Spoiled brat Penelope Soto flips out a judge and is shocked to be sent to jail for a month for contempt of court.

Soto laughed when the judge asked if she had consumed any drugs in the last 24 hours and then said "adios" after he set her bail at $5,000.

She stopped laughing when he asked her to return and raised the bond to $10,000.

"Are you serious?" Soto asked. The judge replied, "I am serious. Adios."

At that point, Soto apparently gave the judge the finger and shouted an expletive at him.

He then asked Soto point blank, "Did you say 'f**k me'?"

When she said she did, he found her in criminal contempt of court and sentenced her to 30 days in a county jail.

She got serious pretty quickly when he sent her down.

Awesome job, judge!

Bratty children and cop-haters on this site, take note. You can have a problem with the system all you want, but you pull this type of approach, you're getting the maximum penalty.

So it's been ruled that flipping of a cop is constitutionally protected freedom of expression. So hows flipping off a judge any different? Double standards?

Just a young girl that hasn't been brainwashed enough to give him the respect that he doesn't deserve.

So you'd rather she keeps up her lifestyle of Xanax bars and acting out to any authority? No, I don't like your world.

More like a young girl who hasn't been brought up to respect other people or herself.

The judge did the right thing and it wiped the smirk right off of her spoiled little face.

While i agree, she over stepped the bounds, i also think the
judge was wrong as well. Doubling the fine just because she
said "adios" is a bit extreme.
I am kind of torn in this one. While i support the system and think
a level of respect should be shown. I think judges think they are
more than they should be. They get that god like complex and it goes
to their heads.
After all, they work for us, not the other way around. There should be some
respect going both ways.

He's no God given authority to judge anyone. What makes him better? he's just a part of the corporate machine. The quicker we stop giving our authority away to this scum the better.

The judge is of Latino descent. Saying "Adios" was disrespectful and unnecessary.

I don`t understand why he raised her bail from $5,000 to $10,000.
The amount of bail is supposed to be determined based on the probability that the person won`t show up for the trial. How did saying adios to the judge increase the probability that she wouldn`t show up for the trial?

I think the judge just didn`t like her attitude and he was improperly using his authority to set the amount of bail.
of course she was really stupid and ignorant for doing what she did, in a court room the judge is god he can do whatever he wants so it`s best not to piss him off

Judges clearly do tend to suffer from a god complex.

Yet there was none from the spoiled young women.

She stopped smirking pretty fast though. Perhaps she leaned a lesson from it?

You should respect everybody until proven otherwise.
This young non brainwashed girl was not brainwashed because she doesn't have a brain.
It's the brat culture
IF you reply to this I say

Whatever

I dunno about this case, but if you could see what passes for a "judge" these days, you might not be so quick to judge her. Judges are caught masturbating, sleeping, making up the law as they go and more. Much more.

We really have fallen a long, long way.

Yeah, I'm torn on this as well. Not that she didn't deserve to be punished, but putting her in jail with other criminals may only help her to be a better criminal. I wish he could have been more creative with his punishment. Heck, he could have made her stand outside on a busy street corner, every day for a month, holding a sign that says, "I am a rude spoiled brat"

That's considered cruel and unusual punishment.

The fines imposed by the judge fall within the maximum penalties for her charges. The additional charge of contempt will have a separate court date, but if she's smart, she'll plead guilty and probably get the contempt dropped.

So he doesn't like her attitude and raise's her fine by $5000, is having an attitude a crime? By what authority? I would have been pissed as well!

Having an attitude in a court room while being the accused can constitute and offense if it amounts to disrespect towards the court.

She wasn't just disrespectful, she was stupid. She got what she deserved.
