Wow great letter she has written.

I feel for you all. After reading those nasty comments of people who probably have no idea how this effects them I hope their budget routine breaks down soon and they find out that it really really does effect them in their pockets.
But then again they are probably just singles in out of relationships, because they can't mature enough to settle down and have responsibilities like having a family.

She's welcome on ATS... we have a rant forum.

Too bad you're dreaming if you think her letter will have a lasting effect. I'm all for it though, power in numbers. Keep em coming!!

I don't think any President or any member of congress for the last 40 years has had any idea how hard it is for the average American to make ends meet. With that being said Obama and his administration is far and away the most out of touch any politician has been. It's mind boggling to those of us who aren't drowning in the kool-aid.

I often wonder what is next? How far will he go and most importantly how much more will the American people actually take? The only thing he has done successfully for America is drive the country straight to hell!

The answer is that no politician truly cares about anything, other than the power trip of whatever office they hold. Look at the debt that this country has, and then reconcile yourself to the fact that they are all bought and paid for...if they cared, they wouldn't be running this country into the ground.

No one with common sense runs a government the way that our politicians have, for the past...what...12...soon to be 16 years. It's beyond ridiculous.

Well, yes my friend, I do have a clue - over here we have health insurances, too. Since 1883.

I've lived in Germany. I love their healthcare system. The ACA is not even close. You don't have a clue.

ManFromEurope...isn't there a lower limit determining the amount you have to pay while getting paid low-level-salary?

Yes. Part of the trouble with the ACA is that the amount that you pay for the amount that you make becomes particularly misaligned for those right on the margin of poverty, and of course, the middle class. They are carrying the brunt of the cost of this thing, and it is outrageous, and will only get worse. Additionally, many of the people that already had plans that they could afford are now being dropped from those plans and must find something else, (which is now, because of the ACA, generally far more expensive).

I know of one ranching family that had to pay nearly $8000.00 more this year, (which put them at 20 grand a year for insurance, with a $2000.00 deductible per person) as their insurance company prepared to comply to the ACA. She works 20 hours a week at a good wage, and her ENTIRE pay check suddenly goes to cover insurance for her family of 5.

ManFromEurope...All in all: many people have not enough money to pay their bills. That is a bitter problem, but not the problem of a health insurance - which might save your live (or at least your possessions later on) as soon as the hospital bills starting to drop in.

I would say an additional 8 grand a year increase directly attributed to the ACA is far more than a "bitter problem", and it is certainly not a problem they had before this debacle. So yeah... I'll back this guy up. I'll say it again. You don't have a clue. You are one more sanctimonious European stereotype that spouts condescending drivel regarding a topic about which you know nothing.

just looking to add to the discussion.
Im frmo argentina, where you can health care at hospitals is free.
And i believe obamacare is well intended, but the whole package is actually awful. You can see how things are worse than they were before they passed that act.
Americans should have the right to get medical care for free, they shouldnt have to pay for it. You should be given the chance to choose, whether you wish to pay a low cost public health plan, or go with a more expensive private plan.
Then the goverment should make sure to provide a good health plan, so good in fact that people would then see theres no sense in paying more for a private plan.
This is what should happen, but there too much money involved. And theres no real decision to end the profit companies are making with their citizens health. I dont think noone in washington will ever put an end to this, there too much money involved. Whoever tries to end it will probably end up dead.
Health is right, and should be provided by the state, disregard if there are private companies who offer an alternative.
I cant believe the goverment spends 28 billions buying 190 f-22 jets, but they still dont provide free health care to their citizens.

And this is where you are wrong. Obama didn't grow up wealthy he grew up in a single parent home just like the woman that wrote this letter is talking about. She should have done a little research and she would have found this out.

Clinton got impeached for lying about a hummer, but Obama bankrupts people and puts corporations first and everyone just whines about it? America, the brave?

You my friend, don't live in this country, so you don't have a clue.
You might understand somewhat, if there are similiar circumstances, but you don't really know.
Parents don't give a good goddamn about the health in the future, when their kids TODAY HAVE TO EAT.
To make someone pay more money NOW for something they might NEVER NEED, is damn near criminal in my book

Agreed. I know that Germans are known to be a frugal people...I completely respect and understand that...it's just that in the US...they do have us over a barrel when it comes to life in general...

I understand that some outside the US may be wondering what us US citizens are complaining about...we're Americans...Americans have been known in the past to live lives of excess...unfortunately...times have changed and the America that is shown on TV, you know, the America that has 2.5 kids per family...2 vehicles, cupboards full of food and so much materialistic doodads that we could pave a path to the moon and back...it simply is not true anymore.
The bottom line is:
People are hungry.
People can't eat the internet...or Iphones...or SUV's.
People are working now to put gas in their vehicles...to get to work! So now, a huge chunk of that can be taken away so that the Good President can get away for that much needed vacation...also so that Congress can get paid during shutdowns.

