That's certainly true and is sage advice, however, to be fair, I'm dubious of the notion that it was our meager welfare programs that caused the breach in the hull.

I never assigned blame for the "iceberg" on entitlement programs.

At this point, the "shape" of the iceberg is moot. The cause of the "iceberg" irrelevant. The creation of the "iceberg" a non-issue.

We are sinking.

Now we can build our own rafts or look to the Titanic and see whom "they" decide to save.

Yeah, the country is going down the crapper. And it is no wonder, as there are people here with your train of thought. This idea that to be a civilized nation, that the govt steals from some to give to others is just mind boggling. gift theft has nothing to do with a civilized culture or society. That just means there are more people receiving the Govt goodies then there are people having it stolen from them.

If I walk over to my rich neighbors house, and steal their car, because my car is crap, I get arrested.
When the Govt steals money from my paycheck because a "poor" person wants it, that is a civilized society.

I say survival of the fittest! I think thats what this world needs, a chance for the weak members of the herd to be weeded out and for the corrupt slime at the top to face the consequences of pushing their tyrannical agendas. I'm sick of these bankers and corporations and politicians that hide behind lawyers and body guards and police.

It's time for bigger ideas than central govt. and time to get rid of social/tax systems where only those at the top and at the bottom reap the rewards.

Well, we agree on on thing college is a scam. No even more so because in order to get in, the kids need to take a loan out from the Govt to get in.

I have college credits for 3 degrees. But, I have not finished the per-requisites. Sorry, but I am not going to sit through English and under water basket weaving for a piece of paper.

I am self taught in just about everything I do.

They are putting people in prison in Greece for nonpayment of taxes. Why should half the US pay zero taxes because they are poor and on food stamps but the other half get stuck with paying the welfare?

They dont get it and out of fear they worship big govt because they think people cant survive without luxurys like TV and phones and cars. They need big govt to protect them and will give up even the most basic of rights (self-defense) to get that false sense of security that big govt gives them.

I don't think you really understand what's coming. Look to Greece to see the process. They overspent on socialism and govt programs and when they couldn't pay up. the IMF and the European Union came and said we will bail you out, but you have to crack down on people to make them pay tax. So they devise legislation that forces people to pay the tax bill and those who cannot will be jailed.
This is what is really happening.
So you might want to be careful what you wish for, because some day the whole tax burden may fall on you and you won't be able to afford it.

If it happens I am ready to help anyone who needs it. I have not prepped but I am hands down the best there is(IMHO) when it comes to making things work. There is no reason to turn your back on someone in need. Our society has fooled most that they can be completely self sufficient. It will take strong, open, trusting, community to survive a collapse. I am not sure anyone is truly relishing the possibility.

People have been brainwashed into greed and hate. We are born to the earth and no one has a right to tell me how i can't live in nature. If i want to walk into the bush and build a hut near a river and relax, who am i hurting, no-one but it illegal most of the world. If you want to take my birth right to live away then compensate according and don't call me a bludger. I'm not asking for any luxuries. So i am forced by the government out of the bush into the city, and forced to work for food and housing, otherwise i'd die. THATS SLAVERY of the 20th century. What would happen if i rounded up a whole species of animal and allowed no food and shelter unless i they do a job i want done, what are we people?? What are we regarded as??

As opposed to being a drain on society? I live in a county where those same drains on society outnumber those of us that work by 3 to 1 atleast! I work two jobs and work about 70 hours a week. My wife works 40 hours a week. I rarely see my wife and kids and still struggle every single month to survive while those same drains on society you speak of sit on their asses all month, collect a free check, have their rent paid in full by H.U.D., are well fed thanks to foodstamps, and walk around in $130 shoes...all provided by people like me, my wife, and every other working person in this country so excuse me if I give a Sh!@ less about them!

Because there was once a time when everyone pulled their weight and those that didn't perished. If you're injured or the provider for the family dies or becomes unable to work then the community stepped up and helped them out while they got through that hard time, not for the rest of their freakin lives. Heartlessness? I don't see it as that. I see it as a necessity to happen so those of us that actually do something to contribute to a "civilized" society can actually have a prosperous one.

I don't think in all my years at ATS I've ever preached for a dog eat dog society but you can damn well believe I pray for it everyday.

Peace is something so hard to achieve and instead of trying to reach that peace.. people go back to what they know best, their primal instinct.... 'destruction'.

Nobody is ready, yet they want it to happen. I wish there was a real way to bring peace. But you see.. it's a pipe dream. Only real peace that exists is inside of our minds. Even then.. some are tormented.

Since I've come to know about the natural laws of the universe, I learned that it's pretty much a stalemate. All things can't become one at the same time. It just can't, not here. When you dine in happiness, someone out there is drowning in despair because of it. Everybody can't be happy at the same time. Isn't that what peace is? If everybody was happy at the same time even at one point in history, then it would have never ended.

Yet, here we are.

In fact, you ever wondered? Was there peace before so called creation? What if that consciousness, that Big Bang that started it all.. that 'something' out of nothing, that spirit that moved... was the harbinger of destruction? The end of true peace?

The irony of this thread is that the author is likely the one who is least prepared and this thread is still going on. Its not rocket science. The welfare state will run out of money or just get cut off thats what it was designed to do, but more importantly it was designed to bankrupt Americans who have earned their wealth and dry up the money to be spent by those who don't prepare....Yes the folks on welfare who buy flat screens and michael jordans and buy nice cars they cant afford and lobsters and steaks with their welfare.... Those are the people who don't prepare.... those are the people who we are preparing to defend ourselves against because we know that they shortsightedness is going to hit them like a freight train and they are the criminal element we are preparing to defend ourselves against.

I have had a few unlucky years and my income is ridiculously shameful but I still manage to get buy and when I have a few bucks to spare I prep. I buy sealed food, ammo, shelter, and whatever items I may be lacking. Because I see the writing on the wall.

And yes OP many of us do train for first aid, survival, weaponry etc... Thats because we prepare....thats because we see the writing on the wall and we've prepared.

This whole conversation is pointless OP. Your time will come soon enough.

But hey, instead of complaining about people who prep, why not make some preps for yourself? Otherwise what are you on here about?

Yes, this kind of government encroachment has been going on since the settlers first went to North America.

What I find sadly fascinating is how people are clinging to health, education, and other reasons on why government handouts are necessary. Like people would depend on their family.

Whatever happened to asking a relative for help?

In this country there is no such thing as welfare, and where I live the family and community are still strong. People don't ask the government for help because the government won't help, and they would rather rob their natural resources with the promise of jobs and money.

So when they need help, they don't go to the government, they go to their family... And the family does whatever it can to help in any way.

Sorry, but I don't get the point of this thread. What exactly is "dog eat dog"? You need to be very specific in what you mean, because the definition could be different to everyone.

Do you mean to say that if we want to protect our borders then we want an uncivilized society? Are you saying that speaking out against the taxing of working people to give it to people who refuse to take responsibility for themselves is "dog eat dog"? Or if I want tax cuts because the government is squandering away our tax dollars on corporate welfare, that makes me one of "them"? To someone, one or all of these are "dog eat dog".

The reason that the overwhelming response has been positive to your OP is that everyone has a different definition of "dog eat dog", and they are not it!

I don't want a dog eat dog world, nor does anyone else, unless maybe your definition is different than mine.

Doomsday preppers was a BS show, and all of those people look like morons. Most of the people and threads I've run across are people who care about the truth, society, and the future of the world. Things are going downhill for sure, and in my opinion its always been a "dog eat dog world".
