Beyond the rhetoric or socialism communism etc I am torn.
FDR had a good idea.
When multi national corporations have wealth greater than many countries
I cannot help but think maybe its time to reign them in a bit.

Huge corporations run the world.
They decided to take jobs from A and move them to B.
Huge corporations are the ultimate globalists.
The decide if we attack Iraq, Afghanistan etc
Huge corporations modified your food at the table
They also decided that you need to bail out other huge corporations
to the tune of trillions in QE.
The call for equal rights between men and women in the USA was funded by corporations.
Not because they love the idea, they love the result.
The result was a lowering in wages in real dollar terms so that a 1 bread winner family could not maintain
that lifestyle-and now 2 are the norm, who combined make less than the one wage earner of years back.

These same corps who run the country, own damn near everything, and have pucked up the America I know and love are carpet baggers with no loyalty to employee, country,or citizenship.

So Obama wants to make them pay us more for a job.He wants schools to be better....all of these reek of socialism to you.

Well,I have seen socialism.I have seen fascism. I like neither.
But when fellow Americans are raped and fried by outsourcing, I see that run away capitalism must be held in check.

First law he should pass-if you company moves a factory overseas from the USA---it can no longer sell products in the USA.Draconian, maybe even illegal based on WTO rules etc....Bur thats the killer.
None of these trade orgs exist for your or my benefit. They exist for the corporate carpet baggers.

We need an addition to the constitution. Nothing short of that will have the legal framework to control corporate greed and power..If corporations are free men per the constitution, the control of the areas they affect must have the strenght of an amendment otherwise lawyers will hide and slide, and the corps will win again.

I was merely pointing out that some people feel the need to blame Obama for anything they can, rational or not.

I agree that some people do do that, and it works like that on both sides. I had a conversation (if you can call it that) with an avid Obama supporter who claimed that it is the House who has stopped us from gaining immense prosperity over the last four years. And this whole financial fiasco is Bush's fault as he was giving everyone money for houses even if they couldn't afford it.

How about:

Many millions of people hold conspiracy theories; they believe that powerful people have worked together in order to withhold the truth about some important practice or some terrible event. A recent example is the belief, widespread in some parts of the world, that the attacks of 9/11 were carried out not by Al Qaeda, but by Israel or the United States. Those who subscribe to conspiracy theories may create serious risks, including risks of violence, and the existence of such theories raises significant challenges for policy and law. The first challenge is to understand the mechanisms by which conspiracy theories prosper; the second challenge is to understand how such theories might be undermined. Such theories typically spread as a result of identifiable cognitive blunders, operating in conjunction with informational and reputational influences. A distinctive feature of conspiracy theories is their self-sealing quality. Conspiracy theorists are not likely to be persuaded by an attempt to dispel their theories; they may even characterize that very attempt as further proof of the conspiracy. Because those who hold conspiracy theories typically suffer from a crippled epistemology, in accordance with which it is rational to hold such theories, the best response consists in cognitive infiltration of extremist groups. Various policy dilemmas, such as the question whether it is better for government to rebut conspiracy theories or to ignore them, are explored in this light.

Cass Sunstein ladies and gentlemen!
Ummm....thats really quaint and might be applicable........IF..........even MOST frequenters of ATS were conspiracy theorists...However, the vast majority of those that post in the major topic threads are simply using the site as an entertainment participation vehicle. It's almost like a video game, or a fencing match...deflect and riposte......nothing more. Although there are certainly the "conspiracy" threads that are featured on this site and ATS developed into the major clearing house for such......ATS has morphed into a member generated breaking news site and that category my friend is where most of the action takes place. Wether through intent or simply because the MSM cannot be trusted to perform due diligence or even journalism/reporting without bias, this is what we have.
How many of you truly come here for the "three heads are better than one" reptilian's are gonna eat your face threads? Now they may be funny or fun, but the real meat of ATS is current events and geopolicy. It's no longer conspiracy when the moves are so blatently in your face now is it?

tell me, what's so bad living in a SOCIETY and employing SOCIAL-ISM? Are we not social? Maybe you should study the real world and socialist countries like the poor, desperate, and completely depressed French? Do you see any protests from an evil empire of Socialist Frenchmen? No... Do you see an oppression, violence, or an "anonymous" presence in that country? No...

So, what's so terrible about Socialism? Oh yeah, no ruling elite to control the masses with capitalism. Yes, this is terribly scary for many greedy people who just can't get enough; who are lower thinking beings incapable of the very scary notion of homeostatic behavior in SOCIAL situations where one must live peacefully, and abundantly in SOCIETIES.

Does anyone really study, or just see buzz words and think "OH NO! Evil is upon us, a black man, a socialist, and they're trying to destroy a 300 year old document that does NOT apply in the 21st Century written by slave owners that wanted to get out of paying their taxes!. Seriously folks, apply a little left brain, right brain activity. Don't be so frequency dominant, put down the television, and step away from the propaganda machine with your EYES WIDE SHUT. YouSir, have a bit of reason; thank you. UFO and BIGFOOT are not really what people, aware of situations in our world are talking about as sentient beings in the current global climate.