I really don't even know if I could afford a job...isn't that some crap?
I don't know if I could afford a job...
meh

America may be full of materialistic CRAP...but Americans can't live off of crap.

I just wanted to say that if america wanted to, they could have the best healthcare system in the world. Obama is trying to start something, but maybe it is too late to try. It really is ashamed that healthcare became such a profitable business some doctors would consider to leave the profession due to lack of profit/potential profit. I would hate to think that the lump in my spouses breast was a beach house payment and not a real diagnoses.

I remember a country, a place, that had a proud middle class.
I remember a place where lower income families had hopes of bettering their situations.

I'm in my 30's and it all seems as if it was yesterday.

Once being able to bring brown bag launches from home to eat at school.
Being able to have insurance, if affordable.
I can remember the holidays approaching being a time of happiness.
Now it's filled with doubt and worry.

People use to be able to buy the kids presents and provide a nice meal for the family during Thanksgiving/Xmas.
Now the food pantries are being stretched to the limit.
And now parents have to decide if they can afford gifts.
Jobs, lol, ya I remember those, are becoming harder and harder to get.

This economy is already in the toilet, it just needs to be flushed already.

IF your fortunate to have a job, count yourself as lucky.
Although I wonder, how long before you get dumped down to part-time?

Get insurance provided by your employer, or wait, they don't have to, its cheaper to pay the fine, than to cover your butt.

And if you cant afford your own insurance, well then logically, you can afford the fine, right?

There's a lot of good people really hurting now days, and instead of help, they are having a boot being pressed against them. Basically telling you to stay down.

The rich live, we just make enough to exist.

The American dream is over.
R.I.P

Rome fell, why should we be any different?

There is no going back.
The system is in place to basically get rid of anyone obsolete to TPTB.

Protests are viewed as a joke.
And treated as such by the MSM and those in power.
In the end, the people in power don't, haven't, and will never care about you.

Voting no longer matters, it's just trading measles for chicken pox.

Only thing we, as people, can do, is help each other.
Become active in your community, food pantries, or just neighbors.

There is no white knight in shinning armor coming to save us.
"We the people" are now on our own.

Oh, and you could add my name and about 20+ other people I know, names to that letter.

Just my 2 cents
~Cheers~

This letter lays out what is wrong with our government in just a page.

Obamacare requires us little people to buy health insurance, Where does it require that same insurance to pay claims to pay for the proceedures we need?

Most large claims are routinely denied as a stalling tactic. The insurance company is stalling for time waiting for the patient to die so they won't have to pay. They are playing the odds and the odds are stacked in the insurance companies favor.

Let's face facts--TPTB not only don't know what it's like, they don't care.

They're siphoning wealth from the middle to upper classes ON PURPOSE. They're bankrupting the country BY DESIGN.

Obarrycare and the expansion of the welfare state--brought to you by Agenda 21, Cloward and Piven, and Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars.

I enjoy these threads because they bring so many differing perspectives to real issues that effect us openly on a daily basis! UFOs and 3rd eyes are great, and I've gotten my "doom porn" rocks off on several occasions lol, but this is the meat and potatoes of reality!

I am a kindred spirit, living hand to mouth, literally in this sucky economy. I started my own business cleaning houses and every day that I have a customer, I take the check written out to me and head to the bank, deposit it. Then I run my errands to the the grocery store or to put gas in my car or to get that new pair of $9.98 Wal*Mart sneakers my 10 yr old needs because he out grew yet another pair. My income buys all the daily necessities like the things I've mentioned, along with food, toiletries, dish soap, trash bags etc. My husband works for an okay wage, but has an older car that he has to maintain in order to drive the hour each way to get there and home again. His income pays rent, utilities and the disgustingly inflated loan payment for my vehicle (long story, but it was predatory lending at it's finest).

Our 3 children are covered by Medical Assistance through the state, thankfully, but we make too much to get any other form of assistance, and we wouldn't really want it anyway. At the end of the month we're lucky if we have enough left for a "date night". We manage, barely, but we do our best to stay in good spirits and continually count our many blessings. Hubby's job (which he just started in August) offers it and he received all the info 2 weeks ago. So I decided to look over it and see if there was a way we could possibly incorporate it into our budget... nope! $229 per month for the basic plan with a $9,000 deductible!! So for kicks and giggles I mosied on over to Healthcare.gov to get an estimate on Obamacare, well shut the front door... $191 per month with an $8,000 deductible/premium for their "Silver Plan"! How the f@*& are we supposed to afford either of them?! I mean seriously, we couldn't cut out enough in our budget to even pay half of that per month!

