Nuclear blackmail...

Well what do you suggest?

We risk killing billions and reducing the USA, UK and France to radioactive craters over a peninsular ?

What Putin doing is terrible, but not worth risking the end of the world over.....

So you advocate throwing Ukraine to the wolves, along with her citizens who don't wish to be under Russian rule, simply to avoid Putin from being more aggressive and using nukes?

Appeasement does not work, it has never worked, and it will not work now.

What Im saying is better theirs a compromise.

Ukraine keeps it independence but cedes the Crimea. Most in the Crimea seem to want Russian rule anyway. Not right or fair but better a argeemnet than world ending war!

Do you honestly think Nuclear war and billions of life is worth a small peninsular?

Really?

Well I hope you and your family are the first to go in the nuclear bombing.....those that cry for war should be the first to be sacrificed.

Do you believe in the right to self determination?

Per US news sources, Russia has only entered Crimea. An autonomous state that has voted repeatedly to go back to being an ASSR (Autonomous Socialist Soviet State).

Until Russia crosses that "line" (the boarder between the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Ukraine), they are doing nothing different then the UK in the Falklands.

Keep an eye on the Joker in this deck of cards......China is watching events unfolding in Ukraine very carefully....from the internation legal aspect.

Read somewhere in last 2 days that if Russia decide to intervene and annex Crimea, then China will expand its borders into Russia and annex some of that land for itself aswell. Not many Russians living out in the far east of the country compared to how many Chinese just over the border.

If Russia makes a point of bending international rules, beleive me others will follow straight away in their own interests.

And whats with this Russian military ship docking in Cuba yesterday?

I doubt that it is alone....you can bet theres a sub or two lurking around nearby also.....as backup should Obama intervene.

Doomsday clock would be bout 2 minutes to midnight at this point in time. I dont think many of the people realise how quickly and seriously this could escalate. Not just in the Ukrainian hemisphere but everwhere.

Go back 100 years, didnt we see the collapse of the League of Nations at this point in time before WW1?

Whats the bet the United Nations doesnt survive this issue now?

Obama will do nothing, remember when he said he would be more flexible after his reelection.

Is it a confirmed invasion? Obama has stated himself that it is "Russian military movements NEAR the Ukrainian boarder"www.wptv.com...

So you are either in the Ukraine seeing this happen with you own two eyes (hows the weather) or you are blowing it out your arse. Also comparing Putin to Hitler, tut tut tut. Once the Hitler card is played it is an automatic loss. Do you not know the rules of the internet?

No, really, it wont work. Did Hitler stop at annexing the Studentland? Nope.

Why should Ukraine be forced to split its country in order to appease a Russian government bent on returning to the Soviet union and its republics?

Secondly, if Russia really felt that way, then why are Dagestan / Chechnya still under Russian control? The people there don't wish to live under Russia rule, and since the majority in those areas support separation, why wont Russia allow it?

Yes - I do. because it wont stop once its allowed to occur. You will continue making the same argument for the future. Oh, come on, give them all Ukraine so they wont nuke countries. Its ok, let them take Moldova, we don't want a war over a small country. Let them take Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, they are small countries.

At the end of WWII Paton had it right about the Soviets.

LOL - thank you for making my point about mentality on this issue. Appeasement does not work, nuclear blackmail does not work. I would rather die in a war than sit idly by and accept Russia as my government.

What you are stating is that Russia does not have the military might / capability to win a conventional war. So Russia is incapable of defending itself when it invades another country.

Good to know.

Selflessness and good will thats dam well why.

Not fair no. But to avoid a war that could very well end the world as we know it? Be a brave a dam well selfless thing. More brave that you gun for brains that want to doom us all in a nuclear war!

Do you believe in the right to self determination?

When done freely and fairly yes and when taking into account history. What I don't advocate is a stealth invasion by encouraging immigration to a sovereign country only to use those groups down the line in an effort to break up / control a country. If people are so fond of Russia who like in the CRimea, they have a choice. Stay in Ukraine or move back to Russia.

Citizens should adapt to the country they have moved to instead of demanding the country adapt to them.

peck420

Semi Autonomous that is sovereign territory of Ukraine. Again trying to split hairs wont justify the action from Russia.

Until Russia crosses that "line" (the boarder between the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Ukraine), they are doing nothing different then the UK in the Falklands.

The people of the Falkland Islands voted to remain a part of the UK.
If you want to use the Falklands as an example though lets. Argentina is Russia in that scenario, demanding territory they lost and think they are entitled to.

Did the people of Ukraine get an option when they were part of the USSR?

Hmm... comprehension is lacking.

You do understand that Russia is not the only nation with nuclear weapons right?

I refer you to MAD as it applies to your scenario of Russian super nukes whose radiation / effects cant cross international boundaries.

Again though its reassuring to know Russia can win in a conventional war. If they could you would not need to rely on nuclear weapons.

The use of nukes will affect nations not directly involved, so I don't see Russia winning any allies there.

I guess its the next move of the Russians. Ukrainian armed forces are not responding to their provocation till now, so they get their radicals to attack them to get a direct response.
