Choice of Monsanto Betrays World Food Prize Purpose, Say Global Leaders

www.huffingtonpost.com

In honoring the seed biotechnology industry, this year's World Food Prize -- to many, the most prestigious prize in food and agriculture -- betrays the award's own mandate to emphasize "the importance of a nutritious and sustainable food supply for all people."

New Study: Monsanto Big Claims About GMO Food Yields Likely False!

The 2013 World Food Prize has gone to three chemical company executives,
as Monsanto and Syngenta are major sponsers of....you guessed it: The World Food Prize!

However, this has caused an immediate backlash, 81 Councillors of the
World Future Council have issued a scathing statement against this flagrant
hypocritical grandstanding.

While profitable to the few companies producing them, GMO seeds reinforce a model of farming that undermines sustainability of cash-poor farmers, who make up most of the world's hungry. GMO seeds continue farmers' dependency on purchased seed and chemical inputs...

GMOs also threaten sustainability because they continue agriculture's dependence on diminishing and damaging fossil fuels and mined minerals, as well as a wasteful use of water.

I appluad these Councillors for confronting the giant Chemical Corps head on!

This statement they have issued is well worth reading,
and sharing, it cuts to the core of the issue:
GMO is a corporate proifit scheme at best!

At worst, it stands to rob the world of its right to sustainable food!

Thoughts?

From the article linked above

The Rodale Institute, for example, found in its 30-year study, that organic methods used 45 percent less energy and produced 40 percent less greenhouse gases and outperformed chemical farming during drought years by as much as 31 percent.

Nuff said.

Also from the same article.

Moreover, the planet already produces more than enough food for all, and 40 percent more per person than in 1970; yet today 870 million people, still suffer from extreme, long-term undernourishment because they lack power to access adequate food. Developed and controlled by a handful of companies, genetically engineered seeds further the concentration of power and the extreme inequality at the root of this crisis of food inaccessibility. Monsanto, for example, controls 90 percent of the U.S. soybean crop and 80 percent of the country's corn and cotton crops.

i think we should get an award for havin' to eat this crap!

as far as the topic of the op goes, it reminds me of something in some ayn rand novels where 'they' create various boards, councils and discussion groups (ATS anyone?
) to push and support facist agendas.
the illuminati blueprint, right?
good to see that people are fighting this b.s. and, for whatever it's worth' i support them 100%. hopefully 'the sheeple' will begin to see that all monsnto's propoganda is contrived baloney and will stand together against them.

Yes, so true, its a fight for food freedom!
Sustainable practices, and organic farming methods are the answer!
Up to 179% performance just for sustainable methods!

A stunning multi-year study in Africa by the United Nations Environment
Programme provides an answer. High external inputs of chemicals and
fertilizers are needed for conventional industrial agriculture and it is for this
kind of agriculture that GM crops are designed. UNEP found in side-by-side
trials conducted in multiple countries that farmers using agroecological
science outperformed farmers using conventional approaches by up to 179%.responsibletechnology.org...

True, Monsanto has been caught grandstanding here with this award, as they
are the major sponser of it! They control the USDA and The FDA with the revolving
door, it is a conspiracy! One for corporate profits, and likely something darker.

Is it a coincidence that at the same time The U.S. is in decline, and they know
that GMO is toxic, that the U.S. does not even label GE foods?

Look Out Monsanto – Your Time Has Come!
People are not going to shut up, or put up!

It's one Big GMO Circle Jerk.

I woudn't be surprised if they started this "World Food Prize" to make more people think that Mnsanto's gmo's are good!!!! What a joke.

There's a farmer in Wisconsin that grows like 3 million pounds of food a year on 3 acres in green houses, tilapia, veg, etc. All organic. He should win that prize.

What a big giant effin joke this prize is just all those full of themselves gmo companies.....

Is this the story?

It sure is, its laughable if it were not such a serious deception. For those who have
heard about it and dont investigate, its a very misleading propaganda tool.

Everything has been taken over by big corporations whose executives are top bilderberger members and who enjoy gay rituals at bohemian grove.

As for GMO foods I am totally against them. We have no business forcing people to eat stuff that has been genetically tinkered with by people with dubious agendas. They more or less force you to eat it because a)there is no mandatory labeling of GMO food and b)organic food is expensive.

The prizes have become virtually insignificant.

Why, Phage,

You mean to say you have never heard of The Word Future Council?

www.worldfuturecouncil.org...

The WFC is one of the top references for Feed-In Tariff (FIT) laws that unlock renewable energy development in the international arena. Worldwide, over 60 countries have implemented a renewable energy policy and it is fair to say that the WFC has contributed significantly to this achievement. In 2012 alone the WFC has hosted and co-hosted over 20 parliamentary hearings, expert hearings, workshops, side events and roundtable discussions.

Oh how lovely.....they won a rigged contest ! Shameless to their rotten, modified core. What a slap in the face to those who truly deserved to win...

Now we find out their crap doesn't even yield more food.....obscene......next year no one with any integrity should participate, and rename it the "The Destroy Food Prize"......

Yes, no more yeild, and the cost of GMO seeds compared to non GMO,
along with the cost of all of the Round Up toxic pesticide which is damaging
the soil, so more chemical fertilizers are needed! Its a profit sham.

Sold up a creek without a paddle, no wonder they have hired
Blackwater to infiltrate social media to try and squash public opinion,
thats all they have left, a phony front!

Yes, would love love to be a fly on the wall when it came to the directives
that Monsanto gives its cyber army. Facebook (yeah I am not a fan) is
hiding posts against Monsanto and GMO food linked to Autism,
they must really take our voices as a threat to the future of GMO.

Well, good then, finally we are heard.

We dont want GMO!

Thanks for your comments.

Make up their own boards to win their rigged contests - just like obozo and al gore winning the "nobel peace prize?"

Just as an aside, the first prize was given over 25 years ago,the prize was not founded by Monsanto, Monsanto was not the first sponsor, Monsanto was not the second sponsor after the first withdrew. Monsanto is a sponsor now, along with about 60 other people and groups (I didn't count them, check the sponsor page). The guy running the prize originally, and his son now, weren't connected to food, they're the family behind Ruan Trucking, without a connection to Monsanto.

Soap bubble conspiracy.

3rd Attempt?

According to their website:

The World Future Council (WFC) consists of up to 50 respected personalities from all five continents. They represent governments, parliaments, the arts, civil society, academia and the business world. Together they form a voice for the rights of future generations. You can find the biographies of all Councillors as well as Honorary Councillors here.

www.worldfuturecouncil.org...

I don't know if "Honorary Councillors" are included in this list, but 81 would make up for quite a lot of them or a falsehood.