I'm disappointed because I really was hoping for some form of "Universal Healthcare" that would be inline with Canada, France or the UK, but this simply doesn't work and in it's current incarnation, won't work. I'm am grateful for the year extension though :roll eyes:

Good thing the Texas govt is working to help make Obamacare better. I'm sure the support of her local officials will help her get out of this dire situation.

I could have written that letter and most people I know could have written it as well.

She is right. He DOESN'T know what any of that is like. NOBODY in Washington knows what it is like. That's the problem. You really can't get elected to anything if you aren't rich, born in a well named family, or had a silver spoon shoved in your cake hole at birth.

That is why the economy is in the crapper. I have always said that if they put in a blue collar, minimum wage worker to deal with the debt we would see a change for the better. They know how to stretch their dollar for 2 extra nights of groceries and a down payment on their eldest's class ring. They know how to shop around for a better price on car repairs while still purchasing little Katie's inhaler. They HAVE to learn how to do it. Most of them have ALWAYS done it. Those in office have not, so they waste and care not.

We ARE collateral damage.

They don't deal with a lot of the issues most of us deal with daily.

Obama is out of touch. The whole damned administration is out of touch.

No.The problem is lazy people. They're infecting America. That's the problem with what USED to be the good ol' USA. We've become a nation of sissies. It's everyone elses fault I'm not rich,I can't afford to feed my ten kids,I can't afford the newest IPHONE.LETS BLAME THE GOVERNMENT!!! Its all their fault! I'm too lazy to get a real job.

I thought I'd never say it but I till now..I'm ashamed to be American.
I am also ashamed to be an American...but for a completely different reason than you sir, that's for sure! I'm not sure what your profession is or what social class you are a part of,but if you think that the problem with this country is that people are whiny and too lazy to work you are totally out of touch with reality lol. The problem with this country is that the richer-than-God corporations put ALL of these puppet politicians in power and their only concern is power and greed. Democrat/Republican,doesn't matter, they are all in the pocket of some greedy corporation.
I cannot understand how you get "lazy" from the letter that woman wrote,or from any comment agreeing with it. Did you not read that she has a job? She's a member of the biggest social class going these days....THE WORKING POOR. If you are lucky enough to find a job that hasn't been sent to China,(or some other foreign country for cheap labor ) you are stuck working minimum wage in a factory where your bosses consider you "a dime a dozen". You can go to work EVERYDAY,work your ass off for pennies,be treated like absolute dog #,and NEVER,EVER get ANYWHERE. And if you work and dare try to even ask for food stamps you are told you make too much.
You should be ashamed honestly for your response. Don't you realize that the good ol' American Dream is DEAD. And the people who killed it are the ones you are busy defending! Keep thinking it's the fault of lazy Americans, and not the fault of greedy,lying,power-hungry politicians and corporations because one day what the rest of us are going through in this country might catch up to you.

And it's not only the higher premiums these new policies will cost everybody, it's the deductibles that have now become unreasonable. I had a $500 deductible on the policy I had before it was canceled. Now, I see that the lowest deductible I can get is $3,500. That means I have to spend that much money before insurance even kicks in. All of my doctor visits, x-rays, etc. are going to be out of my pocket, unless I have to have some really expensive test or, heaven forbid, get some sort of disease. Why do I have to pay any premiums when they aren't going to cover anything anyway? Why can't the premiums kick in after your deductible is satisfied?? They'll know the date you get your insurance, all your providers can still submit your bills to them, and then when your deductible is satisifed, then you start paying your premiums. I mean, what the heck are my premiums doing for me up until that time?

Which also means, they've cut off their nose to spite their face. Even if people are forced to buy the insurance and pay out the premiums, they are still going to have to pay out of pocket up to their deductible. No money means no doctor visits or medical treatment, even with the premiums you are paying. It's not going to ensure that uninsured people get treatment. They still aren't going to have the money to pay up front.

Doesn't anyone else find it interesting that if this was "going viral" like the article claims it is, this is the first we've heard of it? I mean....I have tons of politi-tard friends on Facebook that just LOVE posting anything bashing teh Oblama but I have yet to see this "viral letter"...
Also - if it's so viral, why is it being reported on some backwoods-political site?

Maybe just maybe this is simply a #ty attempt at garnering attention to one person's opinion disguised as a "viral letter" .

Not defending anything or anybody (intentionally) - just trying to call BS when I see it
