Wood doesn't have to be that ancient to absorb water and show a colour difference, especially if sitting directly in harsh sun every day.
I used to refinish my dads deck about every year or two, usually when I started noticing a significant colour difference when wet, generally I'd start
noticing the weathering after about 9 months.
That looks like a wet red-wood dock to me.
