A case of booze would be very good, it can treat a lot of things including depression. Remember to have powdered milk, it is an antidote for many things also. We take it for granted when we crave a glass of milk not thinking that it can keep us from getting sick. When things disappear it will be important to know a little of the antidotes. Mineral oil can also help a lot of conditions. Remember, you just can't go and grab something to eat like you used to. Bentonite Clay is also a good antibiotic and also activated charcoal. Use these when things go bad, they kill a lot of beneficial microbes also. We can't just walk into a pharmacy and get antibiotics, you need a prescription...that makes it hard to stock them.

I mentioned earlier you can get some antibiotics without a prescription at the fish
store & feed stores & maybe some animal pharmacies. You need to know the proper
names. It's late now but I can post info tomorrow. I would have earlier but no one
seemed interested. I know for sure that you can buy OTC Metronidazole at the fish store
& it is the same stuff we use in animals as well as ourselves & is safe due to having to be
approved in the first place.

I can make a list of medications by names, uses, & some dosages (but not suggesting dosages)
if interested. It would include Amoxicillin, Doxycycline, Flagyl (Metronidazole) & others with
names they are sold under that you may not recognize.

I couldn't help picturing someone running out of the house with a giant bag of vitamin bottles and jumping in an F-150 and peeling out.

In a "SHTF" scenario where everyone is still alive and looting is rampant the pharmacies will be as empty as the grocery shelves.

Anything left will be fought over by the "zombie hoards". If you aren't prepared before then you aren't prepared.

Besides what are you going to sell all that crap for/to?

Any hoarders will be set upon as quick as the store shelves.

I have a bunch of old nursing and midwives books replete with old remedies. All of those are au natural by the way. If anyone survives for more than three months those books will be golden…

Negative, anybody can go to Walmart right now and buy as much Insulin as you want. I go and buy 6 months at a time. I do not have a prescription.

All we can buy over the counter here in the UK is Paracetamol, Asprin and Alcohol and coffee for the kick...

I agree and I don't do drugs or doctors either, nor will I ever.
I use my own herbal remedy.

People take their lives way to seriously. As if the goal was to live the longest, no matter how fat you get.

Life should be live fully and without paranoia.

Some of these people that think they need checkups twice a year, and "somethings" always wrong with them end up with something "wrong" with them and without their drugs that they have allowed to reshape their physic and thus "require", well, they gonna be dead, soon after tshtf.

Just take a look at what plants produce what drugs...

Certain plants will give you good doses of heart medicine, some will give you Morphine and Codeine, some will give you antiseptics, some will give you all sorts of manner of other drugs...

Hoarding pills wouldn't be a great idea, having the seeds to plant your own (and this is in no way suggesting using any seed that is classified as illegal at this point in time, so far, planting any plant I am mentioning is legal in the United States, including Papaver Somniferum, which is used for extracting PoppySeed Oil for cooking and the seeds themselves for cooking also, as well as being a beautiful ornamental flower... FoxGlove is also legal to grow in the US) would be the better way to go, that way you can be assured of having all the manner of medicines you need over a long period of time..

Synthetic meds? Well that's a bigger problem... you don't really NEED them anyhow, as your diet changes to a more natural one, a lot of the health problems affecting people would start to wane..

Now, if I had a weak heart, I certainly wouldn't go off and start chewing foxglove, for you'd be short of both breath and heartbeats in no-time. The process of turning foxglove into heart medicine requires quite a bit of lab equipment and chemical skills and it wasn't until recent times that this property of foxglove became known, simply because a hundred years ago they didn't have the technology needed to do it, even if chemistry is one of the ancient sciences.

Though many herbs are good supplements to modern medicine, they are mosty that, supplements. Had these herbs been as effective as most herbalists claim, then how do we explain the low life-expectancy and serious illnesses people had before we developed modern pharmaseutical science? Back in the days people used mercury to treat syphilis and cut the scalps off the schizophrene and smeared dung into the wound, thus more "evil liquids" would be produced.

However, many herbs can easily replace modern pills for the most common problems, like pains and tummy aches, womens' problems and constipation. But use with care and research well before using any natural medicine, many of them have adverse and serious side-effects, just like modern drugs do. Just because they are natural, doesn't mean they are harmless. Keep that in mind.

never said otherwise about safety, you need to have some working knowledge of the plant and it's effects and side effects, just that a lot of modern medicines were originally derived from plants, the one I use most often to illustrate this is of course Morphine. For thousands of years there is written history of people using the plants that it comes from as a painkiller/anti diarrhea/sleeping medicine, and just because we only isolated it in the late 1800's (and of course one very bad drug is made from the plant as well) we all assume that it's a lab developed medicine, it's not..

The other one that is a good one to note is chamomile, it's a great muscle relaxer in it's own right, of course it has some side effects as well, but they are outweighed by the fact that it's a great relaxant.

Also mint.. plain simple mint... Great for stomach cramps/indigestion, as well as clearing sinuses..

the list goes on, and we get a lot of our modern medicines from old remedies that were around a lot longer than our modern civilization.. so if the SHTF knowing what plants and what effects and side effects would be beneficial..

Since food and water might not be the best at times, I'd stock up on anti- diarrhea pills or liquid. Also lots of pain pills.

I dont know about you, but my idea of TSHTF is a total breakdown of society after a revolution or Nuclear War etc, Police,Army,Navy, even the Chemists have all gone home to defend their own families as no-one is in charge anymore...it's a free for all.

What is your Idea of TSHTF scenario. ?
