This is par for the course. It's all about money, plain and simple.
It's a travesty that the almighty dollar and big pharma control every aspect of the medical industry...from the mutli-billion dollar research institutes to the small town family doctor.
Prescribing drugs is their stock-in-trade. It's downright evil.

I had an elderly neighbor who was prescribed 17 medications. Seventeen!

Not only does the medical industry\big pharma keep producing new drugs non-stop, they create new
medical conditions\diseases\maladies so they can have their army of doctors prescribe the drugs.

I remember in the late 1990s, the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline launched a huge campaign to peddle their drug Paxil. They distributed pamphlets claiming that one in eight Americans had social anxiety disorder. That's insane!

To my knowledge, the U.S. and New Zealand are the only countries that allow direct-to-consumer marketing for medications. We will soon be seeing an endless stream of these statin drugs advertised in TV commercials, pamphlets, and ads in every printed medium available.

The panel wants to give statins to people even without high cholesterol.

That's inexplicable, I agree. There's no justification for prescribing statins to anyone whose overall cholesterol levels are 4mmols/l or lower.

Just to be clear, those side effects you list are unlikely - the common side effects are muscle soreness and fatigue.

The fatigue can be successfully addressed by taking CoQ10 supplements.

Im fine with that,.
let the lazy take the drugs and become the drones the government, FDA, and Big Pharma wants them to be. Meanwhile those of us that know better, eat healthy and stay fit will be looked at as highly educated. I already see it happening anyway. Every time I drive past a fast food pit or see someone downing a sugary drink or eating a bag of candy, I can see the IQ points dropping.

i do everything you stated and i'm very healthy, must be the "herbs".

My husband was put on Statins and he took them for 9 months he had many muscle aches and pains when before statins he was an active and in great shape 54 year old with a blood pressure that any young person will envy.

But while I told him no to take them he decided to stay on them because the doctor insisted, well until his mustache started to get bold patches, yes "BOLD patches" that did it, he went to the doctor and complain on the problems and the doctors told him that it was never heard off, and instead wanted my husband to increased the doses, thank god that he shave his head because I wonder if his hair would have fallen too, well he stop the statin because he love his mustache more than anything else, 6 weeks later the bold patches started to fill in.

The irony, he, he.

I already told my doctor that I will never take that trash so don't even try to offer it to me. I tried once and two weeks into it I could not even go up the stairs and to think that my bad cholesterol is under 50 and my good one over 100 and really didn't need that crap.

Big pharma do not have enough profits they want to increase their 30 million statin drug users to 70 million now with the new guidelines that they pay for it to get the set with corporate corrupted money.

That's exactly what the doctor said to my elderly mother when she complained about side effects from the statin he had put her on. She was on for something like a month ... and the leg cramps that were severe and deep were so bad she couldn't walk. He said it couldn't be from statins because it wasn't on the 'side effect' list. YIKES! She got off the statin and the severe cramps went away.

Thank you for your kind reply (and for this thread!)

When I am verbally assailed by my husband for NOT having a primary care physician, or any specialist, I just think of my paternal grandmother. She lived LONGER than her two sons (who "doctored" like crazy) and into her 80s walked over a mile to a supermarket (she couldn't read or write so never learned to drive) and when she WANTED to go someplace NOW, well she was going now (NOT waiting for someone to take her). My dad and uncle (and my mom and aunt) were horrified when told "I saw xxxx walking along the road w/grocery bags." They saw it as an embarrassment (viewed by others as NOT taking care of her) but I've come to see her independence as just that. Doing what was best for her (and she lived into her late 80s and I don't think she ever went to a doctor).

Again, I think I've just been on a lifetime overload of being around "health compromised" people (my mom died when I was a teen) and I've just developed a total (rational to me) aversion.

No, we avoid pasta and bread as much as we can, we are healthy freaks. he,he. we eat as much organic as we can, take our supplements and exercises 5 days a week when we can, he is a retired marine but keep himself in top shape.

