abcnews.go.com

The 70-year-old girls' basketball coach of a Detroit high school shot two teenage attackers who tried to rob him as he was escorting two players to their cars, police said.

The coach was allegedly approached by two men who brandished a gun at him as he was walking two players to their cars near Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School Friday night, ABC's Detroit affiliate WXYZ-TV reported.

Hi ATS!!! This story has touched my heart...

Some stories on ATS regarding animals, technology, and good deeds get the heart felt *wow how touching*...

Well these type of stories get me all tender...

This high school teacher took no shiz as these gang hood wanabe's came to attack him...

He took care of business and EVERY citizen should be armed for these very reasons...
One of the attackers died from the shooting, while the other was rushed to the hospital, WXYZ reported.

Both of the coach's alleged attackers attended Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School, but one of the students had recently been expelled and was not allowed to be on school grounds, WXYZ reported.

This story has made me feel great to be an American.

AMERICA HELL YES!!

This is horrible news. A teenager is dead. A sign of the times we live in. All is not well, especially in Detroit.

How is this heartwarming or touching when someone young died out of the incident? Granted yes, the person who died was the aggressor, but either way any cop or any person with human dignity will tell you having to actually take someone's life to protect yourself is not a joyful occasion.

The coach still has to live with the fact that he took someone's life. Whether or not it was justified or it could have been him dead if he did not do what he did.

Most likely the aggressors were confused punks who thought being "bad" and robbing people was a good idea. Who knows if they were even prepared to fire the gun... Rather just using it as an extension of their ego.

It serves them right in many respects. At the same time, does this mean that more of their misguided counter parts are going to get trigger happy after hearing of stories like these? No matter what, when things like this are happening at all it speaks volumes of problems young people have trying to adapt to society and live a pro-social lifestyle.

In the end, the one who survived just got the best life lesson one could deliver to low lifes like that...

It is just what happened. But it still doesn't mean we should be throwing parties over the news...

THE HORROR THE HORROR!!!

I am pro gun ownership but I don't celebrate death. It is a shame our countries criminals choose to use guns and force our hand.

That said it does prove just how necessary they are in the US.

Also, I will never visit Chicago. It is the land of barbarians.

It is pretty sad when you actually need to carry a gun to actually defend yourself.

Something must change to stop the carnage.

I don't know if you have ever killed anyone, but you're pretty damn happy he is the one choking on his blood and not you.

They obviously thought a 70 year old was easy prey.

Can't say I feel sorry for them...

That's not really relevant.

If you pulled it on a cop they would have done the same thing.

human nature.

it is arrogant to assume that all things just need our enlightened intervention to be made better and nicer.

This is the way of things. We are animals with woven clothing. We need to change the human condition before we try and put anyone in danger by disarming them.

When SOCIAL problems are solved, the rest will follow. If you disarm the people, you only take away their ability to protect themselves from those you can not disarm.

We need to put food and books in the hands you can not disarm....and most importantly a purpose....all else will follow.

I am speaking in a larger context that includes all of society and the state of society. Since articles like this are getting pressed merely because there is a national gun debate going on, I analyze the situation based on everything that plays into this story,

Having seen enough death by gunshot to last me a lifetime, i won't celebrate a teens death....however the fact they thought it ok to attack a 70 year old, the result gets at least a small thumbs up from me.

No the end was not ideal, but picture that guy being one of your grandparents.

Bet you'd not think twice about the old guys reaction then?

This is why the anti gunners have a problem with most gun owners...the blood thirsty ones.

Why are these the only fools that are vocal when comes to gun ownership.

I am against guns and the blood thirsty ones are the reason. Maybe if the rational gun owners would have spoken up more...I wouldn`t have such an issue with guns.

Hard to imagine they let people like the OP have guns.

I think it is high time that we make on the job
injury and even disability or death an employment
risk for career criminals.
