So, we've all been feeling a little under the weather. I believe chicken is the cure to almost anything that ails you.
It has been raining here for two days and I suppose I am getting in my "winter blues" mood...thank gosh it isn't cold...yet...

I make chicken stews often. The recipes vary according to what I have on hand, the energy level of my brother in law (his help is needed and encouraged), and time.
Today, was a basic chicken stew/soup. A rustic dish. I had prepared the two (small probably 10 month old capons) last night for roasting. When I got home from work/school the house had a delicious fragrance. He had cooked them to (almost) perfection.
Half of my work was done as we had stock in the freezer from a friend.

I added some dried herbs (more fragrant to me than fresh) sauteed onion, the carrots, and garlic. I added some frozen corn and potatoes of course I AM IRISH !.
The garlic and chive butter we had in the freezer to paste on the french bread. I buy it pre sliced at the local market.

NO ONE shall be under the weather tomorrow!
This recipe (?) has always been a staple in my house and one that even the children eat a helping of seconds and sometimes thirds...amazing for children of "today's world" with hot pockets and the like...LOL!

Well, anyway, here's my PORN contribution. It may not be everyone's tastes but, we certainly do find it salivating!

Tomorrow is deer burger chili...another one that the kids love!

We have some dear (no pun intended!) friends who hunt regularly (even take off of work for it!) and they keep us
stocked...

Nice contribution. I know who to call when I am not feeling so hot for my chicken soup fix. I like the touch of adding chive butter to the bread, herb butters are great.

Let us know how the burgers turn out.

Friday was unseasonably warm so we all sat outside on the proch and I whipped up some spicy tuna tartar with wanton crisps:

After, since I had more of this wonderful sashimi-grade tuna I made peppered and seared tuna which I served over red cabbage and carrot slaw that was marinated in rice vinegar, mirin and dashi. I added some Asian spiced and herbed grilled zucchini and a wasabi mashed potato baked croquette:

Saturday night was cooler so it was pasta time. I made sweet potato gnocchi with kale and radicchio which was topped with parmesan, crisped sage leaves and brown butter:

I would eat those. How soon after they come out do you put the chocolate on?

This is from the past weekend.

We had a chorizo appetizer that I simmered for about an hour with some red wine and tomatoes and served with some grilled bread that I made:

Then I did seared duck breast with a port/cherry reduction, duck fat-fried frites that I lightly breaded first and white beans. I went and pulled a serious bottle of wine from the cellar sine we had friends over that I had not seen in awhile:

I DO so love your porn photos!

I seem to have acquired an "allergy" (?) to tomato based food...I have been violently ill the last two times I've eaten anything with tomato...no more deer chili for me

We unwrap the kisses while the cookies are baking and what's left LOL goes on immediately after the cookies come out of the oven.
Before you take them off of the cookie sheet...they will stay soft-ish as well.

That would be devastating for me, I love tomato-based pasta sauce and pizza. I could not imagine not being able to eat them.

More food porn is required!

Well... I can't make food photogenic apparently, haha. But this is today's lunch, quiche! Just a quick throw-together involving onions, spring onions, mushrooms, bacon, and some grated zucchini.

Adapted from this recipe ... Mine didn't want to pose for the camera as nicely as that one

I think that picture came out great. I like the way the background is out of focus, just like some real food porn pics from magazines.

What are you making next?

photogenic food is inedible. Seriously...they spray paint it, and use things like shaving cream in place of whipped cream.

But the quality of the photo itself....you are quite a photographer

Exactly. It came out quite nice.

My friend used to work with a ad agency on Madison that specialized in food marketing, he told me many of the same things you mentioned and then some. You always end up feeling like Michael Douglas at the Whammy Burger when you purchase the un-adulterated final product.

It's not me, it's the camera! Haha. Birthday present from a couple of years ago, I still don't really understand how to use the thing apart from the focus and depth-of-field.

But... Wow... Paint! Shaving cream!!!
The audacity! haha. I ogle quite a bit at all the "photogenic" food you see everywhere, might have to stop

I've been in a kitchen mood lately, so there'll undoubtedly be something and will have to wait and see!

THIS is way off topic but, I wanted to share with you as I recall you like antiques...

The cabinet that they are in is a round glass and claw foot.
It was beautiful as well.
It went with my sister years ago as I was a gypsy and well, that's how things go...LOL

She has since wanted to give it back to me but I will continue to find a way that it will stay with her, as it should be, as it was...

My sister called the other day and they will be moving from their large home into a smaller one. To be built but, they were approved for the mortgage.
The china cabinet with the round glass will be coming back to me. It belonged to my Father's Mother and I am unsure of it's age. He was born in 24 though...
I am excited. I always felt like it belonged with her and I have been such a gypsy but, if I DON'T go get it, she will sell it and it will be gone from the family forever, possibly.
I will have to embark on filling it up with china and such befitting it...

Sort of excited. Not sure how to get it here. maybe a moving company? But, what if something happened to it? It could never be replaced!
Maybe this wasn't too off topic. The vessels in which we serve our food are sort of related to the food porn itself? No?

THIS
is sort of what it looked like. Wooden shelves and a decorative piece on the top.
My original photos (on here) are gone so I must have deleted them...LOL

There are freight companies that specialize in transporting antiques, I have used several to get items that I have purchased on eBay.

i really should remember to snap some photo's.

Made a delectable chicken picatta tonight served over some linguini and a garlic/butter sauce, and minced kalamata olives. The olives made the pasta amazing, and played off the capers in the picatta perfectly.

Today we made a pork shoulder, which I turned into Carne con chile. Basically a tamale meat made from pulled pork, red chiles, onion, garlic, and the drippings (sans grease) from the roast. Topped it with a pico de gallo, queso fresco, sliced avocado, and some jalapeno lime crema. It was fantastic, rustic Tex Mex

low carb version (for me, minus the tortilla):

The green strips are sliced jalapeno fried in bacon grease. It really sent it over the top.

Food porn lol. You know, when I first saw this title I thought it was about something completely different, and that would get someone banned.