Those are fun, interesting topics to draw in a crowd of people, sentient beings, who want answers to questions. I am pretty sure that when people are killing to keep from starving in a world with very real technology suppression as old as even Nikola Tesla, we want to know why.

The old are dying out, the families of psychopathes that view us, children of Good, as nothing more than dumb cattle breeding for their work purposes, we are fast becoming aware of all things hidden. They DID NOT forsee the internet.

We ARE disseminating all data in LARGE amounts.

They have bullets, we have underground scientists who did not fall for the ego-based university scheme to take us, to mold us and give us cash and prizes or sex and fame.

Believe that.

What started off as what you may believe it to be, is now a vehicle for much more than laughter at upright apes pointing to the sky in wonder.

enemies are indeed the blind, the ignorant, the easily swayed, and controlled; make friends with them to understand them, understand them to teach them, teach them to free them, free them to love them, loving them is loving your self. KNOW THYSELF

Trying to have his cake and eat it too, no one can do that, no one

He plays a nice guy, then he does all the things Bush did with wars and spending.

Then he tries again to be a nice guy.

Yes! Do you really want to use France as an example of what you think America should be?

Well, let’s take a look.

And why were they rioting in France? That’s right! Because the government ran out of money to keep feeding the socialist machine so austerity measures were required to stay afloat. All across the EU countries are running out of money. And the crybaby socialists were crying about not getting their handouts and free kool aid.

All across the European Union, strikes, demonstrations, and riots broke out to protest the austerity measures that are plaguing many nations.

Spain, Portugal, Belgium, France, Italy, and Greece were among the 23 countries participating in the anti-austerity protests. Some remained peaceful, but many turned violent.

First of all it doesn’t work. Secondly, eventually you run out of other people’s money (hence the austerity measures) and then everyone is broke.

Please don't talk to me about people "not studying" as you promote a system that's never worked. You really are making yourself look silly. The most telling part of your post is when you referred to the constitution as "a 300 year old document that does NOT apply in the 21st Century". That says it all!! Move to another country if you don't like the constitution....and take Obama with you!

By the way, here is Sunstein’s NEW BOOK. I’m sure you’d enjoy it!

I have to agree and I think that is the single hardest thing about debating things regarding Obama with anyone today. It's SO difficult for people (outside this site, perhaps) to believe their President would lie and outright lie to everyone's face while fully intending to do 100% opposite his own words ...while actually speaking them.

He's not the first dishonest man to sit in the chair, to be sure. Plenty have warmed it before his tail got there. What's different is how blatant and open it is. Audacious is the word, isn't it? It's the pure audacity of the level of deception that is SO hard to counter.

It leaves people ...good intelligent people, I must say...with only two choices left to face. Either the people saying this about him are 100% wrong or everything we've all learned and been taught from Birth about our nation and it's system of choosing leaders is wrong ...perhaps has been for a long time? Perhaps always has been.

I can't help but think that's just too much to face for the shattering of very comfortable and necessary illusions so many hold onto, despite so much building evidence. Heck...it hasn't been an easy place to come to myself.

The intention behind our union has been lost on the greed of radicals. I don’t think the states should take part in this union anymore if the fed isn’t going to adhere to our founding principles. This is the USA not the USSA.

I told the truth, you are the one spinning in circles. the Supreme court ruled against the unconstitutional spending.

No, I'm putting that statement in context. They later say that the government has the right to spend under the general welfare clause. Notice how the part you quoted has no mention of the general welfare clause? It's because the spending was ruled unconstitutional for a different reason, but they confirmed the general welfare interpretation in addition to that ruling.

Here are the highlights of what FDR proposed:

*The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation.

*The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation.

*The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living.

*The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad.

*The right of every family to a decent home.

*The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health.

*The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident and unemployment.

*The right to a good education.

Oh the horror the horror!

Care to elaborate more as to why exactly any of Roosevelt's proposals would be bad?

In fact maybe you could take each point step by step and detail to us why you think this is fundamentally evil and wrong?

That second bill of rights would be horrible.

*The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation.

Unless those industries are owned and run by the state then this cannot be accomplished without taking away a business owners right to determine who and how many people he hires. All this really does is cement in a peon class.

*The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation.

Again, this could only apply to employment by the state. If a business could not afford to pay all those people "enough" then it could not be accomplished without bankrupting businesses.
If business were forced to pay people more than they could afford the business would die
If that money that the business could not afford came from taxes it would tax the business to the point where it was no longer solvent.

*The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living.

So to make a profit he has to charge more, but he would have to hire people who now have a "right" to work for him. So it drives the cost of his goods up so he has to charge more. Then the workers can't afford the food because it costs so much and the farmer has to charge more. On and on we go.

*The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad.

If you make a product that is so good that you put the competition out of business- you lose that right because you are now a "monopoly".

*The right of every family to a decent home.

Feelgood nonsense. think about it.

*The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health.

We already have that, if we didn't then poor people would not be able to go to the emergency room.

*The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident and unemployment.

More feel good nonsense.

*The right to a good education.

Education is already mandatory for children.
