Your post exemplifies what I meant by the Hitler revisionist view that he want not as bad as people say he was. In Hitler's Germany, the economic revolution was a sham. A cloak for rearmament and militarisation and an excuse to expunge Germany society of elements that were not complementary to the Nazi ideal.

Do some research. History books and not YouTube. Start with something well known like the Night of the Long Knives (1934), the so called "Burning of the Books" (1933), Action T4 (1939) and so on.

People who think the USA has ever been akin to Nazi Germany live in a fantasy land.

Regards

This hypothetical scenario where Obama's administration manages to rewrite the laws to be re-elected for a third time and somehow wins and his fascist regime has been put into full motion. You get to pick where you want to live but you only have 3 choices. Those choices are China, Nazi Germany and a world where Obama continued to rule passed 2016. Which one do you pick? The one thing you cannot do (or anyone) is change how the governments worked and who's in there, so no rebellion is allowed in this scenario but standard warfare continues as business.

You now have to choose between Communist, Socialist, and Fascist. What is your pick and why?

You may be wondering why I'm asking this crazy question, but I'm interested in hearing thoughts around ATS. This is under the assumption that the US becomes a complete police/surveillance state. Please be civil!

My first response to your question is... How can the POTUS "change" a constitutional amendment without instituting another amendment which has to be passed by a process set out in the constitution? He would be out of office for a few years before it could be radified, so this point is rather mute.
If, as it appears, you are not happy with the way he is running this country, just wait a couple of more years and he will be gone. Then we will have someone else you can bitch about. Or you could empliment the "ultimate option" and leave yourself. From what I gather you may enjoy living in Hitler's Germany or China or somewhere else better than you do here.

As to my living in any other country. I have left blood, guts, and body parts on three continents in service to this country; why would I ever entertain the thought of living some where else?

No attractive choices for freedom lovers.

However, I'd choose China.

The ruthlessness & horrors of new tyrants is worse than the ruthlessness of older tyrants, imho.

Is this a trick question?

I'll take the U.S. a thousand times out of a thousand.

Nazi Germany? Really?

The People's Republic of China? Really?

Those are your only comparisons? Really?

I'd say, you need to get out more. Actually take a look at what's good about this country. It's only blindingly obvious if you bother to look for it.

Obama is not a communist, he's a right-wing fiscally conservative capitalist.

What the... I don't even... What universe are you from?

Nazi Germany before the war started (1932-1939) saw an absolutely astonishing financial recovery (think worse than current U.S. to THE world super power in 8 years!) It took the next three most powerful nations in the world working together for 4 years to bring them down!

Nazi Germany didn't fight alone. It was part of "The Axis Powers" that included Italy, Japan, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungry, Finland The USSR ( at the onset of war anyway) Thailand, Free India to name but a few.
Your comment made it sound that Germany was some kind of super human nation took on the the super powers of the day all alone.
They didn't.

I simply gave 3 choices based on extreme scenarios, even the US scenario is unlikely to ever happen but that is simply not the point of the poll. The point is which system would you rather live under. It could have been under Obama, Bush, Clinton, it doesn't matter as long as it follows the extreme ideas presented in the poll. At any rate, 2016, total fascist nation and you can't rebel. You only get to pick between communist china, socialist party in Nazi Germany, and the extreme scenario where the US becomes completely fascist, it doesn't matter if it's Obama or someone else got voted in. You have to follow that way of life for the rest of your life.

So far there has been some interesting answers. Keep them up! This is pretty amusing.

If I had to choose I'd pick Nazi Germany , only because I feel I'd be able to keep living and not die , even as evil as all 3msituations would be. My grandfather was a Nazi soldier who defected to the U.S. in middle of war, in return for info they gave him and immediate family full citizenship. And I'm blondemhair/blue eye :-)

So in a hypothetical forced to choose I'd pick Nazis I'd probably be able to survive and thrive and teach music or something.

Cool - you can look the other way and carry on playing your piano as they round up your neighbours and stick them on the trains too. Sweet, nice choice

At the rate the US is heading, by 2016, the US will have the semblance of China and Nazi Germany both.

It'll be a police-state where freedoms are sacrificed for the good of the collective and where certain minorities (those that believe in individuality, freedom, Constitution) will be targeted and vilified.

We're already seeing it now with TSA, NDAA, Free speech zones, TSA lists, domestic terrorist lists, IRS targeting Tea Party groups.

Just my 2 cents.

This is a bit of a silly discussion. For all the whining about the US, it remains a better nation to live in than China or Nazi Germany. If you think otherwise then you have lost the plot.

The US is about to become a third world nation that will more accurately resemble pre-Nazi Germany.
It's really not that great a place to live for those who actually work and pay their bills and taxes. Two thirds of the country is on it's ass bleeding them dry and will turn around and demand they keep on working once there is no economy and the dollar is finally declared toilet paper.

If you think otherwise, then you have lost the plot.

I think you need a course in political science. Nazi Germany was fascist, not socialist. China started out communist, but in recent years their economic reforms have re-instituted private property while maintaining a rigid single party system... the hallmarks of fascism. For a socialist country, try Sweden or Denmark. Lovely places. Most people would live there in a heartbeat. In any event you made your point: Obama is a fascist. Great. Now actually read the Constitution so you know why he cannot change it to give himself another term.
