I kid you not. There is very little sincere interest in the well being of either the driver or the boy. Instead folks use this as evidence of their particular cliche about blacks/whites (depending on the political "side").

It all starts with the leadership. If the roles were reversed, as I said earlier we would've heard from the good reverends Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson by now. If the beating victim dies (God forbid) will Obama come out and say if he had a son, he would look like Steve Utash or one of the mob who did the beating?

It is a small "world" We are all human, well most of us.. Skin color is one thing, but Culture and dna is another.. most of these people that commit "mob type" crimes have it in their dna. That is how they were written, to be violent, to live the drug and crime life.. It won't change, its in Their DNA!

I was SO glad to see that happen.

Hey, I like granola too and I would hate for your perspective to be lost in these discussions. Please don't let a lively debate curb your idealism.

I think it is admirable but slightly irresponsible (in the long run) to focus on the road ahead without periodically checking in the rear view to see if we are producing any inadvertent roadkill from our driving style.

So why then did Obama make public statements about the Trayvon Martin case? That mess involved the stupid decisions of only 2 citizens, the victim being black. This incident involved the collective bad decisions of over 30 individuals beating down a single white victim. Explain that one for me would you?

No it is not. You sir are confusing NAture vs. nuture. If you believe there is a genome coding for drug and thug life, you are wrong. If it was in their DNA, these people would not have a choice in their actions. The reality is that no - it is these peoples choices to commit these acts and yes some people in the world are just that sick for the fun of it.

It would be wrong to get slammed for this way of thinking. Even if 30% of humanity adoptyed this philosophy it would be a heck of a better world. But unfortunately it's more like 85% of humanity have their heads buried in the sand, care only about their own little world, and operate according to the majority mob rule, which usually isn't for the best.

Try more like never. While it is a great thought, economic, racial and religious diversity will always result in people being most comfortable with others in their group.

I was once upon a time a very not nice or trustworthy person. I managed to change but it took a lot of effort. The reason I say this is that I understand both sides of this coin. Poor people with bad attitudes will always look to the group that has "more" as being able to afford being stolen from.
Inner city thugs actually feel like they are doing the right thing by victimizing those outside their own group. It is the flaw in human nature.

Canada has a hate crimes law. I am wondering why we don't. My theory is, if we did, we would suddenly see that whites are not the only perpetrators of hate. The only way racism will start to subside is when it is conceded that there are racists of every color.There seems to be an increas in this kind of thing the past few years. It seems that white people have become more tolerant the past few decades just as blacks have become seemingly less tolerant (IMHO). As of late we seem to be seeing a lot of movies portraying white people as evil (The help, Django, etc). I am not saying that historically whites did not commit atrocities, I am just wondering why their atrocities seem to be a popular theme in movies right now. To be sure a crime was committed here. However, to be honest I am not sure that they beat him because he was white or because he hit the little boy. Its a shame though, he was screwed either way, if he had feared for his safety and driven off, it would have been deemed racially motivated that he didn't help the boy. I have to say one thing though, criminals who live in ghetto areas are opportunists who will take advantage of any situation to rob or steal, and it happens to anyone who happens to enter their hood, black or white. I was born in Highland park and lived in Royal Oak until I was 12, when my father had the good sense to get our family out of there. Even then things were starting to get bad. I cant imagine what is is like there now. If I had the misfortune of living in Detroit, I would be armed to the teeth.

My fault I guess I misunderstood you. It was the thing you stated about poor people with no prospects that set my nerves to jangling.

No doubt trying to rise above poverty in such a bleak atmosphere is a battle but I dont see it as an acceptable reason for beating down and robbing random people.

Didn't mean to place words in your mouth it just sounded kind of similar to the same " oh they just don't know any better" nonsense constantly trumpeted by the excuse makers.

Im with you on your solution to the gang problem.
