The Pledge of Allegiance is Brainwashing

Americans need to stop lying to themselves. The pledge is creepy statist brainwashing. Practically forcing 5-14 year olds to chant some statist mantra everyday all while holding their heart is incredibly weird. It's something North Korea would do.

I stopped saying it in the 8 grade when I finally came to my senses and started thinking "why the hell am I pledging allegiance to a country who's actions I don't agree with? Plus I don't even believe in God". I felt like a social outcast when I didn't stand and say it with everyone else, but I didn't care. One teacher even yelled at me....again, did not care. A lot of kids would though... and say it even if they felt uncomfortable.

But this was of course before I could realize the big picture of it.

It's gotten more statist over the years as you can see. They had to make sure they put the country's name in there. Then sprinkle God in to secure the religious... Even though Jesus wouldn't want you pledging allegiance to a state....But that's a whole nother debate.

It's funny that the right wing (who seems to be the most brainwashed into "patriotism") love the pledge..but the guy who wrote it (Francis Bellamy) was an avid socialist.

Agreed, I stopped in 8th grade, and only just stood up for the pledge to avoid getting yelled at by the teacher.

I find it ironic that we (American Citizens) rail against countries where "brainwashing" is common, yet we do it all the time.

Yup. I live in the USA.... Why would I move out because I don't agree with forcing children to say a brainwashing statist pledge?

Yeah, that's a good point. You can't hurl a brickbat without hitting one of those "my country right or wrong" patriots--or should I say "patriots"--we've turned out in the last few decades. I've even run into a few of them on ATS.

But at least some of them are starting to wake up now....

Forcing children to chant a statist mantra every single school day has nothing to do with being proud of your country. The two things are completely unrelated. Your statement makes no sense.

Five year olds giving a pledge of allegiance to the government is creepy. If you think it isn't...then something is wrong.....

I'll tell you something wrong with it - it's completely illogical. You didn't choose the nation you were born in. Pride should be reserved for the things you actually chose.

No one is forced to do it, you even admitted it yourself saying you sat out.

Just because you're unpatriotic doesn't mean you have to ruin the pledge for everyone. Some people like to say it because maybe their family has spent years working/sacrificing to get us where we are now. You do know that America is a Christian nation don't you, hence the "Under God" part.

And yeah, my school did stop us from doing it due to parents complaining, much like you'd be if you were a parent. So don't come off as a sarcastic know-it-all.

I blindly did it every single school day from 4 years old to 14, this was before I realized what I was doing. The teacher instructs the small children to say the pledge, you have no clue to NOT do it. Children are easily manipulated if you haven't noticed.

Then when I cam to the mental awareness to stop saying it, I still heard it every single day. I was also forced to stand up while everyone else said it around me.

There was no escaping the pledge

No it isn't. The USA is a republic, not a theocracy. The government is prohibited form endorsing any religion, read the constitution.

The pledge has not been around since the beginning of the country, read the OP, it says the start date, which is 1892.

And um, the country is turning due to corporations running our government, which has been going on for decades now. Citizens united anyone......
