Law-enforcement sources said that a look into Thompson’s chatter online revealed he had ties to a radical U.S.-based radical Islamic leader who advocated aggression against the American government. Thompson’s comment was on a video explaining the idea of creating an Islamic caliphate, or borderless kingdom, which is ISIS’s ultimate aim.

The authorities are telling uniformed officers in New York to be on alert, based on the ISIS threats and the shooting in Canada.

His identity has been confirmed by various news sites as Thompson.

Based on his Facebook, it seems likely that he leans towards radical ideologies. CNN just said the same on their TV broadcast.

Of course you have to be nuts to attack anyone with a hatchet, but that does not mean that he was not goaded into it, either directly or indirectly, by radical influences (aka "terrorism").

Just shoot them, and let us get on with our lives. Maybe if more people had more guns, these cowards would go back into hiding.

I wouldn't call it terrorism until we have a clear understanding of the motive behind this attack. That said, considering IS had recently called for such attacks, it would be logical to assume that they may be terror related.

I personally consider the use of force justified, considering two officers were seriously wounded and admitted to hospital. The Police used force to halt any further harm to themselves and surrounding civilians.

If the objective is terror and media attention, an axe attack is more frightening and attention grabbing. A gun shooting has become too common and passé. There is a reason axe wielding maniacs have become a staple in modern horror films.
