Here's a lovely thought:
Won't he have to pay a penalty for not buying insurance?
(or his survivors will be billed)

I think he mentions that somewhere in the video, he says something about a $95 fine.

I hope the uninsured understand that it isn't just $95. It's either $95 or 1% of your gross income, whichever is higher. So he may be paying more money. Either way, it's sad he has to go through this.

Iam so glad I was born in the UK, I spent my first 6 months in an incubator due to being a premmie baby, they saved my life at least twice and cost my Mum and Dad nothing.
I would pay more tax If they asked for it to keep our beloved NHS.
Poor dude in the OP I feel for him and his family.

it wouldn't matter if he got on the obamacare rolls any way.
he still wouldn't get the treatments he needed.

these two alphabet agencies would declare it not to be cost effective.

The Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB)
Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute ( PCORI)

go read about them in the mission statements.
no matter what the pretty words are, it's all all about rationing and denying health care.

Your numbers are off a fair amount.

He said PER LITER, not per gallon. His numbers are fine. Should have read more carefully, not skimmed and dismissed.

Uh..

The Poor are ALWAYS given death sentences because they aren't rich.

Ha ha!

Oh, man, the righteous indignation in this thread.

This is what happens when you make Healthcare a FOR PROFIT industry.

People think Obama is to blame for the insurance companies bailing on their customers, but really, the insurance companies are -always- looking to bail on the sick. ACA is just the latest tool to be used to keep insurance policies from paying out.

This guy was costing them FAR more than his 180 dollar premium, and the moment his insurance company was able to break that contract, they did it -gladly-. The sick part is that people are BEGGING to stay with the companies that are sending them to their deaths.

I know a guy who lost his insurance, and so signed up on the marketplace. Unsure of what he would make in 2014 he checked the box I disagree on the question "I could be liable for Perjury if I make untrue statements on this application."

He is now ineligible for the marketplace and has no way to fix the already submitted application. In his letter stating that he is not eligible it says he may qualify for care from places that offer sliding scale fees. This guys also has cancer!

He has been waiting on a call back for two weeks. They keep telling him someone will be in touch in 3-5 days. Now I don't think he will die, but its pretty screwed in any case.

That's what you get when you let the right wing write your healthcare reform bill.

Couple things wrong in your assertions.

1) The right wasn't even allowed in the room while the bill was being written.
2) It was Pelosi that said they had to pass it in order to see what was in it.
3) Not a single member of the 'right' voted for the bill that you say they wrote. However, ALL members on the left DID vote for it.

Do you understand now the flaws in your logic?

What the left wanted was single payer. They made deals with republicans to adopt various things they wanted which reworked the entire bill into what we have now. Something based off of the Heritage plan just like Romney and McCains plans. After the changes were made the Republicans still voted against it, because to them it was never about making a good health care system it was about trying to prevent the Democrats from having a major win when they held a super majority. The ACA is what it is, not because Democrats are bad or Republicans are good. It is what it is because those in congress are using peoples lives as a tool to score political points in future elections. The entire thing is sick. Democrats deserve no praise for passing it, Republicans deserve no praise for trying to repeal it.

The Basis of all the trouble. It is Exactly due to PROFIT.

what kind of Depraved retarded society would allow health to be a For PROFIT industry.

this alone is VALID reason to HATE every multi-millionaire, as they undoubtedly are profiting through investments in this industry.

So much for the good old days on ATS where people understood concepts like due diligence and actually looked for other sources on the original article. This guy not only did not receive a death dsentence, he actually was offered another plan that his doctored accepted that was... CHEAPER than what he used to pay, not more expensive.

This makes me think of this Video....

The States is no longer the envy of.... ANYONE. A country where millions upon millions have spent their lives trying to flee to, and now... should get out of. It's not a country, it's a business, and guess what, they're making all the money, from you!

But if this was so poorly written by the right, then why did the left all sign off on it?

The ACA is a recycled right wing healtcare reform plan.

The democrats are republican lite.

There is no left in the US.

There is only slight less insanely right right.

This was your left:

The few dems who may be slightly left wing signed off on it because they're stupid, spineless cowards who exist only to cave in to the repubs and the 'centrists' or 'moderates' in their own party for fear of their frothing-at-the-mouth fox news watching constituents.

Where is the public option (let alone single payer)?

The right wing ate it. It didn't help that all the fox news watching doofuses, repub voters, gobbled up all the right wing propaganda against a public option or single payer (dreaded 'socialism').

Enjoy your right wing healthcare reform. You got what you asked for.

Go bother someone else now.

precisely.

socialized healthcare isn't free, and tbh i'd rather have the freedom to choose what i spend my money on than it taken from me.

don't want cancer/diseases? stop eating animal products.

What, you think pesticides and insecticides and chemical fertilizers aren't cancerigens?

You don't know what you're saying, really.

Also, multiple private, for profit insurers means that either:

1. you're paying more for insurance than you really need to

and/or

2. you're not getting the care that should be paid for by your policy.

Private, for profit insurance companies exist not to provide you with healthcare.

But to maximize their profits.

I can only wish you enjoy your 'profit motive #ing everywhere' culture to the fullest.

How is the title misleading? If he cannot afford his hc plan, due to his insurance company raising his premium because of Obamacare, then he has literally been given a death sentence. As a parent and wife, I know what I would do for my family. The big O has completely violated everything American. I feel for this man and his family. I cannot imagine watching a loved one die just because we could not afford the new health care, and we had to feed our family. Even Reid said, "Why would we want to save one cancer patient (I realize this is not verbatim)?" What a tragedy for the ones already suffering and the many more to come. What a violation to make me, or anyone for that matter, pay for something that I cannot afford. "No, you don't have to buy this gum, but there will be a $5 tax for not buying the gum." How much more un-American can you get?

Why are insurance companies allowed to #ing unilaterally discontinue someone's policy through no fault of their own (the bull# pre-existing condition)?

Why the # is that (still) legal?

Shouldn't the ACA have made dropping people off because of pre-existing conditions illegal?

If they discontinue the policy they ought to be made to pay the # up all the money back they received over the years from whomever they cut the policy of off.

With 10% interest a year, compounded monthly. At least.

They are allowed to just take the money and walk away?

WTF? WTF? WTF?
