And I am all out of bubble gum."(cocks 12 gauge)

That's like one of the most easily recognized lines in movie history.

Oh, and you know in the re-whatever, it won't be in there. Just a paraphrase at BEST.

Its all about the money, money, money!

Reboots make money so they keep dipping into the well.
I will grant you that most of them are terrible.
Karate kid
Day the earth stood still
Total recall
Superman
Spider-Man
Willy wonka
War of the worlds

But I think they all made millions.

Old movies remake makes money. Modern Triple A movies getting remake is completely pointless. Just like the new "Point Break" movie or Fantastic Four.

I remember reading about them remaking Alien movie which was stupid to be honest. The new Robocop was kind of crap and didn't have its own plot.

I don't mind remakes or reboots at all, infact I love seeing different takes on things, I don't know why it bothers so many people, not like you're forced to watch!

My heart goes out to Julie Andrews. I was horrified when I saw what they did to Sound of Music.

a reply to: valiant And what should we watch instead? If you are like me, nothing because there isn't anything else. Fortunately, novelists are still coming up with unique ideas, proof that it can still be done.

Other movies? I never said everything should be a reboot or remake, just that I don't mind them. and the idea that everything is a remake these days is just ignorance, there are plenty of new movies out there, independant movies, straight to the shelf etc you just have to look.

Rhonda Rousey in the Roadhouse remake? Really?
I predict that movie will suck. I agree with OP about most remakes though. They should just leave the classics alone. But there are a couple of good ones. LIke 3:10 to Yuma and the Batman Dark Knight series. Those were better than the originals.

What!!! How can they make Roadhouse anymore ludicrous than the original. ?

it's one thing to remake old movies with newer sfx, though the overall movie isn't necessarily better.
some people consider 'Independence Day' a remake of 'Earth vs the Flying Saucers'.
the Ioan Griffid / Jessica Alba Fantastic Four isn't that old, and they already remade it? what, ten years?
two Hulk movies within four-five years?

one movie I would like to see remade; When Worlds Collide. what with all the doom porn I'm very surprised no one has.

Hollywood just doesn't want to take a chance and spend $ making something new and original.

Hollywood would rather play it safe and remake a movie or add a sequel than produce a new, original idea.

They KNOW they will make money on another Planet of the Apes reboot/sequel. They don't, however, know if a new sci-fi franchise will take off and be worth the money.

Hollywood goes where the easy money is.

It is our own fault. We keep watching and paying to see these sequels, prequels, remakes and reboots. If we all stopped, they'd be forced to make original movies with original ideas again. It isn't like producers don't have stacks of original scripts burying them alive. They have plenty of new ideas sitting around waiting to be used.