He was given statins because his triglycerides are high, but they are hereditary, his father is 81 years old and had them high all his life and he is still up and active.

i hear that, but life is to be enjoyed and if you enjoy life, your health will be fine. again though i use a lot of herbs of many kinds for many things. i had kidney stones years ago and i used blue vervain root, within a couple weeks they were gone and haven't returned in 25 years. i use stinging nettle (tea) for my allergies, not to mention they are chocked full of vitamins and minerals.

there are great medicines out there , but many are unneeded and or detrimental.

Yes, they try to dismissed like its nothing, my mother developed blue bruises all over her body while taking them, now that was bad enough for the doctor to stop them, because it was related to her liver.

6 years ago I thought I was having symptoms of a heart attack, As family history had shown it was a common thing at our age. So I went to the emergency room and they gave me an EKG and aspirin. Doc comes in and tells me he dosnt like what he sees and recommends a Heart Cath to look for blockages, I said ok. After the procedure he comes in and tells me my heart is clean,. not a single spec of blockage. Tells me It must have been stress. Well Yeah. it was and the combination of Garbage I was drinking and eating. Beef sticks and monster drinks. Sodium Nitrates in beef sticks can cause irregular heart beats, top that off with lots of caffeine and whalla... and simulated heart attack. Thing is MANY people do not know this and it can actually induce a heart attack,. couple that with a plugged artery and BAM your on the floor. Sodium Nitrate not only causes Rectal cancer, it messes with your heart.
I also found out through a specific blood panel that 1 of 5 people have Factor 5 Leiden. A blood disorder that unknowingly will cause heart attacks due to thicker blood. It is the polar opposite of a Hemophiliac.

1 in 5 !!!

I have factor 5 and the docs tried to tell me i needed to be on meds to keep the cholesterol in check. I said no and began a life changing move to stay healthy. If you dont know what you are eating it can kill you, be it over time or the next day. Educate your selves on what you eat and DO NOT trust the FDA USDA or any other organization that pushes drugs for a fix or cure.

Something else I did a few years ago was Buy all 100% grass fed beef. My cholesterol dropped 15 points in one year and my tri's went down also.. of course I did give up beer to.

Anyone that hunts and eats venison would notice lower numbers in those areas also
wild game is Very healthy. which is what your getting back to with 100% grass fed beef

the Corn fed crap that the USDA approves is a primary cause of health issues in people

Doesn't matter if I'm prescribed something or not, I don't have to take it.

Niacin and Vitamin C does the trick for me.

I drink tea on top of this, and don't worry about my blood-work.

Paps started taking statins 20 years ago. I'm certain it affected his cognitive abilities.

In every corporation lies a conspiracy. The size of the conspiracy is directly proportional to the market cap.

IMO, nobody needs statins. Millions of years of trial and error (e.g. evolution) has tuned an amazingly robust chemical system which is optimized for keeping you alive as long as possible so you can reproduce. You just have to understand your body chemistry and not tinker with it. Learn how to eat & what to eat.

Medical science showed up a heart beat ago. Soon followed by profit machines and their keepers to make science profitable. puke

My family has high cholesterol. My maternal grandmother ran about 225 until her death at 93.
My dad's side all had "bad tickers". Tried to put him on statins, he blew it off and never looked back. His current gig is yoga and tuning diet to keep his body PH neutral to alkaline. The results are remarkable. at 65 he has plenty of lean muscle and energy.

Dr. told me to take statins after a high cholesterol reading. When I asked for how long, he said forever. I walked away and haven't looked back. I did what he told me couldn't be done. Reduced cholesterol by a large amount with only diet modification and moderate exercise. I'm getting the PH strips next to see where I'm at in terms of PH. BTW, acidic is bad, fatty meat makes you acidic. green things bring it back. common sense stuff, which means no patent. boo boo pharma.

Yes, my husband and I travel 1 hour and half to Tallahassee to get the local leaf market organic and Earth fair, we go every other weekend.

But our local Publix organic section is excellent and you can ask where the beef and sea food comes from, I avoid sea food from the gulf and the west the beef comes from Main and Florida.

Never eat anything that is manufactured in California and the center states where the GMO corn is from, beef from that area is also poison.
